PlainGold
Ok so I have been getting low FPS on games recently. After some months I played gta 4 on my 4 year old Xbox 360 and getting like 20 25 FPS. This may be due to the following reasons 1. My game is old and and is scratched. 2. I have a very old console which is why my disk drive may be slightly damaged. 3. I played gta 4 on PC at 60 FPS and got used to it which is why I have difficulty at playing games on my console. 4. Other Which one do you think it is?
ccrogers15
Most likely reason 2. That was very common. Original launch 360`s are sheer crap and were known to die fast, and it also had the highest failure rate of a console in history. I know this first hand. I had 4, FOUR, xbox 360 white models RROD under a year of life each. Got sick and tired of it and bought a PS3 slim, THAT STILL WORKS. Dont think im some PS3 fanboy though. The PS3 also has its own set of issues, but at least the failure rate is much more rare then the common Xbox 360 failure rate. Id suggest you get a PS3 slim and throw your 360 out. (Or sell it while you still can). Id suggest you buy a new console. Dont even try to repair it. It would not be worth it. And no offence, but its highly unlikely you got 60FPS on GTA IV
Killerdude
A) You are playing on a 4 year old system with a possibly damaged disk drive. B) You are using a really scratched disk. I think I see your problem.... Think you might wanna upgrade to the slim model, I hear its really good compared to the arcade style, Infact I think you should just drop your old system and disk entirely, start fresh. Mostly because of the age. But eitherway, its likely the drive is failing. This was very common in original xbox 360 models. The slim console is safe to use and has a very low fail rate, just like the PS3 slim. So, buy a slim console, ALSO, buy a new disk. As he said above, start fresh. You can transfer your save games over from the fat to slim console with a official xbox 360 memory card. But just know Xbox 360 Fat harddrives are not compatible with xbox 360 slims. The slim 360 RROD is uncommon, as it was totally overhauled in design on the inside. New processor and GPU, better fan placement, more reliable power supply, etc.
nigelhere9901
I get 20-25FPS on my PS3 too but only when i'm standing on some high point, When an explosion occurs i think it goes down to 15FPS idk lol, I think that may be normal or it may be because of the disc, Because it doesn't matter if you have an old console, My 360 was like 5 Years Old and it still didn't lag, Only the load times were increased and that's it. Pat
You aren't going to get higher than 25FPS playing the console versions of GTA IV. I've owned both and the absolute highest framerate I ever managed was 30FPS in the Booth Tunnel before pedestrian drivers had spawned. On both the Xbox 360 and PS3, I was averaging 25FPS in most areas and as little as 20FPS in heavily populated areas (the PS3 in particular seemed to struggle with high amounts of pedestrians on-screen, the absolute lowest framerate I noticed was on the PS3 in Star Junction). Mr. Reaper.
Use a Standard DVD Lens cleaner CD, and clean your Disc. I'm not sure if it's possible with Xbox 360 Games, but consider getting the disc 'buffed' I remember that used to work great on PS2 and the first Xbox. I don't think Microsoft has changed there type of discs so give it a shot!

Get the Slim, I just got mine yesterday and I am already noticing an improvement. It's silent, faster, and games run slightly better and load a few seconds quicker.
