My problem is that as you can see its using less than 40% of system mem, video mem etc. which seems

to imply that my computer can easily handle much more than why the pathetic fps.

Also one of my friends has the same system and he's able to max out with 60+ fps

Well that's quite what you expect for a 670M, which is almost equivalent to the GTX 460 in terms of performance. Edited by PrometheusX

im sorry im a bit of a noob, but its showing about 1gb of 3gb vidmem is being used, then how can the graphics card be the problem

Exactly and i have 3 so i should get a decent fps

also, ive seen a guy get abt 60 fps on the exact same model as mine!!

Im sure sumthin is wrong here

Are you sure it's the exact same model? Also what resolution was he playing at?

Also once again, you're GPU is as [or maybe even slightly more] powerful as the GTX 460, so 30-40FPS is quite good.

No, your fps is about right for that hardware. It is the cpu that is holding you back, needs to be about 4Ghz to do 60fps. The cpu will ramp up a bit in Turbo mode, but the 3,4Ghz advertized will be a single core only. I don't believe the guy who said he got 60fps.

Also, you could turn down your settings quite a lot and lose next to nothing in picture quality. Turn night shadows off and view/detail distance to about 30/45.

GTA 4 is coded to use 3 cpu cores maximum, hence the benchmark 36% usage, that's about 3 in the 8 virtual cores of the i7 being fully used.

Hi i took yr advice and decreased the details etc to about 30 but the fps seem to remain constant inspite of that(28-30)

That is not too bad a speed to play GTA 4 anyway, many play at less fps quite happily.

It might be worth disabling a couple of cores, or turn off hyperthreading as shown here. It may make a difference.

The amount of video RAM does not constitute how powerful the card is overall. E.g. a GTX470 with only 1280MB of RAM is a lot more powerful than the GTX670M with 3GB of RAM. Very High shadows are for people with desktop graphics cards, like the normal GTX670 and above

Try these.

1. Commandline.txt into gta iv direvtory.

2. add the following to it.

-renderquality 0 -shadowdensity 0 -texturequality 0 -viewdistance 0 -detailquality 0 -novblank -norestrictions -width 640 -height 400 -minspecaudio -noprecache -availablevidmem 100.0 -forcer2vb -noswapdelay -stereo -framelimit 0 -disableimposters -framelockinwindow 1000 -usedirectinput -notimefix -minspecaudio -nomemrestrict -disableposteffects

3. Put it into your main gta iv directory.

4. Defrag your game directory / Disk Drive C:\..... D:\.....

5. Lower your resolution.

that commandline is complete nonsense, conflicting and non-existent parameters, options that you could disable yourself on the graphics menu, etc.

Isnt the 670m and sli card? i know a gtx 670 is... so is it the same on the mobile gpu? if so disable sli in the nvidia settings under this games profile... just a thought and sorry if im off base

Ha you call that high end? Thats like saying a Geforce 6600GT is a good graphics card for gaming

Laptops are normally not good at all for gaming

Gaming laptops are sold for more then 2000 dollars

@SlaveZer0: A 670m would be comparable to a GTS 240 as I said before laptops are bad for gaming

I don't think so. It's a GTX 570 with higher clock rates.

Also hey it's been a while since you've last posted, you seem to have changed a bit tounge.gif

@LoreLegend: According to benchmarks the 670m would be quite comparable to the GTX 460. Just saying.

off topic, but i have been humbled, i lost everything i own when my house and car burned down. it put me in perspective... i make a lot of money yes, but i cant replace pictures and stuff. finally got moved into my new house, first thing i did was grab parts from work and built my new rig, specs below. its not like my last monster, but i am short on funds at the moment.(yes i have to buy parts from a company i own lmao.

but all in all i think you find a much nicer and more thoughtful me. though i know some of you will miss my crazy rants.

Damn. Sorry to hear that. Good thing you got out safe though.

Also if it's the company you own, I think you should be able to take whatever you can. tounge.gif

Maybe you're CPU limited so you should OC a lil bit your i7. Maybe, with W8, you're not running the latest drivers for your system. Try to create a commandline.txt where your GTA IV executable is located and add this:

availablevidmem 2.0

if that doesn't work, try increasing by one.
