MIKON8ERISBACK
http://www.foxnews.com/weather/2013/02/08/...r-winter-storm/ Areas of the Northeastern United States, including New York City are bracing for "blizzard like" conditions Friday. Schools across the Northeastern United States including Southern Ontario have cancelled buses or closed entirely. Panic buying (people rushing to the stores to stock up on supplies, you see it in the movies) has ensued and it is being said that this could be one for the record books. Taking a look at conditions where I am right now, temperatures are at about -7 degrees Celsius (19 degrees Fahrenheit) and so far several inches of snow have fallen on the ground with about 30 centimeters (nearly a foot of snow) forecast for later today with high winds and blowing snow. In simple words: blizzard conditions. Schools have been cancelled, millions will miss work, and warnings are dire. On the positive side, this gives me more time to do some work on a small assignment for school. If you live in a region affected by the storm, what's happening where you are and how are people behaving?

trip
I only get the tail end here...looks like under a foot for me. I also prefer my storms to happen during the week so as to get a day or two off from work. MIKON8ERISBACK
Taking a look at traffic cameras, conditions look very bad. It's not too often that the snow cover is so heavy that it leaves the highways looking as if they were abandoned and set aside like the side streets so often are. Many schools around the Greater Toronto Area have been closed entirely. *http://www.theweathernetwork.com/traffic_cameras/ *http://www.toronto.ca/rescu/index.htm

Ryan
Snowmgeddon for 20 to 30cm of snow and a bit of wind. You Ontario people... Meanwhile in Nova Scotia, depending on which weather forecast you check, we're supposed to get anywhere from 40 to 60cm along with 100km/h winds between tonight and tomorrow. I know - I say up there because I'm a few hours below you in Philadelphia. About to get hit, but not as bad as some of you up north. And doesn't everyone in your city run out and pick up milk, bread, and eggs at the threat of snow like down here? Oh ya, Everytime they forecast a big storm they scare everybody into running out and spending their money on generators, groceries, etc. the lines at the fast stations are ridiculous right now. But this storm is supposed to be bad, they're even comparing it to the blizzard of '78, which is stupid because it hasn't even hit yet.

Went to town yesterday and it was absolutely nuts. You'd swear the apocalypse was coming the way some of these people go about preparing for a snow storm. For us, they keep comparing it to White Juan which I don't understand since the only similarities is the path it's following. 40-60cm is nowhere close to the 100cm that storm brought. The grass is always greener . Don't forget that here on the east coast it isn't always beautiful white snow that can you can sled and have fun in. Most of the winter there is no snow but the cold temps and wind still have the ability to rip the flesh clear from your face. Sounds like heaven? WHAT!?
I'm in Michigan. I was supposed to get a foot of snow in my area, I woke up this morning to about four inches. Lame, but I work for a school and they figured it was enough to cancel everything for the day, so... Three day weekend!!

We had 80 cm to a meter of snow in the middle of the January and Schools were not closed, I/people did not miss job/s and traffic was running somehow normal. I had to walk a few times for a couple of km to the nearest bus stop, when the blizzard was at the top. But that was it.

fgcarva1
Yeah, unfortunately they didn't shut down the university here in TO so I had to walk out a couple of times. As someone originally from a tropical country I must say, I f*cking hate snow. Doesn't matter if an inch or more, it's never pleasant. But yeah, still kinda snowing. Yup, and violating the travel ban can land you with one year of imprisonment plus a $500 fine. That's not excessive, is it?
