i litterally just a few hours ago had a dream that i made a thread just like this one here

so when i woke up i thought why not make it for real

anyway this is about the boat handling in iv compared to sleeping dogs

back in summer i got to drive a speed boat and feel what it feels like to actually drive one and it felt nothing like i would expect it to feel once you get up in speed the water turns into pavement where the boat barely touches it any bump would feel like hitting something it is very hard to explain but absolutely nothing like iv

later on a few months/weeks i played sleeping dogs and it started to remind me exactly about what it felt to drive one for real once you got up to speed the boat started to handle entirely different it got stuck to the water and it almost flew over it you could feel the boat actually speeding up

example

which made the handling in iv feel like driving in jello and very slow

so i think the boat handling could need some changes

I agree, the boat handling in IV was horrible, The handling was too slow, and it felt like driving on Virtual Jello, please improve it R*.

Driving a boat in IV was (and still is) a pain, my fingers hate it. I don't know how to explain it well, but I never felt willness to get on a boat in that game. It surely needs improvements...

not cars

It bothered me until I learned how to make sharper turns. It's hard to tell what Sleeping Dogs is like from that video, but it looks a too fast IMO.

I had no problems with the boat handling in GTA IV, you had two options, sharp and normal turning.

They should keep the two options to switch between. Though there is always room for improvement. So I vote for improvement.

personally, none of GTA's had good handling for boats. Vice City + San Andreas had waaaay to unrealistic handling for boats. IV tried to improve it but did a horrible horrible job

You know that even in the real world boats handling is not that fast like a car?

It was perfect for me in IV, very realistic.

Haven't known that Sleeping Dogs is looking that good. Thought the graphics are worse than in the video.

Improved! 0_0

But they will had 5 years or something to improve it, so I expect they did.

I really enjoyed the boat handling in IV, but that may be because of the water displacement.

The reason boats were a bit slow in IV and bounce up and down is the waves, they were quite big and effected the boat a lot.

In Sleeping Dogs the waves are a lot smaller and have no effect on the boat, like driving over a flat lake.

The turning at slow speeds in SD is like driving an uber-powered rear wheel drive car on the road. The pivot point is OK but the rear has no resistance, like instead of turning the rudder the whole propeller assembly turns 90 degrees. TBH this could just be down to the way over-sensitive steering in this game, it is getting a bit annoying for me playing through now but I just stop and look at the game's graphics and all bad feelings stop......aaaaahhhh inlove.gif

I was content with the boat handling in IV, my only gripe being making hard turns. I'm glad they weren't trying to mimic real-life buoyancy physics; it allowed for more gameplay convenience.

thats what i mean the boat flyes over water

as it did in real life when i drove one every bump is intense it feels like it is cutting through the water

when you speed up you can feel it getting attached to the water from loose in the water to almost sticking and cutting through it

sleeping dogs had this exact feeling you speed up and it starts to feel entirely different from when you just float

in iv you have the same exact feeling when standing still as driving fast no force applied or anything feels the same when you float as when you go in full speed

sleeping dogs got this perfect as i never even though about when i drove a boat i got REMINDED of it when playing sleeping dogs they got boat handling perfectly in my honest opinion

and from my experience of driving a real one sleeping dogs got the speed perfect

the rest of the game though is a total mess felt dead in traffic handling felt terrible the water ripple effects look half the quality as the water itself textures popped at the most noticable way when getting closer to things even lights started lightning up slowly as you got close to them

they got boat handling right though

The boats in IV handled quite realistically.

Therefore, I vote "improve it", as in make it unrealistic.

Just wasn't that fun tounge.gif

Some pretty apt language in this thread- driving through jelly is a good way to describe it. I hated it, there was something about that feeling of trudging through the water without feeling the force or speed at all that made it feel like such a chore. The boat feels like it struggles to get past every wave. I thought I'd have to resign myself to forever hating boating in GTA, until I read the insights in this thread, I actually think I'd quite enjoy it if you felt like the boat was dug into the water, sliced through the waves and you could actually feel your speed and the power of the boat.

I voted to keep it as it is because I f*cking love driving now. Especially after a few lengthy sessions and working out how to fly around corners and through busy traffic.

The biggest problem i found was visual. The suspension looked so weak.

Aside from that I loved it.

I didn't like the boat handling in IV, because the waves slowed down the speed and I need to point the nose of the boat so the boat landed good on the waves.

Bring back the Tug, in my opinion the best boat in the game, the handling is spot on and the speed.
