Combat and Grappling system like Sleeping Dogs

More dynamic fighting is a must. I mean they were never big on it but I really do think it can add a huge life-span to the game.

You could have huge missions with only hand to hand combat. Guns shouldn't be introduced so quick either so we can have fun with some dynamic fighting. The fisty cuffs of RDR and GTA IV are pants. No two ways about it.

I actually enjoyed Sleeping Dogs a lot more than 5, and the combat was only a small fraction of the reasons why. I guess I can understand Rockstar not wanting to implement features from another game into their own (so good luck expecting a dramatic improvement in hand to hand and melee combat), but they should've at least kept the countless things in previous GTA games that worked. It's like they either get amnesia or just pay zero attention to the criticisms all over the internet each time they create a new one. Frustrating.

Not just that... If you ask me, Saints Row has a lot more to offer than GTA5. Singleplayer Coop, alot of ways to make money and a huge amount of mini games/vehicles/weapons and customization.

especially SR 1-3. SR4 is a bit too over the top for my taste.

Also the controlls are a lot better in SR. GTA has those R* typical sluggish controlls.

GTA has better Story and atmosphere, but when it comes to gamepeplay, there are other Open World Games which do it much better.

You must mean GTA has better story and atmosphere than SR, not Sleeping Dogs!
Well if/when I decide to branch out from SD again, I'll probably check out Saint's Row, figuring they don't have a bunch of torture mini-games or softcore porn in them, that is :p
BTW, I'm here on the forums because I love all the GTA games from 3 to VCS, in case you're wondering!

Sry, was a bit confusing from me. I meant other Open Worlds in general. I havent played Sleeping Dogs Story. Only Demo. Mechanics were better than in GTA5 imo. Shooting, Moving, FIghting especially. Much smoother and responsive

But I saw a few videos about features. Especially the ability to put people in the trunk and so on. Its just weird that rather small franchises do have so much more features than GTA. Even if they are that small.

I'm extremely disappointed about this. I'd rather have GTA IV's mele combat back. What on earth happened here? They claimed it was better but I cant see one way its better. No combos (unless you dodge 1st), you cant choose wether to punch or kick OR who you want to strike. I cant tell you how many times I am aiming towards one person and hit my friend or someone else close by. You also cant even block. Wtf? The KO punches look nice tho but damn that's it.

There is no more fighting aspect at all. Its one strike at a time hoping you land 1st or wait until they strike then dodge and do the same counter over and over. No skill in it period. Big let down for me. This has got to be fixed in the near future. I was really looking forward to this. I suggested a combat system awhile back but its not inline with the new system so here is a suggestion that goes with the current setup.

OK the 1st problem is choosing the strikes. As stated above you cant in V. Here is a way to make it possible that's in accordance with the current control scheme.

When squared off

Left Trigger - puts you in fight mode

Left Stick - flick in any direction to quick step, hold in any direction + strike to aim strikes at particular targets. For example, hold forward to attack the guy in front of me then hold back to attack the guy behind me.

X/Square - tap for quick punches, hold for strong punches (the longer the hold the more powerful the strike).

A/X - tap for quick kicks, hold for strong kicks.

B/Circle - tap to dodge, hold to block.

Right Trigger - tap to push enemies, hold to grab enemies or pick up grounded enemies.

When holding enemies

Left Stick - pulls, drags or guides enemies in different directions.

X/Square - tap for quick punches, hold for strong punches.

A/X - tap for knees to the body, hold for knees to the head.

B/Circle - tap to throw enemies, hold to pick them up and slam them.

Right Trigger - let go to release enemies.

Fight Stradegy

You can block quick strikes but not strong strikes. You can dodge strong strikes but not quick strikes. Basically you cant just sit back and block or dodge everything. You must choose the correct defense. Simple but challenging.

Also, counters need to be one free strike only not a combo. A person shouldnt get 3 free hits for dodging one punch. Now if I continue to punch and my opponent doesn't block then sure I should be able to combo but only the initial strike after the counter should be free.

This uses the same buttons as in V and would of course use the same animations. All that's really being changed is the inputs and a few new animations. I'm no game dev so I may be wrong but this sounds possible to impliment. Come on R*. Don't leave this hole in your game. Am I alone on this?

The only problem with this is that only trevor is able to have skills in combat arts. Thats one poblem i have with this 3 protagon system. Some features are getting disqualified by the personality of one ore two of the protagonists. And building a combat system for only one of the guys seems to be unrealisitc for R* to do.

nop can't imagine old men and a black guy fighting like a chinese

@ inero - They could just make it where each character has base moves that fit their character like Trevor having military type moves, franklin boxing and Michael nothing and you can go to one of the local gyms and learn more if you choose.

@ Reiji - Going with the idea above, cant imagine and old guy or black guy doing hinese moves? Don't train them.

It wasn't that good seriously. It got old fast. I was bored of it in the demo.

Gta v can be more enjoyable.

LOL. GTA 5 hand to hand enjoyable?? It's 2 buttons: counter and strike. not even punch or kick, since you press B and sometimes your character will throw a kick rather than punch..... even with the counters, there is ONE animation for a successful counter. ridiculous step backward from IV. At least in 4 there were 2 different punching options, ability to kick, and the counters/finishers were varied and looked good with Niko (the crisp kickboxing style) in V all 3 move and fight exactly the same. you think a 25 year old street hustler who grew up in L.A. is going to have the same fighting style as a middle aged Canadian psychopath from the midwest? come on rockstar

I got the feeling that R* ignored all those things to have more time creating this very detailled world.

The problem is, this world gets boring pretty quick when the mechanics dont work and the stuff you can do is pointless and boring.

Using an enemy as shield and drag him is the most simple thing to bring to the game.. it was already done in SR1 which was released before GTA4 iirc. Another thing is the possibility to tie up someone like in RDR and instead of putting them on a horse, you put them in the trunk.

I was so underwhelmed by GTA5 at release... not a single feature I wanted was in. And those features where obvious things to add. Like robbing peds by pointing at them with a gun. ( like in RDR )

Then this game is about money, a casino and horse track are in, but empty and not useable.

Also:

Why can you open money transporters with C4 but not ATMs???

Or rob likker stores and gas stations but not the barber shops, cloth stores, tatoo studios and so on?? ( i mean you can, but only in a weird way, by shooting the cashier from the street.

And I dont want to start with the smallest features, like being able to let the engine running when exiting a car. I have not a single idea why they changed this from GTA4.

It should be obvious that you keep the engine switched on before you rob a store. It takes ages sometimes, before the engine gets switched on again. I dont know how often I got shot in the car by police, because the engine took to long to start.

Aren't you worried you're going to use up all your truth-telling benefits?
