What content I don't want in GTA5 and DLCs...

Hi All, not very often I post on here any more, once again though I am, and as usual I'm going against what the vast majority of fans will say about GTA5 or any other game.

Personally although I enjoyed the DLC released by R* for GTA4, I don't thank them for popularising the concept of DLC. Although what R* released was good value unfortunately the rest of the gaming industy (not all of them but most) have used it as an excuse to hold back content and just another way to screw us for a bit more money, and a bit more money again, and again. When you look at what is included in most DLCs these days it's really quite poor in quality or value. As my example game I'm going to use Assassin's Creed series, I still kind of enjoy these games but as time has gone on and the rush of versions has come I feel less and less interested in it as a game.

I use it as an example because hopefully most people will know of the variety of editions that released each time, the codex edition, the black edition, white, and how they each offer the main game plus some extra content. Well personally I couldn't give a f*ck about a pretty statue of Ezio f*cking Auditore, or the making of dvd, your crappy attempt at making a AC movie, or most of the other junk that gets included for a serious jump in price. You can buy a standard edition of AC for about $80 AUD, some of these special editions get priced around the $110-$120 range, and when I look at what is included most of it adds absolutely nothing to the game itself.

Even the DLCs/In game content that gets provided, its 2 or 3 extra missions, an extra pair of pants for him to wear and extra boner to one of his stats (thats not a mistake) so you can cruise through what is already a seriously easy game.

So R* and fans of GTA, I don't want:

Statues of my GTA5 characters

A DVD making of GTA5

DVD of GTA5 movie

A poster of my characters

A book containing crap about the game, history of GTA, or any other BS you can think of

Now don't get me wrong folks, I'm not simply against this stuff because I personally don't like it and feel that even for the most hardcore fans they'll look at it while they're all excited for the first few weeks of ownership and then let it collect dust forever afterwards. No, its actually because what I really want from R* is for them to not bother with all this extra crap and spend time ensuring the game itself, that thing I'm intending to play has sh*t loads of useful content, no empty unused areas of the map, and simply concentrate on making the GAME.

All too often these days we as fans get given, and accept (not from R*) from most other developers is they design a game like AC with all the content they intend to release, they then chop bits out and sell it later. They spend money and time making crap that will in no way enhance the gaming experience and we end up with a game full of bugs and the only thing that has really changed from the previous version is slightly better graphics and a new story. WOW you managed to sell me the same game as before with extra spectacular specular lighting effects and lots of other technical graphics crap I wont even notice while slaughtering my targets. I am sure some will be arguing they need to have their brand new graphics card pushed closer to melting temperature, but you cant tell me that you'll really notice this stuff while actually playing. I'm sure at times you'll notice when you specifically spend time looking around the map to checkout how things have improved, but while ACTUALLY PLAYING and going through the missions you'll be concentrating on the mission itself and not stopping to notice the additional eye candy.

So R*, I want a game and I want that to be the focus, not all this other stuff we get in modern games.

You know you don't HAVE to buy Special Editions if you don't want to, some people enjoy that stuff, I like art books and soundtrack CD's but I know not everyone does.

Actually mate a soundtrack CD I would buy, in fact I was disappointed they never released a CD of the music from GTA4 as they did with VC, and SA.

You are correct I don't need to buy those special editions, but my point is more that sometimes it seems the game has become secondary to all this extra stuff. I just want to see more effort on the game and less on these extra toys.

i hope they make 2 storyline dlc's.

1 storyline where we play as a 20 something young korean mobster who does odd jobs for his leaders etc (no protag switching but maybe something similar/new)

and another storyline where we play as a group of 3-4 30 something car fanatics who enjoy illegal street racing and killing (protag switching, mostly during races)

I don't think we'll get 2 episodes because of how late it is in the generation however I can see them making a 4th protagonist who is an undercover cop possibly from a new island close to Los Santos that joins the crew and does jobs with the other 3 until he's in a position to take them down for good. You know how r* said having multiple playable characters gives them more room to experiment? This would be the perfect opportunity to try something controversial like a cop protagonist.

The special edition of GTA IV did come with a music cd from the in game sound track. I still have mine somewhere.

You mean like that other game Driver?? lol.

As for the music CD, yes I know it came with a CD that had a few tracks, but it was only the main theme song right?

As far as I understand it wasn't like the complete boxset CDs we got with VC and SA where a significant number of tracks were released in a 5 disc set. I have the ones from those games and thoroughly enjoyed them. I know in many cases you can get them as part of other 80s/90s CD sets but its just easier if you can get them all in one box and that way you know your getting the same version of a song as whats in the game.

I have managed to track down the vast majority of what I liked from GTA4 but in some cases its not the exact same version/mix.

Yeah, man, f*ck all that extra sh*t. I want everything in the game itself. And I try not to think too much about the DLC because I want to be suprised. If they release a Season Pass for GTA V, I'm going to buy it.

I'm not getting a Special Edition. The only game that had one that was actually worth buying was Red Dead Redemption's Game of the Year Edition.

Well don't get me wrong I am not totally against some DLC at some point. Just against DLC as provided by many other companies where its a pathetic little update that gives you a few extra clothes to wear. If you're going to give me DLC make it something worthwhile that really adds to the game.

If they do what they did in GTA4 and release what amounts to additional stories, I'll be happy. However I don't want a DLC with nothing more than a few extra clothes, just one more house to buy etc. Only add stuff that really enhances the game in some way. My ideas around DLCs would be more like give me a DLC that enables replying missions already completed. DLC that provides and extra hard AI that you can fight it out with once the story is over, so extra tough cops, gangs etc that goes beyond the level while playing the story.

That is one reason why I don't like DLCs. GTA Episodes From Liberty City was great, I mean it had two big add-ons that together counted as a new game and it was really great but since it wasn't profitable enough for Rockstar as it was mentioned in some articles a couple of years ago and since they even said they won't make add-ons of such a scale anymore, we shouldn't expect any DLC of that scale ever again. Strauss Zelnick hinted on the conference call in October last year that GTA V will have DLCs and to be honest, I don't expect anything big. It will be most likely one of those small DLCs that only contain a few weapons, clothes for the protagonists, some vehicles and that's it. I won't buy any of them if they are really as small as I expect.

What is the point of storyline DLC when you can already alternate between three characters whenever you want?

I like DLC. If it's something I don't want, I won't buy it. I don't care about collector's editions, because I don't buy them.

I get where people are coming from, but I never bought the argument about DLC. People think if the concept of DLC never existed, that extra content would just come with the game, but I've never believed that. Whether it's on the disc or not, developers intend for certain features to be extra. There's a market for extra content, so developers create extra content for that market.

I'm sure some developers are more shady than others, but for the most part, games seem like they have more included content then they had before DLC existed. That's just my opinion, and it's probably wrong, but I've never played a game and felt like something is missing. So when I buy DLC for that game, I feel like I'm just purchasing something extra.

Agree with OP.. It's so obvious with so many games that they are just selling you content which was clearly already made and chopped out of the base game.. Don't blame them, blame the people who buy it..

TBH i don't really want any DLC's, unless they are free of course because they should just put everything in the game so that there won't have to be any DLC.

I still use my keychain, lockbox, and shoulder bag from the GTA4 fancy edition. Statues and art books, I don't really care about, but practical items are fine by me.

I don't mind stuff like statues and books. That's what special editions are about - they have something extra, for fans who want it. The core game is still same.

What I'm worried about are pre-order exclusives and special edition DLCs. Okay, so R* at least usually releases pre-order content for everyone later, but then, I have to still pay extra money for it. For something what could have been in the full game at release.

I don't want GTA V to be plagued by pre-order DLCs and content cut out for DLCs after release. Yet, GTA V will most definitely have at least one of them. R* already had pre-order DLCs in L. A. Noire and RDR, maybe even MP3, but I'm not sure. All I hope for, is that those pre-order DLCs won't be anything more than outfits or vehicles. If they cut out missions or side-missions, then I'll be disappointed.

I can't stand DLC too, and I hope it goes nowhere near GTAV. It's just a marketing scheme, and a bad one at that. Rockstar pushed as much as they could have out of MP3, so I hope it isn't in GTAV.

It's so cheap for game developers to remove content/lock it, and then make you buy it. With a game like GTAV, DLC would be perfect if you look at a marketing point of view, but to many players, it's just annoying.

Special editions are quite pointless too, they add something that costs next to nothing to make, and then sell the game for $50 more. The only kind of pre-order I like is when you get a free extra, like what Rockstar did with getting a free poster.
