Lucasarts had nothing to do with deciding canon. They used EU inspired stories in their games, but they didn't decide the actual canon. The only person who was in charge of that was George Lucas himself, who made it very clear that the EU (books, comics, games, anything not the movies or Clobe Wars) was not the same canon as the movies. The EU might have had some form of continuity within itself, but it was never truly officially part of the movies' canon.

I'm quite sure the lightsaber crystals are canon, since it isn't directly tied with the things they consider non-canon. It's the only explanation for different coloured lightsabers, they literally have to use this reason otherwise f*ck what they think.

I agree. It's all true.

Kylo's helmet makes no sense though. When he first took it off I was expecting to see a horrendous face with scars and deformities. But instead we got this baby looking face like Snoke lol.

Don't you think that's actually a reason why it makes sense though, Darth Plagueis?

 

The mask makes him more intimidating and I imagine that helps in his position. Just looking at it from a different perspective.

I read on Wookieepedia that the natural crystals were from the Adega system, Ilum and Dantooine. On Dantooine there was a so-called cave called, "Crystal Cave".

I really like this version it has alot of detail. Ok so during the empire era, crystals for making sabers were banned or destroyed by the galactic emperor Palpatine. So Luke had to come up with his own unique version- hence the green lightsaber. These crystals were only available on one planet, precisely inside a cave.

 

 

Funny you say that, because in the deleted scenes, Luke is assembling his new lightsaber in which so happens to be a cave. Only problem is that it's on Tatooine.

Rebels kinda makes things confusing. in clone wars they go to crystal cave and complete the training. but in Rebels they end up at some abandoned Jedi Outpost where the young one completes his training and acquires a crystal

well also in Clone Wars it is heavily implied that Obi Wan and the Dutchess of Mandalore had a serious relationship at one point. but there was never mention of a child. but i can see why people might develop this theory. you just don't expect to hear Obi Wans voice first. but then who knows, now its come that she was hearing Snoke call her to the darkside while she was fighting Kylo

The whole vision was based on the past, and the reason she could probably actually see the vision is because she is a Skywalker, hence touching a Skywalker's lightsaber caused her to experience it. I've also heard theories about her being Obi-Wan's granddaughter, but I don't know, it's much more far-fetched unless there is an explained backstory to it. Also, I read the article you posted and it seems like Snoke has planned this for a long time. If in the novel he told her to kill him, that means he didn't want Kylo in the first place and is simply using him as a pawn, and he already knows and when he tells her during the battle she needs a teacher, it's EXACTLY like the situation where Vader beats Luke but holds back and tells him to join him so they can get rid of Sidious.

Exactly, he's a massive emo edge lord teenage brat who's mad at mommy and daddy and uses a mask to hide that. I bet you he also hangs posters of Darth Vader in his bedroom.

 

Seriously though, I would have rather he kept the mask on, and learn of his insecurities later in Episode 9. TFA somewhat spoiled an amazing and intimidating villain. He was actually going well beyond my expectations until he removed the mask. So now I'm not so sure about him.

I love how Adam Driver even acted differently based on whether he was wearing the mask or not. Like just after the torture scene, when Kylo reports to Snoke and Hux storms in, demeaning him for letting the map in the Resistance's hands in favor of taking Rey, and Kylo just twists his eyes and looks on the ground with that "f*ck off now, you arrogant prick" face, like an offended little child.

 

The mask wasn't there just to intimidate enemies and subordinates. Like X S said, Kylo needed that mask himself to hide his own insecurity. With it, he feels like a badass. Without, he's just a rebelling kid.

 

It's going to be very interesting to see his character evolve further. He thought Han's death would bring clarity, but it just made everything worse. With all that desperation fueling him, he's going to be a total bastard in the Episode VIII, that's for sure.

I thought this scene was really fascinating. It really amused me. The small details in this movie were extremely neat. I loved how Rey put flour in the device and the bread rises up.

I wish I could see this in IMAX. This is the 4th and final IMAX poster.
