A thing I noticed whilst replaying GTA IV

In some missions during GTA IV you have these car chases and other stuff. Now, what I notice a lot is that the vehicles you chase are always kinda scripted and robotic. They can't collide, they super speed up when you get too close and they simply can't be stopped. And if you chase bikers they sometimes take ages to kill when you shoot them and you also can't hit them off their bikes with a collision...

This kinda sucks. I want every person to have the same things as everyone else. Peds, police, mission people and even important characters! I want to be able to kill people at any time whenever I want.

I also am glad that they confirmed that the first part of the 2nd GTA V trailer was gameplay and not cutscene at all. Now we actually have (mission) people in the game during free roam and not only during cutscenes. It was so lame seeing Roman or other mission people disappear right after the last cutscene in a mission ending. Like they disappeared forever. |:[

Anyone agree?

Oh my good god. f*ck scripted chases up the ass with a running lawn mower! Hell yeah I want to be able to stop the guy early and kill his ass. I mean, a game like COD being scripted is one thing, since it basically makes it's living off of set pieces, but GTA is a sandbox game. That means non-scripted. Improvised. Unprepared. Extemporaneous (Yes that word exists). Dynamic.

Not only that, but please no more missions that introduce a game mechanic that you never use again. Like that truck scripted to drop barrels? Why doesn't that happen in free roam? And what about being able to hang onto the sides of trucks? Why was that also mission exclusive? I mean, rockstar, you do know what kind of game you're making right? Hell, you practically brought the genre into the spotlight. So why all of this scripted crap?

Yeah, I hate scripted chases. I especially hate it when you fail a couple of times and you have to watch the exact same thing happen every time.

This has been talked about alot.

I think the scripted chases are cool in the sense that certain on road events happen. But I hate the rubber band affect. It sucks when you waste all your ammo on a car that you could never really destroy

You are confused, sir. That was a cutscene. What you are thinking of is the demo shown to the press, originally Michael is sitting down, stands up and goes inside. That is gameplay, but a different pool scene.

Edit: but yes, you will be able to see Michael's family around the house during gameplay (confirmed).

Oh..

Well I just hope that when I free roam important characters exist aswell. When I get in Micheal's house I expect to see the wife and children. Or sometimes see the wife shopping at an expensive store.

I'm glad about that. Now everything will feel less.. well I don't know how to say it but now it's like an actual world. Not a world where some characters only exist in cutscenes and missions.

I hated some missions in GTAIV in which you can't kill someone until some point. just cause you need to go over few scenes with trucks and some action... I get 1 feet away from him and shoot 30 bullets in his head. nothing. then after 30 secs i can kill him easily...

Yeah that one chase-the-biker scene was a pain in the ass. But aside from that, the kill-anyone-whenever-you-want aspect is a little dumb. After all, half the people would've killed Michelle just for lulz and not have had that surprise from her at the and of Snow Storm, making the plot less juicy. If you want to kill whoever whenever I suggest the Fallout series.

Even in Fallout it is impossible to kill everyone. This just kills immersion.

I know this could have a bad input on the story.. But then they should just find a way to make it hard to kill that person. I mean, Mafia bosses are well guarded. And Michelle might be guarded aswell since she was working for the FIB. Who says she couldn't handle herself? Maybe she had big ass guns to protect herself with.

I dunno. tounge.gif

I just don't want to see story characters disappear after a mission.

Snake Without a Tongue

I remember in the early previews for IV they mentioned the barrels falling from the back of the truck and confirmed (ha, ha) that it was not only possible to do this outside of missions, but you could actually use it to your advantage.

San Andreas had a few one off scripted events, but IV was full of that crap. Scripted chases that once that script ran out, the car would slow to a snail's pace, etc. Hated that.

I agree with the OP for the most part, however I guess a few times it is necessary to have a scripted drawn-out chase, like the Ivan chase across the rooftops early in the game, so you could chose whether he lived or died. For others though I hated the near impossibility to kill your target before a certain point, two that immediately come to mind is the chase invovling Anna Faustin's biker boyfriend, that chase was rather annoying, because although you supposedly could kill the biker before he joined up with his biker gang buddies, it felt damn near impossible, as he could corner at high speeds without slowing down, and multiple shots didnt seem to faze him. The other is the chase of "Oleg" you did in the 1st mission for the "U.L Paper" company where the driver/vehicule withstood a large array of bullets/damage until after he cuts thru that alleyway and your path is blocked by the fallen metal pipes and you have to go around, if the player can keep up with the target as he cuts through every back alley known to man( that part I loved) then the players efforts should be rewarded with the targets early death, not forced to continue the chase just so some forced event(s) can take place when the outcome is still gonna be the same(you kill the target). I also hated the scripted big trucks or cars they added that would get into your way, just keep the regular ped traffic flowing and make the escapee weave in and out of that, no added scripted vehicles.

I don't understand people complaining that you couldn't kill people earlier. I got that biker guy just when he was passing the roller coaster and I had to restart the Clarence Little mission cos I kept killing him too early (I wanted the execution kill).

Yeah, it took me forever to finish that mission where you get the diamonds back because I kept blowing up the car. Had no idea I was suppose to just follow them around until they crash.
