ziggymank
I'm an aspiring filmmaker (mainly screenwriter), and my goal is to become very successful within the industry. It's gonna prove to be very difficult I'm sure, but f*ck it I'd rather fail at it all my life than work some 9-5 job. Anyone else like me out there? If so, just say a few words about yourself, what you specialize in, your thoughts on film school, etc. I'm hoping to someday gain entrance in one of the top film schools (USC being my top choice). I just thought this would be a cool thread to see if anyone shares my interest in film and is looking to get into the industry someday
Typhus
I've just finished the first draft of a script I'm working on for a short film. Whilst my project will indeed be difficult, I am confident that my idea is both original and intriguing enough to garner some interest from film festivals if the movie is completed to a high enough standard. DeeperRed
It has been my only passion in life, something that combines my interests of human psychology, storytelling and photography into one medium. I am currently at University (a very sh*tty one) studying Film Production but I hope I have the ability to break in some how. I haven't done anything fantastic yet so my confidence is starting to lower however I am looking at all opportunities to improve. If you have anything to show drop me a pm and I'll leave some constructive feedback. As of now I have only really done one proper piece and even that was extremely low budget with no crew. Acehilm
I do film, but nothing special. I rather watch film then do film. I enjoy watching independent films such as 'Waking Life' and some stuff on SBS.
Tchuck
I write a screenplay every now and then, mostly short stuff. Have yet to get the time to try to shoot some stuff. You should get this book, really helped open my eyes to the whole business, and inspired me a bit.
DEALUX
I have always liked the idea of making films but I never really thought that I would want to be famous. I thought about making a series inspired by my life and post it on YouTube, and I had various other film ideas. I would probably rather do music videos for my songs but that won't happen any time soon as I don't have that kind of money yet. Raavi
As a kid and a teenager I was really into acting. I'm starting to get into it again. But filmmaking not so much. – overeducated wonk who fetishises compromise
Mister Pink
It has been my only passion in life, something that combines my interests of human psychology, storytelling and photography into one medium. I am currently at University (a very sh*tty one) studying Film Production but I hope I have the ability to break in some how. I haven't done anything fantastic yet so my confidence is starting to lower however I am looking at all opportunities to improve. If you have anything to show drop me a pm and I'll leave some constructive feedback. As of now I have only really done one proper piece and even that was extremely low budget with no crew. This and bolded the part for truth. Mu background is photography but my friends and a couple of college friends and I have been working as a crew to get some of our shorts made. So far we've done one and have just completed pre-production on our second. I've done some commercial sutff like promo videos with those friends but we want to build a portfolio of quality work we can show people in future. Going back to the psychology of it all. I had a funny smoke and we were watching my mates wedding DVD which was kind of boring. I made a joke about a very spectacular scene of someone busting in sexually violating the priest whilst holding a gun to the Brides head. Nobody could do anything. It would be so awkward. A long tense silence from all the people in the church and just the sound of skin slapping together haha. OK I had to explain that. But now, we are actually writing that short. That's the ending of the film and we're trying to create a believable character in the lead up to that event. We were really methodical about our characters creation and with the whole process. I mean the event sounds sick and crazy but we want to make a beautiful character study of someone or events in someones life that may trigger such a thing. My co-writer on that project is huge on psychology, as am I. It's great getting to blend them all in together Last video I made was a test video. I've never graded before so I wanted to mess with that on this video. I also have a plan to shoot some BMXers this summer for a larger project so I went by myself with my camera and shot this footage. As you'll see there are loads of production 'mistakes.' My mate made the music. Edited February 9, 2013 by ThePinkFloydSound RUBBΣR░J♢HNNY (スオッ)
Eminence
I'm an aspiring screenwriter. Didn't go to film school/do a writing-related course; my degree is in English. I think an understanding and knowledge of wider literary roots would serve you better than someone teaching you the A to B of writing a script. You should drop by Writers' Discussion and share a little bit of what you've written.
universetwisters
I reckon you could say I'm a filmmaker, even though all I make are "mashups"
Kippers
I'm only a few months away from graduating Uni doing TV/Film Production. It's fun, i'm sure I can eventually make money from it. Who knows. 習うより慣れろ
Triple Vacuum Seal
Funny you made this topic OP. I've been pondering this a lot recently. I've always had passion for films and have been a great story teller since my elementary-school days. I've never had training in a formal sense, but I'm a natural with vivid story telling and directing. I've been taking a very different path in life from this passion to pursue a life in the financial services industry since investing is one of my other passions. One of my parent's coworkers decided to pursue a life in film directing after retiring recently, so I guess there's always time. It just wouldn't be the same to start late. Brobinski
Film is absolutely my passion. I'm fixing to do a masters in broadcast journalism once I've finished my degree and have done a number of short form documentaries in my (nearly completed) time as an undergrad. I've been praised both by a number of my lecturers/teachers and by some of the staff at the local Sky News office when I did a work placement there. Funny thing is I've never felt I'm that good at it and just rock up and try not to overthink stuff. So hopefully, I might end up working in news TV or documentary film making or some such industry. I'd love to do some work in feature films and drama but it'd have to be as a purely technical role, I know myself well enough to know I'm not really creative enough to do the conceptual work.
