sambo613
Whenever I play GTA IV on my computer It enters slow motion for like 5 seconds then goes back to normal for like 30 seconds then back slow motion and so on. I think it is bottlenecking my GPU? Any help or suggestion on how I can fix it if that means buying something to upgrade for my computer. Heres an example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmj4GadUleE...player_embedded And I don't have anything running in the background. Thanks Specs: AMD HD 7850 2GB GDDR5 8192 MB RAM Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit AMD FX™-4170 Quad-Core Processor (4CPUs) ~4.2GHz Ive included a photo link of my settings right below. http://i.imgur.com/chiveTi.jpg?
Prometheus
I'm not completely sure, but I don't think that the graphics card is bottlenecked by the CPU; it isn't really that weak. Anyways you could turn off vsync and try this -memrestrict command trick and check if the stuttering is any less.
yoječ
It wouldn't hurt to overclock this CPU. IMHO it isn't good enough as it is. it's no match for the Phenom II X4 965 for exampel, and even these sometimes couldn't keep up with HD7850. I tried commandline before and I just tried it again but either i'm not doing it right or nothings working, I already looked up how to do it so I think its just not working and ?If I overclock my PC will it be safe and fix the problem? yoječ
It's safe as long as you have a proper power supply and you keep the CPU cool.

My PSU is Corsair 600W (CX600 Model), and my temperture is usually around 47 Degrees celsius when not playing games
yoječ
I guess you're using a stock cooler then? You won't be able to overclock your CPu high without overheating under load.

Yes, so I can overclock but to recommended settings right? If I would I would overclock through the AMD Vision Control Center to their recommended settings for my PC
luceberg
Sorry to disagree, but overclocking will not help this problem. If you look at the video, it is not cpu lag, more like gpu lag. You posted this problem before and were advised by Brainsick to use the commandline '-notimefix'. Have you tried that, and can you confirm that you are using commandlines correctly? When you save the commandline, you name it "commandline" and not "commandline.txt". Also, are you using a keyboard and mouse for control? There is an issue with using the W,A,S,D buttons that can cause this lag. Edited February 9, 2013 by luceberg

Non of these commandlines are working for me, and by the way the video was an example that I find, not mine, so I will upload a video now of it so you can see and I use the keyboard also
unc13bud
i thought i linked that video already? well, anyway, are all the drivers loaded for your computer? no question marks or exclamation points while checking device manager?
sambo613
i thought i linked that video already? well, anyway, are all the drivers loaded for your computer? no question marks or exclamation points while checking device manager? Tried it but no luck, although if this helps I was trying it out when the slow motion/shuttering started happening and I looked at the FPS in the corner and it dropped down all the way to 16 FPS from 60 FPS then 3 seconds later it went back to normal at around 60 FPS and this is what has been happening, so I hope this helps figuring it out. Also the USB Controller Driver has an exclamation, and I don't know where to download it at, and its saying it is not installed under "Other Devices". lydianduck
You should try disabling the 'windows event log' service, it causes conflicts with some keyboards on GTA IV. Try that and report back!

luceberg
As a workaround, you could try the commandlines, -refreshrate 30 and -framelimit 1 If your monitor supports it, the fps will be locked to 30fps. It may work with higher fps, say 40 instead of 30, again it depends on the monitor, I think.

luceberg
I don't think the psu is the problem. A corsair 600 watt should be more than adequate. If you could post a video, not using fraps, but an external camera instead, that could be useful. Edited February 11, 2013 by luceberg
unc13bud
Also the USB Controller Driver has an exclamation, and I don't know where to download it at, and its saying it is not installed under "Other Devices". do you have a driver CD that came with your motherboard? or maybe give us the motherboard name and version and Google "other devices" and that motherboard. you probably aren't the first with this issue...
