GrandMaster Smith
what about temperature conditions... so it gets cold... and rain to hail?snow? ice/froze... if its too cold car doesnt start... or car slids more then normal. If you're driving high in the mountains and it's snowy around it should definitely effect the traction of the tires on the road. Black ice makes you lose control, hitting a big puddle makes you hydro-plane.. stuff like that would really be interesting.

thebestgameever
Look at this. Puddles. And they're very realistic. The more i see this and other GTA V images, the more I wish GTA v is on/ported to next gen consoles so we can, hopefully, say good bye to terrible textures, foliage and say hello too good AA. The real coast guard
I loved the rain in GTAIV especially when it was dark it gave the city more character, more dangerous. RDR improved upon that with the drying effect but I don't think GTAV will have much of a dark tone to it at all so we will see more sun-showers instead of thunder storms at night. I have a feeling the water world will play a huge role and the dam from the screenshots will play a part at some point and have to be blown up to flood the city, and have something to do with an under water heist, I hope. kesta195
I dunno, maybe. We haven't seen any rain in the screenshots or trailers, so I'm not sure what to expect. I think we'll see puddles, though. I wouldn't have felt that way before I played RDR, but that game showed me that it was possible, so who knows? It was pretty great in RDR when a rain storm is over, and you're left with a partly cloudy sky, the sun glinting on the leftover puddles and wet mud. Very pretty. I kind of expect GTA V to take a similar approach to rain storms as RDR, in that most of the time the game will be clear and sunny, and hot, but there will occasionally be rain that lasts a day or more (much longer than the storms in GTA IV, which were kind of just off and on throughout a day), and then you don't see it again for a few days. Another thing while we're on RDR I liked how after a storm had left you can still see lightning in the far distance. It gave the idea of a storm front rather than just magically appearing and disappearing like in the GTA games. It would be cool if you could see a storm approaching in the distance. I love the whole storm experience in RDR -- the darkening skies, the puddles, the lightning and thunder and the long duration of the storm, and the lingering distant lightning, as you say, though I don't always notice that part. I hope the storms will be just as good in GTAV. Years ago when I was immersed in playing Vice City every night, I had occasion to fly to Melbourne Florida (maybe a hundred miles north of Miami). I walked out of the airport terminal to go to the rental car parking lot, and it was raining like crazy, coming down sideways at 45 degrees and great big drops splattering on the pavement. I immediately thought, holy sh*t, this looks just like Vice City! I agree, RDR has the best storm system of any game I have played. The thunder effects sound amazing, especially when wearing surround sound headphones. And I only noticed the other day that you can still see lightning in the clouds in the distance after a storm has passed. The only critisism I had with it was that there weren't any actual lightning bolts, just lightning that lit up the clouds. Would have been amazing to see lightning streaking across the sky from time to time. I think it is realistic to hope that we could have an equally good if not better storm system in V. Just like in Just Cause 2. You could even outrun the weather cuz there wasn't always a storm above the whole map.
zeepsoptattoo
Not sure it was already mentioned, but there will be realistic rain en water in gtav. Why do i think that? You can see it in max payne 3, 'chapter v' when you start in the wildernis next to that boat. Just walk around there and enjoy the scenery i is very beuatifull. Maybe it is not as good in gta v becausr max payne is linear... Like i said i didnt read all the pages maybe it is already mentioned... Dude, even car simulators don't have the "Car doesn't start if it's too cold" thing. I don't think GTA needs to go there. will its roughly the same deal as when you bash the car too much it doesnt start up [iv] just some extra stuff to make gaming experience harder. Except bashing the car up is something I did. It's something I am responsible for and something I can avoid. What happens if the entire map gets a huge blizzard huh? Then what do I do? I mean, as I said, even simulators don't go that far.
Paper Mario
I'd like it if puddles form like they do in RDR. And if there are big ones drive through them as fast a possible to wet pedestrians! XD They'd all be pissed and stuff at you!

My cat is such a wuss during real life lightning storms, always hides in the downstairs bathroom for whatever reason. When I had RDR on my surround sound and a lightning storm happened in the game, he went and hid in the bathroom. Sounded beautifully authentic. And also agreed on the lack of lightning bolts, I'm very interested to see how they've improved weather in the 3+ years since RDR. It seemed perfect at the time, but in hindsight I can see where it could use improvement, one being lightning bolts. AC3 had them and it was really cool. Plus the clouds in RDR moved, but never changed shape like real clouds. They just stayed in their current form and moved across the sky in a fixed, linear fashion. I noticed in the first GTA V trailer that the clouds actually change shapes, so clearly improvement has happened here. I'm a bit of a dynamic weather/natural environment dork in terms of video games (as long as its done well), so I can't wait to see what king of the minute details R* has built upon here since RDR. Ben73
I want to go through the desert on a horse with no name, it will be good to be out of the rain. In the desert, I will forget my name because there aint no one to give me pain. After rain I would love to get bogged in the country side easier. Plus flowing creeks which can wash you away if your car is inappropriate. Minor flash floods in the city would be cool sometimes. Gutters over flowing and driving past bus stops splashing and soaking everyone

On a technical level, this probably perfectly feasible. It would just be an animated texture that shows up on the side of streets and such to simulate the effect, rather than actual fluid dynamics. But it'd probably be somewhat time consuming to implement, as you'd had to make sure it's on every street and lines up correctly. So it's more of a matter if R* had actually thought of it and felt that from a developmental standpoint it would be worth it, rather than whether it's technically possible. Rockstar is all about the little details to immerse you into their worlds, so if any developer would go to these lengths, it is them. That's why no other open worlds suck me in like Rockstar's do. They put so much care and attention into the finer details that bring the city alive and hopelessly immerse you into such a believable world. Xaynt
One of the things I noticed in GTAIV is that when you drive a car in first person view while its raining, there's no rain shown pelting down on the hood of the car. Missed that. Edited April 18, 2013 by Xaynt
Gjosh
Lol, what if when your sprint down stairs and it is pouring rain you fall down the stairs? That would be quite cool.
gta5freemode4eva
Not sure if it would be realistic enough to flow through the gutters but I reckon we'll get the puddles like in RDR and they'll probably be improved. Would be awesome to see it flow and it is something I'll watch for. I really want a weather cheat too because I love the rain and I would be happy to chill and listen to it lol and it would be cool to put it on whenever, especially as LA is normally dry. Someday we'll get it so it comes from the sky, hits and runs down roofs into the gutters and along to the drains. Sounds odd but I find the weather really really adds to the atmosphere. Here's me raising a beer to chillin in the woods near a stream whilst its pelting it down with rain!!! I hope they get the sounds of the rain hitting different surfaces too. I also hope the sound of wind is spot on too. Come to think of it, R* are getting much closer to nature with this game so these are the things they gotta work towards and look out for. The storms in RDR were cool so I hope we get something like that and improved Just looking at the last post, sorry i'm going on a bit here, but I too hope that the rain makes surfaces behave differently. I know in GTA if it were raining then cars had less grip. This ofc was cool and I hope they get this right for the non-urban areas so the mud will get V muddy and maybe cars get stuck or bogged down if it is very bad, and they also get VERY dirty.
