twinkiller
kotaku.com/5982090/sandy-hooks-state-rep-proposes-a-sin-tax-on-m+rated-game This is really making me angry.Once again another lawmaker brings up violent games as the cause for violence in America. What if you are not religious? Should you be required to pay this tax? Good thing this is only in Connecticut, but this will only increase piracy of games and people will go to other states to buy their games. Well to you people living in Connecticut call this man and other lawmakers and advocate against this.

Trund
A sin tax? Really? But you could pretty much apply that to everything in life.
lil weasel
And, How about a 50% sales tax on Guns and Ammunition? 'We gonna' make the children safe, no matter what it costs.' But they won't put proper seats and seat belts in the school buses... Edited February 8, 2013 by lil weasel
018361
What a load of sh*te. A better idea is to tax the guns and ammo these idiots use to murder everyone. A tax for sin? I'm sorry, but last time I checked I had the right to believe whatever I wanted to believe, not the right to be a christian only. Plus the definitions of what actions are classified as a sin are different depending on who your asking. So it's a sin to buy a video game wherein you shoot a digital and nonexistent target, but not a sin when you shoot a physical target that is the shape and form of a fellow human? Violence surely couldn't be because of these idiots who glorify the use of guns because they see it as the last hope and symbol of our freedom or because some guy thought it would be cool to teach his mentally unstable son how to use a firearm and where to "shoot to kill " someone. I'm sorry, but these guys always using videogames as scapegoats are really getting on my nerves. It has to be the video-games causing murders for sure, not the violent, paranoid, untrusting, and unfriendly culture that our country has at all. @sivispacem Maybe the mods can merge all of them and call it the " stupid Americans using video games as a scapegoat " thread Edited February 8, 2013 by 018361
lil weasel
Religion has nothing to do with a 'sin' tax nowadays. The term 'Sin Tax' means taxing an item to make it expensive for a person to use the item. Alcohol and Cigarettes already have 'sin' taxes, as well as Gasoline/Diesel. You might be suprised to know that Movie Theatre also has a hidden tax. Every performance has to pay a tax on every seat in the house occupied or not. That's why a standing room only (SRO) is such a big deal.

sivispacem
Can't we keep this kind of thing to one of the three already existing topics that discuss it, rather than making a new one every time an individual state nutter proposes something stupid? Lock n' Stock
People who blame violence crime on video games are f*cking stupid and need to get a grip. More than a dozen people are murdered in the United States EVERY day, most if not none of which are under the influence of violent video games. Infact if I'm not mistaken, the homicide rate was highest in the late 80s and early 90s when video games weren't half as violent as they are today (unless Mortal Kombat and Doom count).
