residenteviloutbreak
Ive got this PC: Intel Core 2 Duo 8GB Ram 1GB ATI Radeon HD 5770 with HDMI Out And my motherboard is a FOXCONN G41MXE So... I can max on alot of the games i have, besides GTA IV. I know the processor is an issue, however im not wanting to change that, as i will have to replace the board and reinstall windows as well. So is it possible that a new video card would substitute replacing the processor? Or should i just keep the card and replace the processor anyways... yoječ
Depends what Core 2 Duo is it exactly. If it's one of the cheap models, then there's no point in changing the GPU.

Trund
I think you'd be wasting money if you would get a new GFX with this CPU. It would only make sense if you'd also upgrade the CPU to something like the Q9550 (a very awesome quadcore), as newer models will not work anymore with your mainboard. But with the CPU you posted I wouldn't do it.
yoječ
As above - not much point in changing the GPU. I wouldn't go for Q9550 either - they're ridiculously expensive.
Trund
You're damn right yojo2. I have no clue why they are still so expensive. I still have one laying around here because the mainboard for it broke, but when I got it 3-4 years ago (I think), it was nearly the same price as it is now. Really have to get rid of it while it's still worth something.
residenteviloutbreak
So my board will support what chips exactly? I seen Core 2 Duo and Quad. What should i do? What would be cheapest? Buy a new board and chip? Or use this board and just buy a new supported chip.
Trund
It's all a question of money really. You could either upgrade the CPU (which I don't recommend), or buy a new mainboard + CPU, which probably will be more expensive though. It doesn't have necessarily be so expensive though, for example I bought my i5-2500k + mainboard + sound card (all RMA hardware) for only 200€ on ebay, and that was over a half year ago. Another option would be to wait, if you can and are willing to. Since Intel might release a new CPU generation (Haswell) this year. The problem here is that it will run on the new 1150 Socket, which means if you buy a current-gen CPU you would need to replace the mainboard again in case you decide to buy the new-gen CPU. It's a tough decision really. If you're not in a hurry you could just wait a little bit and see what happens.
Stinky12
Here are the cheapest used Quad Core I can find for socket 775. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00...&condition=used But we will need to know what motherboard you have to see if it's supported or not. If you want to change to the most current, then it's the board, CPU, and RAM. Them Q9450 and up is still like $300 as the reason, no one is buying them so they never bother changing the price.
