GroundZero
I 've been thinking about posting this for a while. Remember how much different the Beta Version of IV was from the Final Version? For example, in IV's Beta, there would be more missions, female police officers, you could take Badman, Phil Bell and Bernie Crane on friend activities, fingerless gloves for Niko, more weapons, more songs, the return of Well Stacked Pizza Co., a city bus service and many, many, many other cool features. To cut a long story short, what I'm trying to point out is that I am afraid that many features that we 've been promised to will not make it to the final version of the game... What do you guys think about this? (go to http://gta.wikia.com/Beta_Releases for more information about IV's beta version)
Baseball
They may cut some features, those who they think are not right for the game. But most of the stuff we've seen is still probably gonna be there. Plus, with the delay, they may actually add some features too. By the way, this has been discussed before. Andreas
Rockstar made some sort of promise in an Asked&Answered in July last year that they want to keep plenty back and that they only want to release correct informations to avoid exactly this what you are talking about. I hope that it remains true. Here's what Rockstar said: “Why don’t you give us more news?” – received via Mouthoff As we have said before, we have often had long gaps between asset releases on previous games and will continue to do so in the future. We are sorry if you find this frustrating, but please understand, we don’t do this because we ‘don’t care about our fans' 'don’t respect our fans’ 'hate GTA fans etc' – precisely the opposite! We do it because we want to make sure we only release 100% correct information, and because we want to keep plenty back for the actual game release so there are still lots of surprises when you play it. The only things we care about are that you enjoy the experience of actually playing the game and that we release accurate information. simonp92
The important fact that people tend to forget is that the final version also improved the game in other areas over the Beta. It's ofcourse always easier to see the negative aspects. There's a reason developers doesn't release the Betas.
Matty
Some of the cut features in the beta versions of the game; besides being cut because they don't suit the overall style/theme of the game as mentioned by others above, were probably cut because they were buggy and don't work as intended. A feature is only cool if it works properly - if a feature doesn't work properly, it is beyond frustrating for the player. There is really no point with a developer risking another possible delay by taking the time to iron the bugs out of features that don't really fit with the game. It is the reason why most developers do beta versions of their games before doing a final 'release' version - to test out any features and iron out any bugs from any feature that fits with the game as well as cut any feature that does not really fit with the game. GTA V will have things changed and cut, added and changed, IMO, as all GTA games have. I'd personally rather play a game a handful of well thought out, fleshed out and refined features that are relevant to the overall theme of the game rather than a game with a whole lot of of half-arsed features that are buggy and are irrelevant to the game. Trund
(...) what I'm trying to point out is that I am afraid that many features that we 've been promised to will not make it to the final version of the game... What do you guys think about this? (go to http://gta.wikia.com/Beta_Releases for more information about IV's beta version) This website mentions what things "might" have been in the game, but it doesn't mention all the things that were fixed or added. So to me this absolutely means nothing. As long as it's not like Paranormal Activity 3, where 80% of the scenes you saw in the trailer weren't in the actual movie.... rapturerocks
What you are describing is not only true of GTA or even video games, but true of all art. Directors, authors, musicians and painters leave stuff on the cutting room floor, it's part of the process. It's only because of the nature of game marketing and perhaps the ease of removing things from a game that we even notice this stuff. Would The Shining have been better with that prologue Kubrick wanted? Maybe, or maybe not. But at the end of the day, the movie is still a masterpiece, we all forget about the scenes that didn't make it.
