Algonquin Assassin
I think Watch Dogs will be a quality game, but I don't see it having much in common with GTA other than being open world. The whole government/spy/stealth feel of it makes it seem that way. IMO for R* to get a true competitor it would have tackle similar themes to GTA with a similar sense of humour. When you look at other open world games most have one or the other, but rarely both. Which is why I don't understand when they're tarred with the "GTA clone" brush. Most of them are nothing like GTA. Funnily enough I still consider Saints Row the closest thing to a real alternative to GTA. Back in 2006 while R* hadn't stepped in to current gen it really was the closest thing to a current gen GTA. After that the series seemed to split. So to me for R* to get a real competitor it needs to go to the lengths R* does with GTA.

After that the series seemed to split. So to me for R* to get a real competitor it needs to go to the lengths R* does with GTA. I think Watch Dogs will be another "interactive drama" panic, momentarily lauded by pretentious gamers desperate to view their preferred medium as a viable alternative to cinema and television, only to be forgotten about a year later, just like Heavy Rain and Mafia II. It is, in no way, a competitor to GTA, and is not an appropriate comparison. The reason there will never be an "alternative" to GTA is because, in the current gen if not the entire series, GTA has two things that set it apart: the mayhem and over the top action and stunts within the context of a realistic urban environment, and the powerful political perspective of its creators. The latter will never be recreated for obvious reasons, and the former will never be attempted because it will be sorely undermined by GTA. GTA stands alone as a completely unique franchise, and is probably the only entity in all entertaining media that is completely unemulatable. Even if the two things I mentioned could be recreated by another company, they'd have to make them mesh perfectly the way GTA does, and that's quite a task. Markhayzy
Rockstar needs competition, why everyone fails so much in open world? It's stupid Well Far Cry 3 was f*ckin awesome as sh*t! Best game of 2012. And the elder scrolls series are highly acclaimed also ( even though I don't really get into those games.) do see, not every open worlder is sh*t. Haven't you played assassins creed 3? The open world was truly amazing and believeable and IMO the best combat gameplay/ animations of any game I've ever played. Rockstar is no.1 but ubisoft are a close second and admittedly have a wider variety of games
Darth_Starkiller
About friends, it's like Mr. Darko said. Think EFLC, not IV. They won't call you (only you call them) and it won't drop if you don't call them. The activities will some be started by phone, other on the map.
