mobe
There won't be much of a shortage this time around. Certainly not like last time anyway. Both consoles are being made with off the shelf parts, there's nothing technically difficult about what they're making like there was last time. Launch shortages are done on purpose. Your grandmother turns on FOX or CNN and sees "Lines out the door for the new Xbox!" And, "It's so hard to get one, but if you can, your kids will love you forever!" Now they're talking about it on Good Morning America. Demand goes through the roof. It happens every time. Thats true enough but there's a difference between a managed shortage and an actual shortage. Sony had a massive problem last gen with Blu-Ray diodes and low production yields on cell processors. They'll meet the genuine demand this time around I think.
uradeadman
I have an idea that may not be fully thought out but Isint it a plausible idea that the PS4 and XBOX 720 will be backwards compatible, so if that is true. Sony and Microsoft will deal a bigger profit to Rockstar if it will help sell the new console. Its the perfect game to transition to a new console considering its mass appeal. If this is stupid here is some louie ck to help your mind forget Edited February 5, 2013 by uradeadman

BlackNoise
EVERY home has a 360 or PS3. In 2013, almost NO homes will have a 720 or PS4. Millions of pre-orders have been sold to people who own 360 and PS3. The vast, overwhelming majority of these people will NOT be purchasing a PS4 or 720 at any time this year or next. I think this is the point. If a new console could launch with GTA V, it would definitely increase the amount of people who purchase it(next gen). And preorders don't mean anything. It's why the numbers are still pretty low. I've bailed on preorders before, and they just will refund your money, put it on a gift card, or you could just exchange for something else. I'm not saying this will happen, but what you're talking about is exactly why Sony and/or Microsoft might be planning something like this with TTWO/R*. One of the main reasons new consoles struggle is a lack of quality launch titles, and GTA V would fix this problem. Customers will probably have the option of a subsidized subscription deal when purchasing next-gen consoles, which would also increase sales. I don't think ONE game can push sales that much. The average consumer is not going to shell out $300+ and then $59.95 just to play ONE GAME. Get real people its. Its not smart business practice. Its not economically viable Also, We all know that there will be a "shortage" of consoles when they launch. Anyone still arguing for V on next gen is fooling themselves. @blacknoise: Selling pre-orders is the name of the game pre-launch. They've succeeded in selling millions of them to PS3/360 owners. You really think that they're gonna throw all of those pre-orders away based on a few people possibly buying new consoles? V will be one of the best selling games of all time, with possibly the biggest launch week ever. That only happens with 360/PS3. The problem with this argument is many of you seem to be looking at this as an "either or/black or white" issue. The game is coming out on PS3 and 360. Nobody is arguing that. Some people(like myself) also think we might see it on PS4 and/or 720. This is mutually beneficial for both parties. The main question is when will the next gen consoles be released? We'll see the next gen consoles before GTA V even releases. This has never happened with GTA before(it happened with Bully). It will most likely affect GTA V sales negatively if next gen launches before, during, or close to GTA V's launch if there is no next gen version in the works. It's just the way this stuff works. Next gen looks so much better and many people just move on and don't look back
gtafan023
not possible Rockstar already debunked this not to mention buying a new console for a game?sure its GTA,one of the biggest game in the history, but are you seriously thinking Rockstar delay just to change the game to next gen?while they already have TONS OF POTENTIAL BUYERS for this gen? come on guys a port is likely, but cancel this gen GTA V just to make exclusive next gen game? nope but yea,as the other user said,GTA V is definitely going for this gen,a port is possible or next gen,but canceling the making of GTA V for this gen is IMPOSSIBLE,they would lose a ton of sales
mdr279
This topic is just ridiculous now. It not a plausible theory to start with and Rockstar just debunked it. japse123
Do people actually think that it won't be released on the PS3/XBox 360? Do you know the amount of refunds that would need to be dished out with just pre orders alone? Not to mention that they have come out and said they wanted to push the limits with the PS3/XBox 360 platforms? Let's not get carried away. No one thinks that. People think that it might be released for both gens. People thought that with SA too... "Ooo next gen is sooo close, SA will be for both" or "They will remake SA for ps3 and 360 (both were on the cusp of being announced, like now)". What really happened was SA came for Xbox and PS2... then 360 and PS3 came out, then years later GTA IV come out on the new systems. I cant see this being any different. Are people forgetting that when a new console drops, the first 6months/year is CRAP in terms of titles to buy. Either that or the majority of people here were like 5 when all the above happened and this is their first "Next gen" experience... I dont get why people say ¨this was crap earlier, that means it has to be crap now to¨ Maybe the first months is crap in teamrs of game releases but we dont know. I don't think anybody is saying they know for sure. Both sides are just speculating. People always speculate before we get a shred of evidence, because what's the point of speculating once we know for sure? It's all based on rumors and most of the rumors I've seen from "insiders" or "sources close to..." believe Sony is launching their next console right before the holidays. If this is true, it's a first time a GTA game has ever released so close to a new console. I don't think it's fair to say "People pulled the idea out of thin air". Just look when this topic was started. People knew about next gen consoles possibly releasing in 2013 for awhile now, but this discussion didn't start until R* delayed the game shortly after they gave us a spring release window. This is more about R* than anything else. Sony's press conference makes it more interesting, but it's still R* who got us thinking more about a possible next gen version of GTA V. And why do people keep saying R* debunked this? They didn't. The only way they can debunk this is if they say it's not releasing for next gen consoles. And if you're gonna say they debunked this theory/rumor, then show proof. Otherwise, this is just a friendly discussion with both sides speculating until we know more. There's not enough evidence either way.

There is no evidence that V will be a next gen game. What are you talking about? This is a "will or won't" discussion about whether or not GTA V will be on next gen consoles. Too many people(including myself several times) have said GTA V is definitely a 360/PS3 game. You literally quoted my comment a couple posts ago where I typed this. I thought I made it clear enough... The game is coming out on PS3 and 360. Nobody is arguing that. Some people(like myself) also think we might see it on PS4 and/or 720. Here's a better way to put your comment... There's not enough evidence either way. There is overwhelming evidence that V will only release for 360/PS3. There is no evidence that V will be a next gen game. But that would be factually incorrect. At least it would be a more fair way to argue my point, instead of quoting me out of context. Ice1980
Regarding GTA V on the Next-Gen, It's very possible! No, is not. Not gonna happen, sorry. Based on what? While I admit there is no evidence that suggests a GTA V release on a PS4/720, we can't rule out the possibility. I do find it rather coincidence that the same day R* delayed GTA V to September, Sony teased the world with a video suggesting seeing the future now, possibly hinting at a PS4. The last time they had a meeting it was for the PS Vita. I just find it odd that it both happened the same day. Though the delay and teaser are by no means related, it does beg the question could the delay of GTA V be next-gen related? "The answer is YES!.." I'm not talking about GTA V being built from the ground up to run on the PS4/720, though maybe they I don't know, I just mean that If I buy GTA V for my Xbox, it will run on the 720 aswell. Deffpony
Im quoting my post in another thread to help spread knowledge and decrease the idiotic notion of a next gen delay reasoning: Before I go any further I need your full attention. Turn off the tv in the other room, close your windows, secure any running water, and close out of any other tabs open in your browser. Good??? Ok... Rockstar did not wake up on Jan 30th and say "sh*t, we have to delay V, I guess Sept will do... lets just pick a random day" They have been internally discussing the fact that they were struggling to meet their own deadlines and Im sure over the course of at least a month they began to assess the need for a delay. The reason there is a set date rather than just a time frame is that by delaying the game 4 months it gives them ample time to complete the project. Rather than knowing that they were going to be cutting it close, as was the case with a Spring release, they are certain that the 4 month delay will give them enough time. So they carefully analyzed their current progress on development, the future projection of development time needed, and other important information related to meeting a deadline, in order to conclude that Sept 17 will be the right date for a release. This game has been worked on for at least 3+ years as a PS3/360/PC? title. The thought of them going back and backtracking all their development so they can release the game as a next gen title in about a year(if not more) would be more harm than help. The last game that Rockstar released was Max Payne last year. MP3 was not as lucrative as they would have hoped so you can bet that they want to get V out sooner than later. Sitting on a game that is ready rather than releasing it only make the title that much more "dated" and obsolete. Not too mention you are sitting on potential money that could be making up for development costs. As stated in many other threads, the amount of PS3 and 360 owners is almost triple that of when GTA IV was released. That is three times as many potential customers than with IV. Next gen systems take about 1-2 years to gain enough momentum to a primary console for most gamers. This is due to the cost of a new system as well as attachment to titles on the last gen hardware. Releasing GTA V on next gen would increase the price of GTA V from $60 to $60+ the console costs as well ($460?) All of these concrete facts negate the ridiculous notion that GTA V has been delayed so it can become a next gen title, and furthermore makes the argument that R* lied to us and is still lying to us completely void. Have a nice day

Untill then, it's all speculation, full price at launch or subscription:) My only notion is that GTA V could be ported, not cancelled on the current systems to be built for next-gen, just delayed to work with the next-gen so it could run, there might be a seperate team that is handeling the porting, while others are working hard to finish polishing/bugging etc Edited February 5, 2013 by Ice1980

Have a nice day Unless a new console price in this case the next xbox, will be $199, plus a 2 year agreement for Xbox live???? That is a possibility too may i add. That would allow more buyers. Untill then, it's all speculation, full price at launch or subscription:) My only notion is that GTA V could be ported, not cancelled on the current systems to be built for next-gen, just delayed to work with the next-gen so it could run, there might be a seperate team that is handeling the porting, while others are working hard to finish polishing/bugging etc No. Nope. Stop. Enough. It's been buried. This has nothing to do with next gen. If you're lucky, the next gen consoles will be backwards compatible. End of story.
