Looks like she'll pull through now but with minor neurological impairment.

2016 can f*ck right off.

I went out to dinner after seeing the movie and saw the news on TV. 2016 can certainly f*ck right off.

Anyway, the movie was terrific. I like episode VII better, but the last 45 minutes or so were amazing.

I've got a picture of Carrie Fisher on my wall (it's an 8x10 with a promo shot from ANH with her, Hamill, Ford, and Mayhew as Chewbacca). I refer to it as a picture of my second family. If we lose Carrie I will seriously grieve. Not a sadness that a stranger is dead, but serious mourning over the loss of someone important to me.

I got the news when I was with my brother's family while the kids had pictures taken with Santa Claus. I almost broke down right there. But my family and any normal sane person would think it's weird for a grown ass man to be crying for a person he's never met.

I can say all the cliches, but I just don't want her to go.

It's not weird and it's nothing to be ashamed of. It's empathy. It's that Carrie is someone who became a part of our lives, whether we knew her in person or not.

So far the reports have been unnervingly uncertain. All we can do is pray and keep her in our thoughts.

Yeah, it's not weird, darthYENIK. I cried when Bowie past away, and still cry when I think about how Freddie Mercury left us. If anything, it's better to let it out. But hopefully it won't come to that. She's had a pretty difficult life as I understand it, and it's been great to see her happy these last few years.

Now I have a good feeling Kylo will kill Leia too, RIP.

Yeah, perhaps in the interquel comic between episodes VII & VIII. R.I.P., may the Force be with Carrie Fisher, AKA Leia.

it just really sucks that we won't have any more appearances by Carrie as Leia.

she was finally getting the proper respect she deserved for that role, too.

suck a dick 2016.

Trying to keep it together. The people around me would definitely be weirded out by a grown ass man crying.

I just want to go home and curl up in a pathetic ball in a dark room.

I'm thinking Leia is either going to be written off as dead in dialogue, or killed in some sort of "explosion" of sorts. Can't imagine any type of replacement other than a body double for nanosecond or so.

RIP Carrie Fisher :(

I really, really hope they do like they did with Paul Walker and Brian O'Conner (minus the CGI/body double stuff if they can help it), and just ...quietly write her into the background, and then have Leia bow out and 'retire' (figuratively speaking) out of harm's way somewhere. Seems more respectful that way, rather than trying to write her passing into the film, like it's something they can use as a plot device. Let Leia ride off into the proverbial sunset, I reckon.

Particularly considering:

...I just got out of seeing Rogue One, and that final reveal before the credits - which took on an even more poignant tone considering the news a few days ago. Don't want to sound trite, but having the younger Leia simply end the film with "hope", while - because I've only just seen this news now - she was in hospital, almost felt like an optimistic note for real, too.

As it is, instead, it feels now like simply a fitting tribute. Dear Gareth Edwards: for a future release (possibly the DVD/Blu-Ray) of Rogue One, maybe add a 'for Carrie Fisher' in the credits? Goes without saying that Episode VIII will do so, but like I say, considering that moment, it seems only proper, IMO.

Slight tangent: also worth remembering that she was also one of the best script doctors in the business - often uncredited. Hook, When Harry Met Sally, Sister Act, The Wedding Singer, Lethal Weapon 3, and ...even The Empire Strikes Back. RIP to a talented, tough-as-nails, inimitable lady.

You can't just write out Leia. She can't just be retired from the resistance. It would destroy her character. She fights. And as long as she lives she would stand up to people like the Empire and First Order.

I don't know what the character will encounter in the next movie, but unless the First Order falls and Kylo Ren is killed or comes back from the dark side, there's going to most likely be some gigantic changes to what happens in episode IX if they want to keep her alive.

She will die in Episode VIII.

Kind of disappointed that they didn't do that for Kenny Baker, I feel they should've done something for him too.

I don't even know what to write. It's absolutely devastating and I mean that sincerely. Carrie was an admirable, inspiring, talented and witty woman and we all have lost much with her passing. Leia, too, was a character I grew to respect and appreciate more and more as years went by, to the point that I was actually looking forward to Carrie's part in VIII more than to Mark's. Knowing that we'll never get to see her play the role again is simply heartbreaking.

Found this via the BBC News website, about a story from the filming of A New Hope, and from all I've heard and seen written about Carrie Fisher is that this is her exact sense of humour. I think it only fitting that we should respect her wishes and let the world know that she drowned in moonlight strangled by her own bra.

I really feel like I've lost a family member. I've mourned less at family members dying.

There was a time, when I was maybe ten years old, that I would watch the original trilogy every day. Every. Day. Six hours a day. Star Wars. I would watch anything with a Star Wars actor in it. The Burbs, one of my favorite movies, I first watched because I saw Carrie in it. Drop Dead Fred, a f*cking terrible movie with its own charm, I saw because Carrie was in it. Watched her one woman show where she just talked about life. Almost cried when we first saw her in the Force Awakens, because she was Leia again.

It's just f*cking life. Good people die before they should.
