matajuegos
well IV didnt have the visible wheel, but you could still hold L1 and press the cross pad, up for automatic, down for shotty, right for projectiles and left for pistol..... but what about grenades? shotguns? knife?? Miss Darko
^Well, "projectiles" is grenade/molotov, and "shotty" is shotgun. So 2/3 is there. As I've said before, I'd really like an RDR-style weapon wheel in V. It was great how responsive it was, as once you get used to it, you can switch weapons with the wheel only appearing for like a split second or so, as you memorize which way you have to point the analogue stick; you can do it pretty much simultaneously with pressing L1/LB. It's also a hell of a lot easier to switch your weapons while walking or riding, because the button its uses doesn't require the use of your left thumb. significantother
A dumb question that's been asked before and probably doesn't deserve its own thread... Honestly, I really hate it when people do this. If you know it's dumb/been asked before/doesn't deserve a thread, why post it? On Topic: I don't think so. I much prefer just scrolling through the weapons.
SirTerning
Well, as much as I love RDR and adored the story I did not like the weapon wheel, in fact I don't like any of the versions that have been used in games the last few years... This has mostly to do about that when you don't hold the thumb stick it will go back to the middle (Something that have happened to me quite often), as I sometime let go of the thumb stick before the L1/LB button or I move the thumbstick just a little, I end up with a different weapon or no weapon at all. However if they where to have it to hold on the selected weapon of my choosing after I let go of the thumb stick in GTAV then I would be absolutely fine with it, but I highly doubt that is going to happen... Also I find the old 'scroll trough system that have been in every GTA since the early days to work much better with the way it handle since you can easily change weapons and still go around running/driving while doing so and not have a big circular window blurring everything out so you don't see a damn. But then again I understand that some people find it out-dated and wants it to go. So what I want to see is the option to choose between the two since both is good in their own respective ways, and that it is not nessesary to get rid of everything of the ''old'' GTA heritage just because of them going a new bold way with the series. dee8ball
Absolutely. In RDR, you could even swap out the various weapons in each gun class while selecting your gun, it was perfect. Agreed. Grand Theft Auto Five should definitely have a weapon wheel it makes selecting weapons alot easier. Also i agree with holding all weapons at once. Actually, traditional GTA scrolling completely interferes with your ability to walk/run around while switching weapons, because it requires the use of your left thumb. One could use other fingers potentially, but it would be really awkward. That's the primary advantage of the weapon wheel. And if it's really responsive like RDR's, then you'd hardly even see the wheel in the screen. At least I was able to learn to switch between weapons very quickly and fluidly so that it only appears for like a second. SirTerning
^ Oh sorry I confused two different things.. I remember now that L1/LB and R1/RB is for radio and so forth (Have not played a single GTA in quite some time so I can be wrong again here), so scratch that part. If they make it to stick instead of automaticly go back to middle when I let go of the thumbstick before L1/LB This happens then I'm all good Edited February 12, 2013 by SirTerning

I never have the weapon wheel up for more than a split second unless I want to. That's the whole point. I get to pick which weapon I want quickly, instead of "scrolling" which is very inefficient. Switching my fingers around just to change weapons while moving in GTA IV just isn't as simple as running or riding and quickly pulling up the wheel and picking the exact weapon I want when I want. It's one thing to feel nostalgic about the old way, but to say it's better is almost factually wrong. Going from one weapon you have to the weapon you want should be one move, because that's the way our minds work. If you want something, you should be able to choose it. Not going through weapons you don't currently want until the one you want appears in your hand. R* has evolved passed this. They're not going back to the old way. Dick Justice
I'd actually be really disappointed if it wasn't the weapon wheel. It's 1000x better than scrolling through one at a time.
iNero
They better add a wheel finally. Its awful to scroll through the weapons in a firefight. It worked great in RDR.
douggoud
To anyone who says that the weapons wheel was "annoying" or that they "couldn't get used to it", I'm sorry, but how difficult could it possibly be to (for the PS3) hold L1 and move the right analog stick to the weapon you want? I want the weapons wheel in V, it was so much faster than the traditional scrolling. Sure, there was that shortcut thing for the scrolling, but that was only 4 weapons (if memory serves right). If I had a SMG, a AK47, a Sniper Rifle, and a Rocket Launcher, I'd be set right? Oh wait, I need a grenade/molotov as well! What do I do now? If only I had the weapons wheel where I had EVERYTHING at my fingertips! Another nice thing about the weapons wheel is that I could carry other versions of a weapon. I could have TNT AND Fire Bottles, with the scrolling system, you'd have to choose which one I wanted. Sure that'd be more realistic, but then, how realistic is carrying a rocket launcher in your coat in the first place? I obviously wouldn't care if it was the scrolling system put in V, I got through IV just fine with it, HOWEVER, the weapons wheel would be a nice addition, and the fact that they put in not only in RDR, but also MP3, I'm guessing there's a high probability of it being in V, but it's just that, a probability. Miss Darko
I still want to know what they're doing in the way of invisible pockets or holsters Seeing as none of the screenshots seem to show the characters with holsters or guns anywhere but in their hands, I'm going to assume they will produce weapons out of thin air as is the custom in GTA. Brain_freeZe
Weapon wheel all the way ! It was a small (but great) addition to RDR.. Made weapon selection so much more easier. Way better than scrolling through 'em, especially during gunfights. Frankly, I'd be surprised if it didn't find its way into V. It just seems the right way to go. So it's sort of like a mixture of both, where we technically have the weapon equipped but we don't have to walk around with it in our hands the whole time. I'm just guessing that weapons won't be visibly holstered, because I don't see that in any of the screenshots.

It would make all the difference sorta like the saboteur

However, it would be a nice touch if pedestrians see you strolling down the road carrying a weapon & give you a wide berth. If your're carrying a massive weapon, they should react more like they do in IV (running away screaming).
