Sanjiswaytocool
I'm tired as f*** so excuse me if this ends up being unorganized, but whatever. Just last night after work, I fired up the console for the first time in months and played GTA IV for the hell of it. It just occurred to me on how detailed and immersive the city was. From the activities, to the interiors, Liberty City had plenty to offer. Let's look at what IV had to offer (From all versions, from the top of my head); Hospitals, Car Dealerships, Factories, Warehouses, numerous Apartments & Projects, A Museum, Bowling Alleys, Bars & Nightclubs, Strip Clubs, Golfing Range, Car Washes, Pay N Spray, Internet Cafe's, Heli Tours, Clothing Stores, Gun Stores, Burger Shot, Cluckin' Bell, Super Star Cafe's, Diners, Triathlons, Banks, Lost MC Club, Comedy Clubs, Drug Wars, Darts, Pool, QUB3D. Still impressive to this day. But now, we have Los Santos. A city roughly the size of Liberty City (Thanks to the people from the Mapping thread!). A question still lingers around, "What the hell can we do there?". We've only seen/heard small parts of this functioning city, A Full Golfing Range, a Nightclub, Yoga, Jet Skiing, Jewelry Stores, a Stadium, Del Perro Pier, Vespucci Beach & Stores, IAA Building, FIB Building, Base Jumping, 24-7 convenient stores, & Up-N-Atoms (In-N-Out is a staple of California, to not have at least one interior would be kinda sad ). I understand that we've barely seen enough of this game and it looks great so far, but how much more to the city will there be? I honestly think that they'll be something on damn near every road, which sounds drastic and too good to be true. But look at IV, if Rockstar would've added more interiors/activities instead of those recycled Apartments & Projects. It would've been even more immersive. Just my two cents. Please discuss. Adriaan
I think you're right about more interiors! To get to the map size comparison that they mentioned, there surely must be a lot of interiors. In fact, Aaron included interiors specifically in the size comparison in Game Informer. LibertyKing
I always wondered if they added Rotterdam Tower later in production. They've been like " OMFG we forgot the Empire State... We're so screwed" After this, they added Rotterdam Tower in the most f*cked up location they could ever find, and that would be the reason why it's location makes no sense. I'm so sorry, I've gone crazy on that.

Anyway, I felt sick of IV after a while. Sure the buildings have different architecture, but they all felt like nothing but repetitive back-drops to me. I'm hoping for more interiors this time around, hopefully more varied than the cut-and-paste apartments. That kind of happened in LA Noire, but it was within a mission structure. That being said I think Rockstar are going to be going all out with V and we can definitely expect scenarios like that! (Late night post, newborn is up....FML) Anyway, I hope I'm right on interiors ! Hearing "...with room to spare" Really got me hyped for this. Plus, I think we'll actually see some more variety this time around (I'm hoping this is an outlet in the pic below, the signs and the restaurant just scream outlet to me). We've got some new restaurants (Up-N-Atom, and there was another one mentioned in on the info articles "Lucky Shack something".) And I wonder if we'll see a Mr. Fuk's Rice Box, or something similar, in Little Seoul. Is this an outlet across the street to the left?

There is evidence of the running in the house, or at least climb through part, in the first trailer, when the black dude is hammering a for sale sign and the window to his house is open an the curtains flapping! Algonquin Assassin
Whenever I play GTA IV just strolling through the streets I have to remind myself it was made in 2008. LC was and still is actually one of the most well designed cities I've experiened in a video game. IMO the bar was set pretty high with LC. It's going to be interesting to see how much better LS is. Though I've always felt more partial towards NYC than LA.

The city seemed huge and varying in detail, the buildings looked great, the landscape was beautiful. And I lived with that impression for 2 or 3 years, when one day I popped the disc in and the game just wasn't the same any more. The buildings looked worse and the city, which was once filled with detail and variety became filled with similar looking NPCs sitting next to each other. What changed the way I saw the game was playing other games with better graphics, even RDR. I'm guessing that's how I'll feel about GTAV too. I'll enjoy it a lot for the first 2-3 years, then it'll seem kind of dull. Still, it's a big deal for a game to last 3 years or so in my enjoyment. Kifflom112
Anyway, I felt sick of IV after a while. Sure the buildings have different architecture, but they all felt like nothing but repetitive back-drops to me. I'm hoping for more interiors this time around, hopefully more varied than the cut-and-paste apartments. I'm pretty sure if you were into architecture you wouldn't be saying that. I've noticed that there are tons of diverse buildings in this game and a lot of them are interesting. They're not just "cut and past apartments". They're not. Every street there is something different. People just think it all looks the same because they don't like concrete jungles or something 'depressing'. I hope V is as diverse as IV was, and IV was very diverse as a matter of fact. Like I said many just ignore it, which irks me at times... @the guy talking about the Rotterdam Tower: They added it there because this isn't NY it's LC. Things were mixed around. Notice how the Metlife Building, Chrysler Building, and most of the buildings at the southern end of Algonquin are mixed around? OT: Yeah I'm pretty excited for V, I hope we get more interiors. IMO, all IV needed was more interiors. I mean how could you build this nice NY environment and only make a tiny bit of interiors? It's ridiculous. Shoulda' been more penthouses, lobbies, restaurants, etc... @Miami I agree. Funny thing is I didn't start slowing down and really exploring LC until last year or so. But like I mentioned in the ENB thread, Rockstar made some great textures and unfortunately these are only noticeable with mods. Look at this picture, for example, I wouldn't have noticed this great texture design on the console version..
Baseball
@Miamivicecity, sibs44: Sure the game is still enjoyable on some level after all these years, and the city does sometimes still look great. But you start noticing a lot of flaws, like when the windows on the buildings aren't there until you close in on them. But obviously, stuff like that doesn't affect the gameplay or the storyline. San Andreas' graphics were much worse and it's one of the best games I ever played.
œaœa
@Baseball yeah I know what you mean, but Rockstar said the draw distance has improved a lot so we'll see. I think people will be playing V like they play SA today.
