The Conspiracy Theory thread

HOW'S ANNIE?

With the ever emerging presence of these conspiracy theory threads, I thought it may be easier to just simply make a thread dedicated specifically to conspiracy theories.

Feel free to discus everything from Area 51, The Illuminati to New World Order.

And please be respectful to other users, just because they beleive in something you don't it doesn't warrant you to degrade them.

Are we allowed to question their evidence and conclusions? Because it isn't really a discussion if we aren't. It's people just stating their opinions. I'll start. I prefer marmalade to jam. Why is that a conspiracy? Because the jam manufacturers are producing ever bitterer marmalades in an effort to snub this whole sub-genre of preserves as inedible. It's a conspiracy I tell you!

Also, there's already a thread for this. Several, in fact.

(1) Yeah, you're free to question, or even prove their evidence wrong. Just don't, like I tend to see on a lot of threads, straight out call people "idiots" for the plain and simple reason you don't beleive them, yet can't prove anything.

(2) I appologise, I did a search and didn't turn anything up. So I assumed there wasn't a thread.

Dental Amalgams-

I always thought it was just a wild conspiracy that dentists put a trace amount of mercury into teeth fillings. I was curious about this the other day and looked it up, ended up on EPA.gov where they said out in the open dental amalgams are composed of 50% mercury.

"When amalgam fillings are placed in or removed from teeth, they can release a small amount of mercury vapor. Amalgam can also release small amounts of mercury vapor during chewing, and people can absorb these vapors by inhaling or ingesting them."

Mercury is one of the most toxic element know to man. I've seen videos of how minute amounts of mercury kill brain cells instantly. The reason I looked this up because I've been noticing a decrease in overall health ever since I had a few of those fillings put in a couple years back.

The list of symptoms from mercury poisoning is ridiculous. They try to tell you it's safe to plant a neurotoxin straight into your mouth. It's the most idiotic thing and it's a shame we're in such a dark age of dental care.

I like how it only takes a quick google search to completely debunk your claims.

"Mercury is a component of the amalgam used for "silver" fillings. The other major ingredients are silver, tin, copper, and zinc. When mixed, these elements bond to form a strong, stable substance. The difference between bound and unbound chemicals can be illustrated by a simple analogy. Elemental hydrogen is an explosive gas. Elemental oxygen is a gas that supports combustion. When combined, however, they form water, which has neither of these effects. Amalgam's ingredients are tightly bonded to each other. Although the types of chemical bonds in water and amalgam differ, saying that amalgam will poison you is just as wrong as saying that drinking water will make you explode and burst into flames.

Very sensitive instruments can detect billionths of a gram of mercury vapor in the mouth of a person with amalgam fillings

[...]

Millions of people have amalgam restorations in their mouths, and millions more will receive amalgam for restoring their carious [decayed] teeth. Over the years, amalgam has been used for dental restorations without evidence of major health problems. Newly developed techniques have demonstrated that minute levels of mercury are released from amalgam restorations, but no health consequences from exposure to such low levels of mercury released from amalgam restorations have been demonstrated. Given the available scientific information and considering the demonstrated benefits of dental amalgams, unless new scientific research dictates otherwise, there currently appears to be no justification for discontinuing the use of dental amalgam [13]."

It literally took me seconds to find out that your claims are completely nonsense. Funny how, had you done a google search- ie, the smallest conceivable amount of research- to verify this crap after you read it on whatever conspiracy blog you frequent, you wouldn't be here shouting paranoid, alarmist garbage. Perhaps you should start fact-checking what you read on TheyreOutToGetYou.com or whatever before you come here and reproduce it verbatim?

Wait, you actually believe putting any amount of Mercury into the human body isn't going to cause health problems.

Do you know what mercury is and what it does to brain cells? You honestly think inhaling having mercury vapor is SAFE?

Your basic understanding of chemistry needs some serious work. It's the fluorine thread all over again.

Elemental sodium is explosive.

Elemental chlorine is poisonous.

Put them together and you get halite, an ionic compound necessary for the construction of cells. And a vital ion for human survival.

Seriously, GMS, go back to school. They taught me all this kind of thing when I was about 12.

As I've said before:

Elemental oxygen causes brain damage in large enough quantities.

Nitrogen suffocates you.

Ozone destroys your lungs.

Hydrogen is highly explosive.

Carbon Dioxide suffocates you.

Helium suffocates you.

Oxides of nitrogen produce acids.

Your breathing all of these in right now.

If history is true, then why did humans all of a sudden go from being some fire inventing tribe people to building giant pyramids and temples to praise 'god'?

How did they build the piramids using 3 to 15 ton blocks wich would be impossible to lift and haul on an uphill ramp with 20 people.

How did they make the gabs between the blocks that straight that you cant even put a razor between them?

And then using only very old tools and technology they line them up with the northpole with only 1 inch of clearance wich would be almost impossible using modern technology.

What if some sort of intelligent life visited the earth a very long time ago and they taught us humans.

then they left and the humans started building temples to praise there teachers?

Would that make sense?

Stephen King killed John Lennon. Not content with being the worlds greatest author of horror fiction, King also decided to moonlight as the most nefarious murderer in American history. It doesn't matter that witnesses saw Mark Chapman fire the gun, or that Mark Chapman admitted to the crime, Stephen King did it - and I don't mean in a metaphorical sense, Stephen King fired the gun that killed John Lennon.

Despite not being in New York at the time and having no motivation whatsoever for doing it, besides pure evil.

Mercury is a neurotoxin! It's one of the most harmful elements known to man and you're inhaling pure mercury vapor every time you chew.

Everytime you inhale the mercury vapor it gets distributed throughout your entire body via your circulatory system. Once it comes in contact with neuron cells is causes near instant degeneration

How stupid do you have to be to endorse putting one of the most toxic elements known to man into your mouth?? I could name numerous other materials that could work just as well without the harm of mercury poisoning. Why in the world would you be supporting this??

I'm getting this sh*t removed asap. I've read too many reports about how people's health increased tremendously after getting their dental amalgams removed.

Go ahead and fill your mouth with this neurotoxin, survival of the fittest I suppose.

Why is it suddenly okay to make definitive claims about history when you clearly know nothing about it? There were protocivilisations elsewhere in the Middle East, the thing that made Egypt different is that they didn't have anywhere near the same military capabilities (whether because of demographics, ie too many women and old people, or simply because of crippling decentralisation, I'm not sure), yet they had comparable resources (crops, land, manpower etc.) meaning they were more than worth conquering.

Essentially, they had two choices: be enslaved by the Mesopotamians and whoever else wanted a piece of them, or give the illusion of being a highly cohesive, powerful society. They opted for the latter and made the construction of the pyramids their highest priority. Are you saying that an ancient protocivilisation is completely and under all circumstances incapable of building something like the pyramids? Even if they're utilising the majority of their resources? Because that's quite a claim, and I'd love to hear your explanation.

I used to be good friends with an aspiring Egyptologist, I wonder what she'd make of all this!

GMS, I'm going to make this as simple as I possibly can: when you use mercury to bound metal, its composition changes completely. Further, we are talking incredibly benign amounts of mercury anyway. If you want to continue to make these claims without looking a complete mug, perhaps you could tell me 1) at what quantity mercury becomes harmful 2) what quantity is found in fillings and 3) does mercury still have the capacity to cause brain cell degradation while bounding zinc, copper and silver. Answer all three of those, and you win the debate!

I severely doubt you could, given that your understanding of the most basic tenets of child-level chemistry are so absolutely, totally and utterly laughable. Thiomersal and Merbromin are medical compounds used for stabilising antibiotics and live culture vaccines, and as an antiseptic also contain mercury compounds. Are you seriously insinuating they keep your pennicilin alive in a sea of poison?

Please, don't come back to this discussion until you gave at least a basic grasp of chemistry. All your hysteria is doing is making people, including me, laugh. A lot.

Melchior, quiet yourself. I actually like this idea of aliens visiting our ancestors. Seems sick. Wish I met them = (

Gms, forget the chemistry you claim to know about or whatever. Let's toss that out the window. You're saying mercury in dental implants is terrible for you... YET, dentists who have studied advanced chemistry and gone to dental school use it - here is my question- WHY? Why are you the only one that is "on to this"? I have this same question about all your theories really.

That whole mercury thing reminds me of this pamphlet our science teacher handed out [to make half the kids look like fools] about the dangers of "dihydrogen monoxide" (AKA water), that was back in 6th grade.

While he was babbling on about all the evil intent behind psychology's over-reliance on MASS MURDER PILLS, I laughed at the idea that the entire mental health industry was in on some conspiracy to take over the world despite hippocratic oaths and such, and Ryda exploded in and asked why that was so out of the realm of possibility, adding "do you really think they give a sh*t about you?" I liked that answer, because of the obvious implication that the entire world being out to get him, isn't at all absurd.

A friend of mine once asked me what I thought the class aspect of conspiracy theories were. I didn't know what he meant and he told me a lot of his neighbours (he lives in a council block, project tower, whatever they're called in the US) were avid conspiracy theorists, but he couldn't imagine someone like me or my friends being a conspiracy theorist. I suppose it's something to do with the underclass not feeling apart of organised society. If you aren't apart of society, it's pretty easy to imagine that it's all constructed to obstruct you at every turn.

It's very well known that anti-depressants actually cause an increase in suicide, yet are still to this day prescribed for depression and suicidal thoughts.

Why? I would love to know this as well.

You do? Well why didn't you ask me sooner? It's in the interest of pharmaceutical companies to increase the role of medication in treatment. They do this through a number of means, mainly financial and via misinformation.

It's actually pretty obvious if you put two seconds of thought into it.

No, some have said that there are better, more modern but often considerably more expensive alternatives. There is no scientific consensus other than the one stating that the use of mercury in alloys for dentistry is harmless. It has been scientifically studied numerous times.

Okay, ignoring your vastly entertaining butchery of chemistry, please produce one single meritable peer-review article which concludes that mercury used in dental work is proven to pose an additional risk. When you do that, I'll entertain your notion. Until then, I shall continue to mock your understanding of chemistry.

This is the problem with many of your arguments. Because you don't understand the fundamentals of the issue you discuss, you make inaccurate assumptions and when these are pointed out you get incredibly defensive. It would, perhaps, be a better use of your time for you to explore these basic subjects with an educational lens before you discuss them publicly, as, although entertaining, it is quite time consuming trying to teach you basic chemistry whilst debunking your arguments.

There are two elements of this I would like to see in context. The first relates to the phrasing of the first quote- to me that seems more like a discussion of the potential health effects from low level mercury exposure, which can be found in dental work, rather than an actual claim that the dental work is responsible for these conditions. The second is the final quote- without references to the actual trials being discussed it is totally meaningless.
