MWDJ1992 Posted February 4, 2013 Share Posted February 4, 2013 "polishing" a video game is about stability, performance and smoothing out rough edges, so GTA:V in it`s current state is finished, but it has major stability & performance issues, i say major because R* can`t fix them in time for the original MAY release, which is 4 months, that should be ample enough time to fix any minor performance issues, but they have pushed back the game to September, adding another 4 months on top of the 4 months they had, so they now have 8 months for "a little more polish", it`s obvious that it`s alot more serious than just "a little more polish" doesnt take a genius to work that out, maybe they were overly ambitious & current gen consoles can`t handle what R* have thrown @ them, anyways let`s hope they can fix whatever problems they have encountered, they have 8 months. I do believe that the game is too big, ambitious and beautiful for the current-gens to handle. I know the demo that GI and IGN SAW (not played) was on Ps3 but that was a demo... not a finished product. Couple of factors to consider with this arguement: 360 still uses DVD discs... how many do you think? and R* STILL can't nail down the multiplayer issues with MaxPayne3 and PSN. Personally, I think the problem lies with PSN and the RSC online functions not syncing properly. Both 360 and PC have hardly any bugs or online issues at this time. I doubt what they meant with "polishing" is like polishing off a car or kitchen counter top in the real world. To them it probably means something entirely different in a video game development environment. That message came direct from the development team... and didn't have any PR spin to it. The press release simply stated "additional development time". And again, I doubt they meant "we need 8 months to polish the game". They probably looked at it and thought "sh*t, we have all these features we want to add, all these things in multiplayer that's going to take a sh*t load of time to code when you have to battle against network induced lag. We're already working 7 days a week, often till 4-5am in the morning... it's going to be stressful to meet this in time and still have time to polish off the game. So let's add an additional 4 months to focus on polishing off the game once we added all these things we had planned adding between now and May". Like seriously, that 7 days a week thing is actually true. They probably thought that if you overwork people, that impacts the quality at the end of the day. Rather add 4 months and improve the quality of the people actually working on the game, which in turn improves the quality of the actual game. At least, that's the way I see it. I think Rockstar have gave themselves a mountain to climb with their ambitious aims to re-invent multiplayer, I'm happy that they have such ambition to make a game perfect that they are willing to delay, go back on their word and disappoint a few people, just to create something perfect for us patient fans. Even with a more advanced engine, they're dealing with their most ambitious and advanced game yet on machines that still use DirectX9 and have very small amounts of RAM. The game is about 85-90% done for sure. I think they're just trying to optimize and stabilize everything. They knew the game wouldn't be finished by May. It's somewhat honest, because of course they'll add more polish with more time, but why would they set a specific date for more polish? Wouldn't it make more sense to just polish it until they're satisfied and then come up with a date? How the f*ck do they know exactly how many days of polish is required? The delay is for something else and I wish I knew what it was. "a little more polish" is something developers say because they know it's the most positive sounding reason for a delay. I think even if Rockstar works out everything they want before the release date, they will still take the time up to 9.17 to make the game the best possible one that they can, which is definitely a good thing.
