Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

My usual opening tactic of mashing every button in battle is getting me killed, that's proof enough for me that there's a learning curve that I have to go through to get the best out of the combat. To me that means it isn't dumb, but requires some thought and skill.

Firing it up now for a couple of hours play. Still in Havana, and I can't wait to get on the open seas.

There is no thought or skill required, aim the analog stick in the direction of the thing you wish to eviscerate, press square repeatedly until said thing is eviscerated, if attacked press circle to counter and then square to remove the thing that attacked you from existence.

Sounds boring. Never tried it before.

I'd rather f*ck around with different tools and weapon types rather than button mash, myself.

Is it worth buying now or should I wait until christmas and get it on the new xbox.

I also would like to hear an opinion on this.

A valid question and I would piggy-bakck onto this and ask, is it worth buying or just renting?

Same here, I was just about to ask. I'm more interested in the open world genre so out of all next gen launch titles I'm guessing this would be recommended?

Here is a comparison video between X360 and PS4!

Long story short : There is no significant difference between current gen and next gen. A major advantage on next gen is the view distance is greatly improved compared to current gen, which are covered by fogs. Other than that, there is no other major differences (i.e it's a sh*tty port).

You mean a port from current to next gen?

So it's been upgraded for next gen, not downgraded for current gen?

Wow, really why bother with next gen right now?

there's no reason to wait for 'next-gen' with AC4.

the only thing I'm waiting for is a PC release.

I've finally had the chance to play Black Flag a little on PS3 and it's only made me want it more.

everything about it really looks great so far. I don't care for the 'future' storyline but I never did anyway. the game world is HUGE, there's TONS of sh*t to do, and it looks gorgeous. I always enjoyed the naval combat in AC3 too so Black Flag is a winner in my book. especially since the naval combat and land combat are seamless. the only time the game has to stop and load is during the transition between World map and large cities.

Slight differences, you notice all foliage like plants and trees look alot better on PS4.

I've been a fan since the start, 3 left a bad taste in my mouth but this is getting good reviews, and people on this forum don't beat around the bush, so they're all pretty legit.

I think I may have to get it after all.

For 360 ofcourse.

Seems like the have titled it Black Flag because there will be a series kind of like Ezios.

A "Kenway" trilogy, perhaps? Don't know where they could go after Edward, though.

It all but confirms that they're a part of the same universe, I mean Blume wants Abstergo's help and that French dude goes missing in Chicago a few hours into the campaign. It just reeks of potential crossover, and at this point, it'd be absurd if Ubisoft wasn't planning to capitalise on this.

I'm calling it now, Aiden Pierce's motives will, in some way align with the Assassins' and they'll probably end up working together in the next few Watch_Dogs and AC games.

What about the "erudito collective"? Those hackers that want everyone to know the truth about abstergo.

I hope there is a mission in WD where Aiden kidnaps Olivier (the French Canadian templar) and hand him over to the assassins. It would be epic. :D

So far, I have hacked 32 out of 33 of the computers so far, but the last one is near impossible.

I still don't see it as anything other than clever references or Easter Eggs.

I'm not sure it really means that they're going to crossover and become a new franchise.

lots of game developers drop hints to their other titles in games that aren't actually related.

it's just there for their fans to notice and enjoy. it doesn't necessarily mean that the games all occur in the same universe.

Is the story aspect stronger than Assassin's Creed III's?

I mean, all I saw in Assassin's Creed III was revenge and hatred in Connor's eyes, which I kind of disliked as it drifted away from Assassin's Creed II's main plot, which is the destruction of Templars, if I am not wrong? Long time since I played.

Edward is initially very greedy, for the vast amount of money in the new world. But as the story progresses, the story is about assassins Vs the templars, both of them are fighting each other

in search of a first civ artifact.

Thank you Los Santos Police Department, I don't want to open the spoilers for obvious reasons.

I'm glad that the story aspect changed.

I think thats part of the draw for me. It would appear, from what I've read, that Edward is more indifferent to the cause and has his own agenda...at least in the beginning.

Well tbh from what I remember, Ezio started his mission on eliminating the templars after what happened to his brother and father so from my point of view, he did it out of revenge and hatred too although of course it went a little diffrent for both of them.

This. Ezio was purely out for revenge throughout most of the second game until right at the end of the game when he was initiated. The people who keep saying AC II's story is amazing and AC III's sucked must be blind or something.

I think most people just prefer Ezio over Connor rather than the games themselves. Ezio, being the playboy sarcastic assassin and Connor, being more the silent and reserved assassin. I judge each assassin as how well they play out in their story, rather than how they act versus each other. So far, for each one that I've played, I like each one for different reasons.

Same.

When you look at it, Connor is much more of a "tortured soul" compared to Ezio.

***ASSASSIN'S CREED II AND ASSASSIN'S CREED III SPOILERS AHEAD***

Ezio grew up with a noble, wealthy family. Surrounded by two brothers, a sister and a mother and father. Largely a caring, loving family with a history with the Creed. This family was taken from him at a young age, yes. Seventeen, was it? I forgot.

However, after this tragedy. He still had two very, VERY valuable people in his life. His own mother and his sister. Even after that, he found Mario and many of his other allies that guided him to learn from himself and become this wise, nobleman-turned assassin (and eventually Mentor) that we all know now.

Ratonhnhaké:ton grew up knowing only his mother and fellow natives in the settlement. All he truly had was his mother. And that was taken from him when he was around, what, nine? Ten?

All he knew at his young age was the abuse of someone like Charles Lee and the pain of seeing his own mother die as he is dragged away. Helpless. Powerless. Unable to do anything.

Yet he carried on. He met Achilles. The only real father figure he ever had. Soon after, he discovered his father was alive. A hope awakened within him. A hope to start over with him. To win him over to the cause and to finally live as father and son.

But that was crushed brutally by Haytham's pure cold and stiff nature. Unwilling to drop the rules and requirements of a cabal to reunite with a son who only had him left as his one and only hope for a real family.

Finally, in that final confrontation, Connor was forced to kill his own father. The father that choked him on the ground as he belittled and humiliated him.

All that Connor hoped to do. To repair, to reunite with his only parent. Gone. Now think of the mental consequences of THAT. Not to mention the death of Achilles.

By no means is this some kind of excuse for possible "poor" character development. I think Connor was a good character. Yes, boring at times. But wise. Shaped by the scars that he had to endure throughout his younger life as an outcast and outsider.

Creed Bratton

OK. This is the best Assassin's Creed game since Assassin's Creed 2. They managed to completely reinvent the series whilst keeping the core elements intact or improving them. The story so far seems intriguing. Can't wait to see how

Edward becomes an Assassin. I know he will because I've read AC: Forsaken

I finally picked this up and, although only about 6-7 main missions in, I'm loving it. I've mostly been going around pillaging ships for loot and finding treasure. I definitely feel like you are rewarded more for exploring in this installment.

Also enjoyed

how "cool" edward played it while being inducted into the Templar Order.

Anyone got the PC version yet? If so, how's the performance? Did Ubisoft actually make a good port this time?

no one has the PC version unless they got it illegally.

people who pre-ordered it (like me) should have it in their mailbox tomorrow (Tuesday) or sometime this week because the official release date is Nov 19 for North America.

I'll have my copy tomorrow or Wednesday but I've already played Black Flag for a couple hours on PS3.

assuming the PC version isn't just a terrible port, it will definitely be the best AC game in years and maybe one of the best PC titles of 2013.

I already know that Black Flag is great.

now I just want to see how much better it looks on my computer since it's about 3 times as powerful as any console.

Great, let us know how the PC version is once you get it. I'm very impressed by Black Flag, my only gripe is that previous PC versions of AC have never been good ports. That's the only reason why I haven't preordered it.
