Fallout 4 likely for next gen consoles

The "Fallout 4" release date went from "nothing" to "in development" thanks to a recent tweet from "Fallout" series voice actor Erik Todd Dellums. Dellums plays radio personality Three Dog, and tweeted to fans, "There may be more of the Dog coming!" "Fallout" fans immediately seized on the tweet as proof positive that a "Fallout 4" game was in development at Bethesda, and as the story spread from website to website Dellums had to do some damage control and deleted the rumor-tastic tweet. The damage, of course, was already done.

"I let [bethesda] know that fans were clamouring, trying to figure out if there's any chance that Three Dog would be back sometime," Dellums told OXM. "And, you know, they let it slip that it looks like Three Dog will. And they said that, 'Well, maybe you could tell your fans.' I don't think they even anticipated it would explode like this."

And now, the explosion continues.

A report from Italian gaming site Io Videogioco unearthed a job posting on Bethesda's site looking for "experienced programmers to work on cutting-edge technology for an unannounced game on future-generation consoles."

While it doesn't specifically say it's for the "Fallout" series, the ad lists "experience playing Bethesda Game Studios games a plus" in the requirements. The speculation is that the post refers to the "Fallout" series, as Bethesda Game Studios (as opposed to their sister company and "Dishonored" publisher Bethesda Softworks) has only published Elder Scrolls and "Fallout" titles in the last decade.

Since the "Elder Scrolls" franchise is currently being used on the "Elder Scrolls: Online" game, it seems to me that "Fallout 4" is the only other logical product for Bethesda Game Studios to be developing. "Fallout" is an amazing franchise, and I can't wait to see what Bethesda is able to pull off on the next gen systems. After all, these are the guy who figured out how to create the immense world of "Skyrim" using only the 512 MB of RAM on current generation consoles. Imagine what they can do with the rumored 8 GB appearing in the next gen consoles.

Dellums told OXM that fans shouldn't expect any official announcement for a while, and the hiring of a dev team seems to confirm this.

"Unfortunately my lips have been sealed," Dellums told the site. "They're very private people. They probably love the fact that on some level that the fans are clamouring. But I think they're digging too deeply now, and Bethesda's trying to keep things as secret as possible."

Some of those secrets were reportedly leaked in a Reddit post last year. According to the post, "Fallout 4" would be set in Boston and feature some android-heavy action by way of MIT. However, the poster has since retracted his statements, saying that "I have no proof because this was all a lie. Got bored and posted this."

Ok, so, boo-hoo for that rumor being fake because Boston sounded like the perfect place to set the next game. However, fake rumors don't stop fans and experts from making wishlists of what they want to see in "Fallout 4". PC Gamer ran a great wishlist that highlighted a lot of the things I daydream about when I drift into "Fallout 4" fantasies. More NPCs populating towns and roads, a stronger emphasis on survival and a less-forgiving karma system are all points I agree with. I also think "Fallout 4" could benefit from some "Skyrim"-style crafting options. A wasteland full of junk gets a lot cooler if you can turn that junk into crap, and then turn that crap into stuff. Picking up odds and ends to trade for caps is a lot less rewarding than hoarding strange objects so that you can create rare objects further down the road.

Anyone interested in the latest "Fallout 4" developments are encouraged to follow Dellums on Twitter, at least according to Dellums himself.

"I keep telling people to follow me on Twitter and if they give me a bone, Three Dog will share that bone. I get little hints that I toss out there," he said.

I hope it's not as buggy as Fallout 3. I've not played New Vegas though.

I think the story could be opened differently for this one, I'd LOVE if you were born in a hospital, normally, on an unaffected island that lives like everyone else did before the bombs.

So you'd have little segments where you're in this unaffected world and everything is happy as you're a child, you're familiar with certain parts of the world, you see your house and it's nice and everything.

Then when you're around 19 and you happen to be in a Vault Tec vault expedition, and you're on a tour, BOOM.

A little after you head out, you see the world ruined, you see your house, all dark and messed up, it would add to the harshness of the explosion and make you feel you've actually lost something.

Fallout 3's happy pre war "adverts" that joked about nuclear bombs and "toxic bubblegum" with all the jolly pre-war music had that same feeling.

Does anyone else think vehicles would be awesome?

It'd be sweet to see an old broken down car shell, and then head out, gather loads of parts for it, like a new set of wheels (mismatched ofcourse) and find an old functioning engine and everything, and finally get it work after all the time spent gathering parts. Running over 20 ghouls would be so satisfying.
