    • 1) The game simply does not work. It crashes, has thousands of bugs that can not be fixed and is a total disaster?

    • 2) They are chopping content and creating DLC content in order to maximise profits?

    • 3) They realised not including empire building was a massive mistake and are adding it due to popular demand? (lol)

I agree with the OP for one single reason.

Wouldn't Rockstar have factored a polish/bug fixing period into their schedule, before announcing a release?

Surely, if you announce a release date - the majority of the game is complete, and things need to be sorted out, cleaned up and tied together.

Judging by their delays in the past, wouldn't they have learnt not to be optimistic when announcing release dates, and been like "Oh, look what happened last time. Perhaps we should add another couple of months on, just for safety."

I have a feeling that it is something wrong with the game, they have not updated for a while, that makes me worried. Maybe it was on of the workers that did something really stupid that ruined the whole game, but I don't totally blame the workers, I think they are working really hard on this, they are doing a great job.

I have my own idea of what is happening.

First we all know Watch Dogs is going to be a hit this year, it was considered the best of E3.

Did you notice the constant action of multiple characters and the fun you can have with that game? Well, R* noticed their game was not as ¨fun¨ as that one, they knew now action is very high rated.

So they just started doing the three characters, just think, its not that hard to add 2 characters, you asign them houses and contrast the personalities for extra fun and so everybody is happy, the main history line would not be too changed neither, just make a team to do the job and do some missions including the extra characters. Either, why wouldnt they show all the characters in the first trailer so we can be very hyped?

R* is kind of redoing the game to be a good competence to the new action games this year, particularly for Watch Dogs, whom, i believe, invented this concept of constant changing between the characters.

Er, well, it just seems like a logical progression from the way multiple protagonists was handled in GTA IV. I wasn't even aware Watch Dogs had multiple player characters, so it seems that it's not all that heavily emphasized.

Hmm.. R* announces a delay for V and the next day Sony release a teaser for the 20th of this month. Could these two events be linked to something or just a coincidence?

Other:

Increasing performance on consoles, enhancing and developing online features.

Thats what I think they are doing right now.

It's to do with next gen consoles.

It was quite weird how the Newswire quickly came out and mentioned conspiracies surrounding the delay.

Well it's justa matter of time to see who was with conspiracies and who was being honest. If they bring NEXTGEN versions close to the original release (which I doubt) their word will worth as much as zero. Yes they do what they want and when they want, but if they insult players and then do exactly what they insulted them for, their name will be in the mud. But they trolled investors twice already so, not sure what to expect.

Shouldn't they have said that in the beginning?

one of the biggest video game makers in the world and it happens to delay their game surely there is something wrong with the game...

4months delay which isnt much as Rockstar would feed the trolls with information and trailers.

Have a think about what you are saying.

Four months to fans, sure, not a long time.

Four months for R* and their investors?

How many copies would have been sold during that time...

Lets have a look at IV:

http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Grand_Theft_Auto

Grand Theft Auto 4 for the PS3 and Xbox 360 sold over 6 million copies in its first week and 3.6 million on day one. This equates to a worldwide sales value of $500 million after one week and $310 million on release day, which was a new all-time sales record for any form of entertainment, including movie industry.

The question is why would R* postpone sales in excess of a billion dollars by four months? (1/2 a billion in week one for IV, surely V will eclipse that no worries)

Answer? Because they HAVE to. Not cause the WANT to. Game is broken. That is obvious. Imagine how much interest is being lost daily on a billion dollars. Approximately 112 million PER DAY at 4%.

So for everyone saying its polishing, lol. Better be a billion dollars worth of polishing.

Those saying its for online enhancements, they could have thrown patches out for that.

For anyone thinking its for any other reason other than the game does not work, have a think.

Thats my humble opinion.

I'm starting to ponder the thought that GTAV will also be a launch title for next gen systems (whatever that entails, such as GTAV releasing in October if consoles release in October), and be improved on them with greater FPS, graphics, online players limit, etc...

As such, I voted 4) just for the hell of it. It sure would be cool to play GTAV on next gen, but improved to perform like the PC version.

All their V files were lost, and their backups were destroyed. In 7 months they will have to come up with a entirely new game.

Watch Dogs has only one protagonist.

They're working on formulating the best strategy on when and how to announce the next delay which will push V further back into 2014.

You heard it here. Remember to quote me when it happens.

First of all, the game isn't being delayed by 7 months. I don't know why people keep on assuming that it is. The game wasn't originally going to be released in February now was it? Technically it's only been delayed for about 4 months which is a completely normal time span for delayed games nowadays. Second of all, I think you are being a bit overly dramatic about this whole situation.

To me, it would seem as though you have no past experience with other games being delayed. Take for instance Halo 2. Halo 2 was delayed about 2-3 times before a set release date was announced for November of 2004.

R* simply delayed GTA: V because they felt as a team, they could make the game perform better for the consumer. They are doing us a favor here. I would rather get a top notch quality game that has taken more development time to make then some rushed out bug/glitch infested game that has taken a short amount of time to make.

September will be here before you know it.

well said, man

My only disagreement is the assertion that September is a short way's away. The original release date was probably somewhere around May and we're still only a little over halfway through February, so even if the game hadn't been delayed I'd probably be a bit antsy at the moment (of course, let's consider that I would be infinitely more hyped at this point if the game were still coming out so soon). Time isn't moving especially fast, so let's be honest: September's quite a way's away. We started this year not long ago and the projected release date is near the end of the year (and that's barring any potential future delays).

However, that's why we stop focusing on GTA V and instead on other aspects of our lives. When you actively wait for something that's really far away, it wears away at your patience and your expectations build, because you want it to be worth the wait. But no game is worth actively waiting that long for. If you do this, you are going to end up frustrated and disappointed. You don't have to completely forget about V; I'm going to be visiting this forum for quite some time until near to release. But I only really think about V when I'm on here, because it's not time yet. And then eventually, when marketing ramps up for the release, we can start getting our excitement for V back in gear, without being worn out.

Other.

Game is being polished to meet gamers inflated expectations.

Why is this poll so negative? It basically seems to be asking "in what way have R* lied to us?", rather than "why has it been delayed?"

Signatures are dumb anyway.

True words, However there are other more interesting sections than the regurgitated topics here in the V section. For 2 and a half years I checked the V section multiple times daily. Now i've settled in for the wait, and often don't even visit the V section when I come on to the forum.

We know next to NOTHING about one of the newest and "major" new things in V... the online aspects, yet we are making presumptions as to what is or is not wrong with it??

I think the online aspect of it is the main hold up.... without a "open" stress test, they are gonna have some serious ironing to do to insure that the online part of it works from the offset and is flawless (or close atleast).

People who are still complaining are not true fans at all. You need to know that it is a good thing they are delaying it since they are going to fix bugs and improve some stuff if not a lot. Stop being so sentimental and get on with your life, if you even have one.

Amen, brother.

The big problem that games face these days is... the people playing them.

Case in point: Mass Effect 3.

People didn't like the ending, because they'd built up to something else in their heads. The developers released it with the ending THEY wanted, but people bitched and they caved. Things were changed, egos were massaged.

And that's WRONG. Games are art, like movies, books and music. The artists have the final say in when it's finished and when they're happy with it. But that doesn't happen in games. Gamers feel this sense of self entitlement that makes them think it's OK to change a games ending. Or to rush it to completion.

And they get totally f*cking butthurt when developers have to delay, even though IT'S FOR THE GAMERS BENEFIT.

I don't understand this mentality in gamers. Imagine if a huge rock band put out an album and people complained that they didn't like the last song, or the ending of the last song. Do you think a rock star would give a f*ck about that? Do you think they'd change that song?

Do you think they'd spend five years writing and recording something and release it if they weren't happy with how it was?

f*ck no. So why do gamers think it's OK to pressure developers into that sort of thing? Or to complain like they've made some sort of contribution to the process and THEIR art is being compromised, not the developers art?
