KawakSallas
I was thinking, in rainy conditions during the game, would be possible to see water flowing through the gutters in the streets? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3sGETQoaRk Maybe to much realism for a game? From a technical point of view, it would be feasible?

Miss Darko
I dunno, maybe. We haven't seen any rain in the screenshots or trailers, so I'm not sure what to expect. I think we'll see puddles, though. I wouldn't have felt that way before I played RDR, but that game showed me that it was possible, so who knows? It was pretty great in RDR when a rain storm is over, and you're left with a partly cloudy sky, the sun glinting on the leftover puddles and wet mud. Very pretty. I kind of expect GTA V to take a similar approach to rain storms as RDR, in that most of the time the game will be clear and sunny, and hot, but there will occasionally be rain that lasts a day or more (much longer than the storms in GTA IV, which were kind of just off and on throughout a day), and then you don't see it again for a few days. On a technical level, this probably perfectly feasible. It would just be an animated texture that shows up on the side of streets and such to simulate the effect, rather than actual fluid dynamics. But it'd probably be somewhat time consuming to implement, as you'd had to make sure it's on every street and lines up correctly. So it's more of a matter if R* had actually thought of it and felt that from a developmental standpoint it would be worth it, rather than whether it's technically possible. goh13
It would be a nice effect... Maybe we could get some meteors rain too lol Well.......why not? You will have 3 articals on the GTA internet saying when the meteor shower will start. "GTA does not work in dates!" Of course it does not. The date will be of importance to one mission. Do that mission and after that, it will start. Since it is a one time thing, it is super easy to do.
DarrinPA
I'd like to see the water levels rise, enough to fill the LA water drains. I forgot what they're called exactly. AND I want to see water drops on the camera again like in Vice City.

Another thing while we're on RDR I liked how after a storm had left you can still see lightning in the far distance. It gave the idea of a storm front rather than just magically appearing and disappearing like in the GTA games. It would be cool if you could see a storm approaching in the distance. goh13
Anyone think there should be two kind of rain? 1- Normal rain: Will only create puddles after is it done and some lightning here and there. 2- Heavy rain: Normal rain + Will make aiming somewhat harder [ Wind + rain ] and driving cars will be harder, manily when taking turns. Again, should now be that big of a deal to do. I really do not care about it, I am just throwing ideas to get others hyped or something
36Chambers
Yeah, when it rains in LS is should rain hard. RDR has some fantastic rain effects but it can be improved. What I'm really hoping to be improved is the darkness at night. I don't know if it's a technical limitation or something but if it were to be genuinely dark at night (not as dark as real life), that would make for some pretty spectacular driving. They lack the skill of staying alive in the dark OR they hate the game being so dark, you can not even see. Normal, "non-hardcore", players will find this boring/hard/not fun. Could be fixed in the settings from R*’s part. Hardcore setting: Less lightning at night and bullets drop, for an examble.
ForumName
They should have dynamic rain puddles. not pretextured ones that were there all the time like in IV. Making (realistic)dynamic water physics is a very hard thing to do, maybe even impossible on this generation. Anyway, if they add water in drains it will probably just be a single texture that looks the same everywhere. I don't think something such as this would be too difficult although it just isn't worth the time that would have to be put into it.

In GTA IV it seemed too bright to me.

GrandMaster Smith
I think RDR did quite well with the dark nights. It felt Really dark when you were playing.. to me atleast. I liked how it made distant objects like campfires really stand out as well. With how well they did with flowing water in RDR in all the rivers I wouldn't be surprised to see this sort of thing in V. Rain was a big improvement from IV to RDR, so I only expect that big of a jump in V.

I love the whole storm experience in RDR -- the darkening skies, the puddles, the lightning and thunder and the long duration of the storm, and the lingering distant lightning, as you say, though I don't always notice that part. I hope the storms will be just as good in GTAV. Years ago when I was immersed in playing Vice City every night, I had occasion to fly to Melbourne Florida (maybe a hundred miles north of Miami). I walked out of the airport terminal to go to the rental car parking lot, and it was raining like crazy, coming down sideways at 45 degrees and great big drops splattering on the pavement. I immediately thought, holy sh*t, this looks just like Vice City!

rare.steak
Sure, why not. Of course it won't look great. Just look at Heavy Rain, that's a non sandbox environment and I think that's about as good as it gets on the PS3.

loony979
im all for it ,tho we have seen some water stuff in the trailers ,the river with the caravan & the 2 mountains on either side that had the plane go throw had a water fall. I think were up for a massive suprise when the game comes out not to mention the DAM screenshot that water level looks to be srsly high ,Blow the dam mission again ?? Miss Darko
In the first trailer, the black guy running from the cops steps in a puddle. Check it out Yeah. Well, I'm sure everyone who's seen the trailer is aware of that. I think there will be some puddles that are just always there, though. The dynamic puddles that form during rainstorms in RDR can be expected, I feel, but that particular scene doesn't look like it was just after a rain storm. I could be wrong, though. Miss Darko
^ I've always thought of that as more of an alternative to having the car end up blowing up every time. Sometimes it takes so much damage that it starts to burn and then explode, but other times it simply just breaks and you have to leave. Ya know, just for more variety in the experience.
