Took a break on free playing levels in LEGO TFA and made Kyle Katarn, Aphra, and BT-1...

BT-1's head color is messed up, though. Wish I could make Triple Zero, but I don't think I could make a black Protocol Droid.

Have to say both darthyenik and coin's responses are excellent - which I'm really pleased with, because it shows that as true fans we can not only agree or disagree but come to the same conclusion that this space odyssey is a pure fantasy golden pile of magical nuts. But why do I love it so much?

Ok can someone explain to me why we have two canons in the same official canoned franchise? As weird as it may sound...well that's exactly what it comes down to - from what I understand the stand-alone movies such as Rogue-One are canon story wise but are not part of the saga. So those or some characters will not be part of the new trilogy in any way shape or form. For example the stand alone films will not include the iconic text crawl like all other official Star Wars films. So any current or previous characters from books or TV shows are unlikely to appear in any feature saga films, unless their stories are rewritten - right?

This is all getting confusing lol. Oh yeah another thing....

Jar Jar Binks was spotted alive and well somewhere on set.

Goddamn it. Now we're gonna have the hilarious

Darth Jar Jar

theories coming out left right and centre once again lmao. I'm actually surprised they decided to dig up this piece of sh*t character up out of nowhere.

Jar Jar Binks, Jar Jar Abrams

:panic::lol:

The opening of the trailer is absolutely briliant. Saw's broken voice, the March plucked in the background and then the wonderfully dark shot of the Star Destroyer above the city... Well, the entire trailer is amazing, but that's simply the one part that really sticks out in my mind.

Another thing is that it really sold me on the gritty tone. Maybe I'm ignorant, but I didn't really see it in the first trailer. Hence my indifference towards the reshoots. I expected (and still do to a significant extent) that R1 will be a dark war film in the same way the Winter Soldier is a "political thriller". Just a bit of flavor, not much more, as it looked like a normal Star Wars movie to me. However this trailer conveyed the dedication to the grounded, militaristic style much better. The dialogue, for example, feels perfect in how plain and to the point it is. There is a sense of severity and desperation running all throughout the trailer.

I know that in both cases I'm judging a movie by the trailer and no one knows how will the final product turn out - but this trailer made me believe all that talk about the intent to make this movie feel completely different compared to the Saga. The distinctions are simply much clearer here.

I want Vader to do some Force Unleashed OP sh*t.

...I really hope he doesn't, tbh - personally, I reckon that'd take the whole 'slow, immovable object' presence that made him so cool and awe-inspiring in the classic movies, and turn him into something a bit, frankly, 'videogame-y'. For my money, Vader should be more 'fear the reaper', not 'action movie badass'.

What I'm loving about this so far is that it's like the golden days of the early Expanded Universe again, where much of the good stuff being done wasn't 'let's tell THE NEXT CHAPTER IN THE MONOLITHIC STAR WARS SAGA', but more using books, comics, videogames and so-on to explore the unexplored tales of the known era of Star Wars - things that felt like fleshing out the setting and context of the classic original movies. Maybe I'm jumping the gun, but there's something kind of cool about a film that (advances in film-making technology aside), could easily have been made in, say, 1995, with the distinct lack of prequel references - nothing against those movies, but it sure helps add to that 'original vintage Star Wars' feel by (seemingly) limiting the references and design aesthetic in that way.

Only minor reservation I have is all the scuttlebutt about Disney asking for re-edits of what was going to be a gritty war movie, to make it more 'light, family-friendly and entertaining' in a more traditionally Star Wars-y way. Although that's largely because I'm a bit sick of the modern studio trend of studios editing genre movies with a f***ing hatchet, regardless of what that does to plot threads or pacing (looking at you, Batman v Superman, Ghostbusters and Suicide Squad... :sneaky:) - worth remembering that the original Star Wars was apparently saved in the editing room, due to some judicious scene trimming and re-framing. Probably worrying for nothing, because ...gawd, this looks so good the more they show of it, eh?

Im actually more excited for Rogue One than TFA, only thing i don't like is the Jyn character, the more i see her the more annoyed i get. I wish she was little more serious and way less sarcastic

I don't mean I want him to be Starkiller, jumping around, spinning his saber like Darth Maul. I mean I want to see him like what they did with Vader in that game.

Maybe TFU was a bad example. I'm more talking like the style of the Kieron Gillen comics. Like this...

there are so many examples in the new marvel comics of how vader can be used.

Eh, again, I personally reckon that it undercuts Vader as we know him in the classic movies, if we see him doing all kinds of flashier stuff here.

Bad enough we've had 'Rocket-boost R2-D2' in the prequels - I really hope they don't make the same mistake here, by trying to make Vader 'cool'.

Frankly, just having Vader show up, do classic Vader stuff, and do so with it guaranteed that he's going to come out unscathed (because duh...), is going to be awe-inspiring enough. Sane with the walkers - they don't need to do anything excessively flashy, or any major 'set-piece' moments, just be ...unstoppable.

I disagree with that. They should respect that classic Vader feel. However, at the same time we need to see some samples of his brutality and why he is so feared and respected.

Like darthYenik said, he doesnt have to be acrobatic and jumpy like Darth Maul or Yoda, but he should do a little more than look stoic with occasional force choke.

Still don't think that'd be appropriate. Besides, considering he's largely acting as 'muscle' for people like Tarkin at this point in time (and he's not nearly as universally-feared by the Imperial higher-ups, if Admiral Motti's anything to go by - we're not at the level of Admiral Ozzel and Captain Needa bowing and scraping, yet), I'd much rather see him engage in, well, ...more of this:

I dont think Vader can use force lightning though, with metal limbs and whatnot.

Clone Wars is mostly boring, but it gets better. "The lost missions" were real good.

Rebels is okay. Some emotional moments if you are a fan of Clone Wars.

Vader is pretty good in Rebels.

I'm really digging the whole darker feel that R1 seems to be taking. I want to actually be left horrified by the acts of the Empire, something that the previous films have never left me feeling about them, despite the fact that they wipe literal planets out.

But then again I'm a bit of a fan of the whole gritty, realistic sci-fi thing. I wouldn't mind seeing an ass-whooping Vader, but if he starts doing flips or acrobatic flips, then I will be severely disappointed.

I can just see it now with everyone clapping in the theater when Vader appears.

I agree with no acrobatics, especially since his bio-mechanical form would be much more inhibiting to him physically following his duel with Obi-wan. Personally, I always perceived younger Jedi as being more agile when it came to fighting with a lightsaber, and that the older a Jedi became, the wiser and more knowledgeable of the force he/she became, which offset the physical deterioration. Unfortunately, the Yoda-Dooku duel in the Clone Wars completely destroyed that. That was so cartoon-ish; I hated it.

I wouldn't minds as some have said, though. I would like to see him be a bit more ruthless.

What I really want for Vader is for him to be the shark in Jaws, or the Terminator or "Predator". A force of nature that keeps coming, and takes out the good guys one by one with no visible emotion.

Speaking of Vader seeming emotionless, I high suggest that Kieron Gillen run of Darth Vader comics. Gillen is so good at showing Vader as emotionless, but letting you (the reader) know the raging storm of emotions inside him. But I digress.

I'm not that worried about Vader. I think it's the people who expect unreal choreography and destruction porn who are setting themselves up for disappointment, rather those who expect something closer to the OT's portrayal of the character. Lucasfilm have demonstrated their understanding of Vader all throughout the novels, comic books, Rebels; everywhere. The new Canon has been really good for him so far, restoring him back as a relentless, terrifying presence. And, if TFA is anything to go by, they are also capable of restraining their action. Whatever we'll see in R1, it should be closer to the Starkiller forest duel than Yoda flipping around on the ceiling.

So, we'll be good, I think. They know that Vader should be Batman, not Superman. His action scenes should be all about tension and not just mind-numbing spectacle. If there is one video game I'd expect R1 to emulate, then it's Battlefront, with unstoppable Vader casually marching around, cutting helpless Rebels by dozen, rather than Starkiller's antics in TFU.

Goddamn it. RIP Kenny you legend. Played one of the sweetest and funniest characters in the Star Wars franchise, you will be sorely missed. May the force be with you.

On that note, I watched the trailer yesterday. It is absolutely fantastic and Vader's appearance was seriously terrifying, the way he was standing there with the theme playing in the background. I'm expecting to see an extemely more brutal and scary force-of-nature sort of bad guy seeing as he is still quite fresh from turning to the dark side.
