Master of San Andreas
Ok,I haven't seen a thread like this so I thought I might start one. What would you like to see in the next RDR? John was dead (I get confused between Jack and John so sorry if there is a mistake) So will it show Jack continuing for revenge? Or will it be a prequel? What features do you want in the game? For me I hope R* release it on PC.But I think this game might be next-gen. Edited February 16, 2013 by Master of San Andreas
Algonquin Assassin
Hmmm probably should use spoiler tags dude as not everyone has played it. I'm guessing the next Red Dead will be a spiritual successor like Redemption was to Revolver. Since Redemption showed the end of the Wild West and Revolver around the peak the next one should be in its early days say 1830-1850. I know it's crazy to think, but some people haven't played this amazing game. I imagine the next game will be a prequel (Red Dead Reckoning is the best title I've heard so far). It will probably follow in the tradition of GTA & have a new protagonist, although I'd be very happy if it was John Marston again. It will probably be another 3-4 years before we see it though. Edit: Hello Miamivicecity, do you come here often? I don't but I the V section has become a bit nutty since the delay announcement.

jamieleng
@Miamivicecity Tell me about it, moderating this place must be a breeze. I wish this part of the forum was a bit busier, then I'd visit more often. It would never happen but what if R* North & San Diego swapped franchises. Although they both work on each other's games anyway.
Typhus
I believe the game should focus on what Red Harlow did AFTER getting revenge. And mainly it should show the reality of someone the gamer considers a 'hero' turning into a broken, violent mess in love with his own legend. If John's story was one of Redemption, I would like to see a game about a man hurtling towards damnation. Basically, turn Red from a Clint Eastwood clone into a fully realised, well rounded character.

Yeah i'd like to see game take place further back in the Wild West era or even get a cowboys v indians storyline going, i liked that in Gun. If they gets this underwater cave exploration right in GTA V then i'd like to see this implemented in the next Red Dead, having lots of caves and mines to explore that can be tied to missions or side missions. Of course the ability to swim would add a lot of potential to do some good things. With Rockstar going with a game a year strategy, then we're looking at possibly a 3-4 year wait like Jamie said. GrandMaster Smith
For the next Red Dead I'm really hoping for a huge map, something similar to Skyrim in terms of sheer size. I want really large mountains to cross with heavily dense forests, split up by creeks and littered with mini waterwalls. Basically Tall Trees on steroids, along the lines of this- If the multiple protags works well in V it'd be cool to see a two protag system with a cowboy and a native American so they can tell both sides of the story in one game. I would love to have bows and spears in a R* game, maybe swords as well. I want it to be gritty too, in terms of how IV made LC and Niko's story so dark. Just a ruthless outlaw with no remorse- robbing banks, holding up trains, kidnapping civilians. But also have a story that keeps you drawn in the entire time through. Maybe tell the story of a kid coming over on the Oregon Trail and loses his entire family so in turn results to a life of crime to survive. One thing with RDR's story was that it felt really drawn out at times, there was very little variation in what actually made me feel motivated to do these tasks. If you're in a story of simply trying to survive it can bring up all sort of different opportunities for missions.. anything from finding food for the night to pulling a bank heist to make ends meet. Perhaps your family was murdered by a roaming Native American gang/tribe and you swear to take revenge on the leader to give it an overall end goal Anywho, I'm excited for the next installment lol
Piggsy pls
Maybe you'll play as escaped slave in the 1800's, like Django.
Secura
I'd like it if the next game in the series not only took place in early west (IE: the 1820's) but also went for a Native American protagonist. To see what the whole Manifest Destiny thing looked like from there perspectives would be interesting, especially if it was incorporated into a video game in some way or another. I'd also like to see the game adopt the Grand Theft Auto: V style of thinking in the sense that there'd be that whole multiple protagonist gameplay kind of element. Perhaps on one side you could control a Native American fighting for the lands freedom and on the other you could play as a rouge gunslinger (Landon Rickets anyone) who's neutral in the conflict between the two societies. Thirdly I think the game could do with more side missions from the start, for example the herding mechanic in Red Dead Redemption wasn't really put to the best use as it was mission specific and only seen two times despite the fact that there was a stat dedicated to in the games miscellaneous information. I'm seeing these side missions fitting a more Assassin's Creed III or Assassin's Creed II nature, perhaps you could build up a ranch or a small town with the money you were earning. It'd also be nice to see the construction of Salt Lake city, or perhaps the build up to its creation referenced by travelling through small back ally towns that had been occupied by Mormons and seeing fights brake out between the locals and the Mormons. Finally, I'd like to see a much, much more elaborate crime system. Proper train heists and robberies, let us blow up bridges and supports and rob trains, let's see missions that truly push the next gen consoles to the limit both in the sense of scale, but also the sense of detail beauty and options. A great example of this would've been if we could've in someway been involved with Reyes's assault on Sanchez, that would've been interesting to see, hundreds if not thousands of NPC's battling it out in a destructible city. Adding on the crime system idea would be the fact that by being bad you'd get a number of benefits, for example you could hire thugs to protect you, form gangs, take over towns and gain income from the towns that you'd freed from the law. Though those are just a few of the possible things that could be implemented into the next game, including but not limited to, ferry travel, an overhauled melee combat system, and of course a drastic improvement to the random event system so that they could turn into side quests rather than just short one off situations. Did I mention that I'm really pumped for this game, because I am. Oh and private trains, they're in every western film ever. I want one, that is all. Pyrrhic
Well at this point it will most likely be a next-gen game. So a map the size if, if not bigger than, Skyrim is certainly possible. Storyline and gameplay-wise, I'm not sure. I like Miami's idea of it being the early stages of the Wild West, however I liked how Redemption sort of showed the downfall of it and the introduction of newer technologies like the chain gun. Chunkyman
The problem with an early western game (1820's-1850's) is the firearms. Even by 1850, nearly all revolvers would be rare cap and ball cavalry guns (like the Colt Walker or Dragoon). Plus, cap and ball revolvers are horrendously slow to reload which would make combat boring if it had any amount of realism. You could get away with it though if the emphasis was on dueling instead of big shoot-fests (which would actually be kinda cool). Civil War era wouldn't be too bad for this, because at least the selection of cap and ball revolvers is really good. You have to get to the 1870's if you want the good stuff, because that's when metallic cartridges started being popular. Personally, I would like to have the game centered around the Indian Wars during the late 1800's. Lots of history to see, and has great potential for a story. For those unaware of all that gun talk, I have a picture of a cap and ball 1851 Colt Navy (Top) next to a 1873 Colt Single Action Army cartridge revolver (bottom). I agree that the next game will barley have any connections to Redemption. A story after Redemption wound't make sense because the old west was dying and Rockstar has already shown that. I would Love to see a game showing the rise of the Wild West with Indians/Outlaws/Gold Rush/Oregon Trail and the beginning of the Civil War.
