Racecarlock
Think about everything you could do will all of the features we've been presented with so far. Trains, planes, possible cargo planes, ATVs, sports cars, scuba diving, pouring down gas trails to set on fire, submarines, and 3 protagonist switching. I will now present a small fraction of the possibilities when combining all of this. I use guy or guys for the rest of the suggestions instead of their names because you can put any of them in any position. -Firebomb and blow up a highway as trevor, then watch the ensuing car explosion chain reaction as michael or franklin. -Have one of the guys fly a plane under one of the other guys jumping a huge gap on an ATV. -"Convince" two of the guys to have a little mid air plane collision. -Surface in a submarine as one guy, then jump into the other guy as you fly directly at the submarine with an airplane. -Find a ramp near some sharks with a jetski, then jump said sharks while one of the other guys attempts to catch the jet ski on top of his plane. -Set a plane on fire and crash it into the ground, then look upon the aftermath as one of the other guys. -Start a police chase with one guy, follow said chase in another car with another guy to see what the first guy's AI does -Start a police chase with one guy while the other two follow in a helicopter with a sniper rifle and a rocket launcher. -Start a police chase then crash a plane into it with another guy. -Pour gas over a crowd and yourself in a mall, light it up, then switch to another guy to look upon the firey chaos. -Jump a bike over a chasm and attempt to hit the bike with a plane as one of the other guys. -Take 3 cars and start 3 separate chases, then converge on the same crazy canyon jump. -2 guys in a chopper and one in a plane, or two in a plane and one in a chopper, or all 3 in planes or choppers. There can only be one survivor. And possibly millions of more things that I didn't think of. Hell, list them in this topic if you come up with things as well. But largely, this is why I'm still excited and why the prospect of 3 guys to switch between got me more excited rather than less, since it's basically made the sheer crazy stunt possibilities practically endless. Think of what ben buja might be able to do with this. Think what you might be able to do with this. And I didn't even mention how replay-able the missions will become. Edit: sh*t, I forgot the trains. Let's see. -De-rail a train over a water filled canyon with a submarine right in the train's fall zone and then have a plane chasing the train that's heading towards the submarine and watch on as the 3 collide and explode in spectacular fashion. johnny_zoo
Doesn't each character go about their business automatically once you switch? So I don't see how some of those things can happen?
rare.steak
Doesn't each character go about their business automatically once you switch? So I don't see how some of those things can happen? Depends if they disappear from the game map or if the game constantly keeps them going from where you left off. I've no idea which it is, but seeing as it's the "very ambitious, very difficult, expensive, ultra bold and innovative" thing in GTA V I would expect it to work like the latter. poncratias
im curious if you can fap as one guy, while the other dances infront of you and the third is trying to buttrape a small chihwaua in the background

mdr279
I really like this topic because it shows that you can have fun when there is not stringent reqlism. I reall like your ideas, but I don think I would be able to come up with many because I often look to the landscape (obviously dont really know what it looks like yet) and see what I can do with the landscape with the vehicles I can get. I remember the first time I found by myself that you could glide a hovercraft off that building in LS in SA.

Dick Valor
My gut tells me the character switching mechanic won't be flexible enough to achieve many of the crazy antics you've suggested. Do you have any idea how hard it would be to manage jacking two planes and fly them into each other, constantly switching between two protags? As soon as you jack a plane as Michael and switch to Trevor, what are the odds that Michael will still be flying said plane? Or will he spawn at the nearest safehouse, bar, or country club? Until we know more, I'd say it's better to assume you won't be able to exploit the character switching mechanic with such precision and spare yourself unnecessary disappointment. Well hey, it's not about the brand of toothpaste Chop uses right? If they can make a topic about a dog death that they don't even know will happen, I can make this topic. Seriously, it's not fair. The chop death topic has 4 pages and I've got like 10 replies on this. I would think people would care about mayhem in GTA, but apparently chop's preferred brand of dog chow is more f*cking important.

It wasn't my intention to derail yours or rain on everyone's parade. I actually just enjoy speculating about how the character switch mechanic might work. That said, some of things you propose (while awesome) sound difficult to pull off. The protag AI won't be able to anticipate what we want to do, so it's gonna be like controlling something with a mind of its own. I'd love to get two planes to crash into each other and sky dive with two protags at once, but who knows what will actually happen trying to implement this. Will Michael continue flying the direction I want him to when I switch to Franklin? I'm really excited to find out...
Snake Without a Tongue
I don't see any of those things as being possible. Best case scenario, character switching will get us across the map quicker.
Dick Justice
Well, some of this stuff may actually be possible through the dreaded "hang-out" system that was so universally reviled in IV for no particular reason other than the calls annoyed people. We already know Michael can play tennis with Franklin for example, will we be able to character switch half-way through a game? Maybe. What about other hang-outs; going for a drive and just getting up to dual character mayhem could very well be possible. Also I read somewhere that when you zoom out to the map it shows where all three characters are. What's to stop you from going to exactly where the other protagonists are? Ahh I really wish I could come up with something. I feel bad because this thread has potential. Edit: I wonder if a head on train crash is possible to replicate with the character switching?? (just like in the trailer) Jetski jumps into chopper (kinda Die Hard 4 style) Edited February 9, 2013 by mdr279

I agree, I don't know if the A.I will be smart enough to pull it off, but I doubt they'll spawn somewhere else. I think once you switch out, the A.I will continue to fly the plane but may turn or even try its hardest to steer clear of your oncoming plane. What about other hang-outs; going for a drive and just getting up to dual character mayhem could very well be possible. Random, but I wonder if we'll be able to get the A.I to drive while we take shotgun and commit drive-bys on random people, that would be cool. Racecarlock
Maybe the AI will, maybe it won't. Maybe there'll be some kind of path drawing system or something. All I know is I care way more about what I can do with the trains than what I can do with the dog. Look, narrative is nice, characters are nice. But the biggest disappointments in IV stemmed from the fact that they replaced flying planes with bowling. Gambling got switched out with darts (Hey, playing chance games like roulette and slots and card games and stuff is fun because of the rush you get from risking money on random chance). Driving a monster truck or a camper off of a large mountain got replaced with a magic, juggling, and singing act that each have two and start to repeat after the 6th visit there. As for the comedy club, I have comedy central and youtube. I can easily look these guys up. I don't mind idle chatter and character development, but when, say, comparing IV with SR2, I would prefer recreating the crazy 88 scene from kill bill in the kanto connection in saints row 2 than taking my fat cousin bowling. That's the thing though. I guess I'm mad because some part of me has lost touch or has been out of touch for a long time with the community here. I remember this one thread I created about having working amusement parks in the game. I like amusement parks, and having some coasters complete with rotatable first person cameras would be awesome to me. But, people turned it down. Because apparently a criminal going to an amusement park seemed unrealistic or the park itself would be a waste of time to anyone who didn't use it. Then, about 2 days later, maybe less, a topic about fuel pops up. A topic about getting fuel at gas stations. What happens? Almost everyone in the thread loves the idea except for me and a few other guys. Fantastic. Because obviously a chore everyone hates in real life is going to work out so well in a criminal movie fantasy world such as this, right? You want proof of this? Here are the two threads. Amusement park: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=427478 Fuel: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=468266 So yeah, my idea is apparently f*cking useless even though I consider amusement parks a lot of fun. But apparently having to do a real life chore isn't useless. "It would be more realistic". "It would be more immersive". Because apparently escaping the real world full of chores is only done to do the same chores but in cyberspace or something. Sure, I could be joyfully prancing about the sky in a fighter jet, but there's gas to get. I could be riding a virtual roller coaster and having a fantastic time, but oh my goodness, this gas is so realistic! And now this game comes out and it has 3 character switching. I didn't even know I wanted that, but apparently rockstar is psychic. Because when I thought about it, switching between 3 dudes could create all sorts of opportunities for mayhem and destruction. But no. Even now, everyone is more interested in the f*cking dog. Will we play as him, will we have to walk him, will we have to feed him. Sure, submarines are now in the game which I would never have predicted but now salivate at the thought of, but everyone else is apparently wondering if they'll get the awesome exclusive privilege of cleaning up dog mess. Yeah, no one has actually made a topic on whether or not a feature based on cleaning up after the dog would be there yet, but it's apparently only a matter of time.
