T0X1C
I've seen a lot of people saying that every building won't have an interior on this gen. Now, while I'm sure that every single building WON'T be accessible because that would take forever to do, I don't understand the idea that this gen can't handle it. Here's the "correct me if I'm wrong part:" Aren't interiors just normal map spaces with 4 walls and a roof? Is it really beyond this gen? The way I see it is that it's extremely easy to create the interior (just make walls and a roof, it's the decorating it that takes time. For example putting cooking pots in a kitchen or bottles on the shelf in a bar, etc. But how much harder is this to do than to decorate the outside areas of the game? The way I see it (with my limited knowledge), if Rockstar put in enough time they can make a hell of a lot of interiors without even pushing the boundaries of this gen. To me, the fact that they mentioned interiors when referring to the map size implies that there are tons of interiors. Then again a poster saying "Spring Release" implies a Spring release, so you never know with Rockstar. I hope there will be a decent amount, but with lots of diversity. GTA IV had quite a lot, but 80% were apartment blocks with the same layout. What are your expectations for interiors in GTA 5? And, if you think this gen can't handle many interiors, explain why. Deffpony
I dont think its a matter of the hardware alone, but also development time in adding so many interiors. Adding so many interiors would add alot of extra work, to honestly there reaches a point where too many interiors is just wasted space. I think that if 30% of buildings had interiors that would be more than enough
GroundZero
I'll explain you why this gen can't handle many interiors, it's because creating many interiors uses up a lot of disk space which could be very useful for other, more important things... It's not one of technical limitations but human limitations as far as conceptualizing, modeling, texturing and decorating interiors "for every building" - hence why I personally don't think every building in the game will have an interior. More precisely, yes, it certainly takes a lot longer to create interiors versus just the outside facade of a building.
Trund
It would be possible if interiors were dynamically created. But then comes in the hardware limitation, especially not enough RAM, and people wanting so much (see through windows, no load screens etc). Not to mention that most people wouldn't even make the use of that feature. It's better to have a limited amount of great interiors with lots to explore, than a nearly unlimited count with boredom in every corner.

I think realistically if every building had 100% interior in V it would be a waste. There would be alot of repeated interiors thus killing any sense of significance from building to building. And there would be so many building that you never entered just because there was no need. The only way I see that changing is if there was a serious overhaul in the wanted system and interiors became a much more important tactic

GTAIV had some special techniques and designs that took place to hide the dynamic loading of interiors from HDD into ram to be rendered on screen. Sometimes, on console, there would be a little lag going on for interiors to load up. I remember playing once and standing inside an empty room in one of the "underground" weapon stores for a couple of seconds. Most of the interiors didn't have windows in GTAIV. If they would to target EVERY interior in GTAV, it's going to be hard to design interiors for everything so, instead, like Trund said, have it limited because there's an obvious limited polygon budget and fill-rate on 8 year old console hardware. EDIT: To clarify, I think there will be overall more interiors in GTAV compared to IV - just that, not "every building" as the OP suggested. Baseball
Basically the issue here is quality over quantity. And I agree. There's no point in being able to access every interior in the game. That can't even be done in real life.
YoungChrist
The outside areas of a game have less objects. Plus this also essentially doubles the amount of areas that have to be rendered on screen.
BlackNoise
I just want more store and important/famous building interiors. Since there's no real or simulated population, I don 't think it really matters how many houses we can enter. Maybe one day it will be more like the new Sims game, with a million peds all living in the city, and then I think most interiors will need to be enterable. rad13579
honestly though if every building had interiors how many of them would you actually go in before you got bored, you walk on to a street with 100 houses are you really going to go i everyone? not likely! interiors are there for when they're needed thats it

But yes, this is never going to happen, not anytime soon anyway.
