Paper Mario
I was rewatching the trailers and sometimes I see bushes, trees and other nature stuff that is flat and just crossed over eachother like the trees in IV. I hoped it was better than RDR, because that nature looked damn gorgeous! But seeing those trailers make me worry a little... What do you think? Will the nature look better than RDR? TheWetPartoftheArm
Doesn't look anywhere near as bad as the trees in IV, which basically looked like green candy floss most of the time. Looks a lot more realistic in V, in my opinion, though not perfect. RDR had a lot less on the map to render so it's understandable that they were able to put more detail into things such as trees and grass.
residenteviloutbreak
you mean LOD? Whats shown in trailers is not the final product. it will get better. Look at the first GTA IV trailer and compare the trailer to the final game.

BlackNoise
It will be better than IV, but not RDR. There's just so much sh*t in GTA V. There was a lot less going on in RDR(less buildings, peds, vehicles etc)

K-Malo94
I hope it will look better. they do have 7 more months (or possibly more) to polish every thing up.

pVuyc
LOD gets higher when you move closer. At long distance, trees look like cardboards in almost every game.
grope_4_that_date
I think it will look just as good and that's really fine with me, because GTAV is more than RDR. It has buildings at a lot much more to it. We shouldn't expect more than RDR.
JonRenemy
Definitely already looks better than IV from the trailers.. I don't see the panic. It's not going to ruin the fun of the game. I hate this trees and bushes talk. For all we know they might implement the Battlefield 3 "HD resolution pack" option for GTA V. Anyone that doesn't know what that is.. it was an extra installable set of graphics for the game on Xbox 360 which allowed the textures to be A LOT better than without installing it. Miss Darko
LOD gets higher when you move closer. At long distance, trees look like cardboards in almost every game. That's definitely the main cause of the issues people are having with the look of the game in general. In screenshots and in the trailers where people are up close to things (but not too up close, heh), they look a lot better because, well, that's how LOD works. The first aspect of LOD will be the map itself, the basic, low-poly terrain map. That's why you'll be able to see the far away mountains from downtown if you're high up enough, even though some of the other buildings closer by will not have even appeared yet. That very basic terrain map will always be there, but it won't have anything on it except for a low-resolution texture. That's how these open world games manage to draw these huge maps, by not having it all shown at once, but rather one bit at a time, in varying levels of detail as you get closer and further away to objects, first popping into existence and then going through several stages of detail. The trees and shrubs look really good up close. We've all seen the first trailer, which has a shot closest to those tall trees we've seen so far (without a bunch of blur on them), and they look pretty nice and realistic. But further away, foliage very quickly devolves into its lower quality versions (obviously I haven't played the game, I'm just going by RDR here, since it makes sense that it work about the same), since they're fairly graphically intensive objects in their highest quality, or at least you'd imagine they would be, what with their complex shapes. RDR itself has a fairly interesting approach to LOD, in that it never really stops getting higher, as you get really close to stuff. Like how within a few feet of some crates, they'll start drawing shadows on the parts that stick out, but again, only if you're within a few feet of them, and even as you pass them by and they go past your screen, you see the shadow get more and more sharp. I'm not sure, but I think GTA V will take a similar approach, like how the shadows below a tree will start out slightly blurry looking but then show all the detail of the leaves casting their shadows on the ground as you get close, you'll even see the sphere of influence going outward from the camera where the engine tells the shadows to become more detailed. You'll just have to deal with imperfections like these. One day LOD will just be an archaic technique used to hide the limitations of a videogame due to primitive hardware, but for now it's a fact of life (or rather, videogames). GTA5isntAMYTH
thats prolly what there polishing the country side and some of the city anyone else hear that their putting cougars bears and eagls in?? like RDR we might be jumped by cougars lol
EvilFuture
I think it looks just fine. What pisses me off is when people look at the trees and bushes and say "that looks like a f*cking ps2 game. those bushes look like pure sh*t!" Well, I'm pretty sure we aren't playing the game to admire how pretty the bushes and trees are, are we?
RIKOSHAY
I saw this screen the other day again and I was looking at the bushes and trees off to the left, and they don't look that good. Hopefully it'll be improved on.
