aliaseedful
Two university of Maryland students were recently killed in a murder-suicide, police told news-crews. The shooter, who was identified as Dayvon Maurice Green apparently opened fire on his two housemates and killed one, injuring another before killing himself. Blamed on yet another mental illness that was pre-existing before the incident, he is apparently another victim of low levels of mental healthcare in the United States. The suspect was studying computer sciences and had an undergraduate degree at Morgan University (I think that's the name.) Not much was known about this man or his motives, however he apparently set off (around 1.am) a fire in his basement on his home. When his two housemates ran in, probably scared half to death, he shot them both and killed one. This man is -was- obviously a crazed man, but there was still much to be done about him. He even had an undergraduate degree; I'm assuming this man was not just a lit stick of dynamite. I don't know much, but I'm going to say this man just lost it. Personally, I believe we should know more about this mental illness. This shouldn't be happening more and more. Read more about it, from MSNBC: Click here One of the victims has sustained non-life threatening injuries and is currently recovering in the hospital. Yes, I wrote this article. lil weasel
What is 'Mental Health Care'? The 'Doctors' pour pills into a bag and believe the 'patient' is taking them. The only true MHC is to lock the people up and force the pills down their throats like they did in the 50s. Or torture them to make them want to be healthy. There is NO cure for MH Problems, only the treating of the symptoms. A thing to see is, most Psychiatrists are Doctors who themselves couldn’t make it in the Real World of Medicine. And then there are really weird ones who can’t even get that far: Psychologists. Edited February 13, 2013 by lil weasel
GrandMaster Smith
Setting your basement on fire then killing your housemates once they discover the fire?? What a horrible thing.. and a horrible way to die. The more time goes on the more crazy society is becoming.. I really don't even want to know what's coming in the next few years. Seems like people are just getting more and more high strung, ready to snap at any given moment.
Triple Vacuum Seal
I thought I felt the earth shift off its axis a bit there. For f*cks sake, if this is going to be some sort of precursor for a massive argument about how gun violence is "spiraling out of control" despite the overall trend declining, then all I suggest taking your sensitive sentiment to any "hood" and you'll hear about double murders all the time. Better yet, Google child soldiers in Africa and you'll see a real epidemic. Not some random shooting. MSNBC's propaganda makes me sick. trip
The only true MHC is to lock the people up and force the pills down their throats like they did in the 50s. Ah come on...let's say up until Reagan closed the mental hospitals in the 80s. My theory: People's coping skills are medicated away at an early age and never given a chance to fully develop. As adults, trouble strikes them and they can't deal with it because they never learned how to 'cope' with bullsh*t properly. There were always crazy people doing crazy sh*t, but I do believe that we see more of it now because [in a sense] we make more crazy people through pharmaceutical treatment. aliaseedful
Or, you know, they could just work with them in a humane way. Like, therapy and finding causes and cures.

I've begun to wonder about those people who say it's in the water... What do we really know after all these years about the effects of stuff (like fluoride) they are putting in the water? Since fluoride was Government mandated, would they admit it is affecting a tiny percentage of the people (kids)? TheGodDamnMaster
My brother goes to school there, scary stuff. Unfortunately it's a really bad area and things like this aren't exactly uncommon. I remember when I was a Junior back in high school, my brother managed to sneak me into a bar using HIS fake ID, and then I passed it back to him so he could get in, the bouncers didn't care. Apparently there's some sort of mafia in the district that has a monopoly on all of the bars. There was a stabbing at the bar itself when I was in there, not 15 feet away from me. Needless to say, my parents found out I was drinking and were extraordinarily pissed that I could have been the victim. The Pizza Delivery Guy
I am not surprised by this, like some people. Most will respond with "HEY GUYS!!! MORE CHILDREN DIED BY GUNS!!!" And the bills pass. Maybe if I beat someone with a Bieber CD, America would ban those as well.

Oddsock
whatsstrength, I also went there and my younger sister does now too. Small world. Speaking of, my sister is very frustrated over the situation. She's been talking about how all over campus there are advertisements for student support channels. Counselors, classes, group discussions, all kinds of things that students are offered for free in order to ensure their positive mental health. And then sh*t like this happens. I really sympathize with my sister. It's completely indefensible to have so many opportunities to receive help for your mental health, but someone still decides to pull a deranged act like this. I don't really need to when the article clearly states that any link is casual "Our results support the possibility of adverse effects of fluoride exposures on children's neurodevelopment." "The children in high fluoride areas had significantly lower IQ than those who lived in low fluoride areas," Right, so they're established a casual link between high levels of fluoride in water and lower IQs. That's not establishing that "normal" doses fluoride in drinking water lowers IQ, just that "high" doses do.
