GTA 5 should have an apocalypse

Now, I'm pretty sure this HAS NOT been discussed before. But wouldn't it be cool if there was an earthquake or tsunami or some disaster happen in the city or something? Or maybe a you hear about a meteor on the radio for ages and then one actually hits the earth?

Anyone catch my drift? Discuss.....

EncryptedReality

It has been discussed, as seen here.

My opinion anyway is that we won't be getting it, it's too complex and especially when you take console hardware into account.

Also, it has come to my attention in general that the more people wait the more they expect V to be a simulation of real life which is just playing dumb.

Wow, so much ignorance in that statement.

If they would put an earthquake in GTA it would just be similar to the effects the Riots had in SA. Why wouldn't that be possible on consoles?

But i agree, it's unrealistic to expect something like that. I wouldn't mind seeing it though, could be very fun. But only to see the city in chaos and destruction... Crazy traffic, people freaking out etc.

GTAV already had an apocalypse. It's called Rockstar NYC's attempt at GTAV marketing. It was unbelievably destructive.

Though I may not want one In-game, May I remind you of Motorstorm Apocalypse? That game had Earthquakes fully happening as you raced. On PS3.

So u wanna tell me the point of this?

So its an random event and everyone dies? Game Over and u have to start from mission 1 again?

I dont see any point in such things....

Maybe floods where u cant drive on some streets but thats it...

Thats the same pointless stuff as this "being able to comit suicide" guy

So what if its unrealistic, GTA isn't a simulator.

I think he meant that at some point in the story something big happens, say an earthquake, and it will only be happening once but leave the city in destruction and chaos. From there you play further in a new setting, maybe the city will slowly get rebuild and back to normal. I don't think he meant to have earthquakes happening all the time.

So what if its unrealistic, GTA isn't a simulator.

For me, it's not so much about realism as it is about what works for the story. GTA V is going to be a crime game about bank robberies. That's the focus. It's not based on the tropes of disaster movies, it's based on the tropes of films like Heat and Reservoir Dogs. When you introduce a big natural disaster, suddenly you're introducing a conflict that has nothing to do with what's been established in the story, which likely has to do with other criminals and members of law enforcement. And now this significantly impacts the game world. I don't know, on a thematic level, it just doesn't make any sense.

In truth, it's not really unrealistic an idea at all. Natural disasters happen all the time, they're devastating, and they probably do impact career criminals just as they do everyone else. But in fiction, these types of conflicts simply belong in different genres, otherwise it feels out of place.

totally agree, that makes sense. I just dont understand where people get the idea of GTA being a simulator from.

I hope a development team like rocket creates some sort of DAYZ like mod for GTA. Then I wouldn't have to deal with sh*tty bugs and glitches and actually enjoy it.

yeah because gta sa city and gta v city are the exact same data wise. it would be really really complex for something that wouldn't even fit gta(and im not the guy who says this about everything either). what would the point of an apocalypse be? How could it fit into the story and why would the space it would require to do it(and time) make it worth it. explain to me that and i will listen. add to the fact that riots may do a little but a natural disaster would have to completely wreck havoc on the entire map making everything on the map(which people have doubts about already on space) have destroyed buildings, flood water, etc.

An apocalypse no, but riots would be and interesting approach... people marching on the streets because of teh current economy and they take the chance for a big heist, like in the Die Hard movies, where bombs are used as decoys while they rob the gold vaults. That would be possible and feat perfectly, in fact it could actually be one of the last missions.

@S1LV3R_W0LF

Only it does run the risk of feeling like a repeat of SA, which also had a riot in Los Santos near to the end of the game.
