assmillk
My pc is about 3 years old now, and i would like to be able to play more games on it. As of now, many games are difficult to play on mid level settings such as minecraft, i can only play on tiny view distance with some lag. i dont know a whole lot about computers but ill give my specs to give an idea of what im working with here. its a hp compaq presario, got it for about 300$ 3 years ago. RAM:2GB Processor: AMD Sempron 140 processor 2.70 GHz 64 bit windows 7 it has Nvidia GeForce 6150 SE nForce 430. Hard drive has about 500gb if that helps What should i do to be able to play more games on this pile of sh*t?
Wolf68k
Desktop or laptop? If desktop does it have a PCIE 8x or 16x slot? If desktop what is the PSU specs and is it a standard size PSU? You may have to replace it. What games do you want to play?

Trund
Pretty much any GFX will be bottlenecked by the CPU. It's just extremely slow, so buying any modern GFX will not help your problem at all. You could go with GFX's from a few years ago to really squeeze out the last of the CPU. An nVidia 8800GT perhaps, something like that.

Trund
Depends what games you want to play. If you want to play any modern game on at least medium settings then there's no other option. If you want to play 2-3 year old games then you won't need a complete upgrade. I'll show you why: http://techreport.com/review/11931/amd-690g-chipset/9 Here you see the performance of your current GFX, as you see these games are quite old already and the performance really isn't good at all. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/Sempron_140/10.html This is your CPU with an older GFX, but yet far better than yours. Even there the GFX is overpowered already, but as you can see you can still decently run older games on it, way better than with your current GFX. So, it depends what you need it for. What would i have to do to be able to play a game like this on medium settings, so it looks fairly decent, and playable?
Trund
Tough question really. The official specs state that you require a nVidia 7600GT Class card, which yours isn't. But those are the minimum specs. Recommended is a card with 1024MB Ram and nVidia GTS 450 Class card, or better of course. A GTS 450 is however a darn fast card for your CPU, which will bottleneck it still. So I'm not sure what the result would be like, but if you ask me it would be playable with a card like that. Trund
You could, but then it's a question of budget and the mainboard you have. Anyways, I'm sure that even your system would gain a lot from a GTS 450. I did some research and it's pretty much the best card you can get for its price (around $80 on eBay). All the other cards with similar speeds seem to be far more expensive still. Do you by any chance know what mainboard you have?

Trund
Very tough decision. I'd suggest an AMD Phenom II X4 925, I think this is probably the best you can get for this mobo (Your mainboard has a maximum limitation of 95W TDP). It's an AM3 CPU, your Mainboard is AM2+, but according to this http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardw...ght/true#M25664 it will work after a BIOS Update (I even believe this is the PC you have). The only problem is that this CPU seems quite expensive for its performance....
yoječ
945 is the best X4 95W Phenom. Well, the 960T actually, but it also requies X6 support, since it's a Phenom X6 with two cores disabled.

I'm going to think about what to do. Thanks for all the help man i really appreciate it.
