What type of clock should be used in GTAV? Would you prefer the classic 24 minute clock, the GTAIV 48 minute clock, or the Red Dead Redemption clock (It was either a 96 minute or a 72 minute clock) but it was very long.

You may discuss.

Well I made a poll asking the same thing a long time ago as well. I preferred the 24 Minute clock we saw in the III era, but majority preferred the 48 hour clock so I think majority of the people will prefer for the days to be like GTA IV in terms of length.

The 48 minute in-game day in GTA IV was fine IMO; in fact, it is probably almost perfect in terms of timing. I'm actually pretty sure that Red Dead Redemption also had the same in-game day length of 48 minutes (unless if someone can provide a source stating otherwise). The in-game day length in the GTA III-era games often felt too short for me IMO.

As such, I think that GTA V will follow suit with a 48 minute in-game day (two seconds per in-game minute) much like GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption which isn't too long, but not too short either.

I do want longer days but make it easier to advance time. Maybe instead of just using beds to sleep 6 hours you can use park benches to sit and wait and instantly jump forward a a number of hours of your choice.

What does wanting someway to pass time have to do with the sims?

Personally I'd like a 72 minute clock, but if that wasn't an option I'd be fine with the 48 minute.

IV's 48 minute clock was perfect for most things, but felt off when you were playing pool, darts, or bowling. It felt ridiculous that you'd start bowling at 8PM and finish the game 10 hours later at 6am in the morning.

If activities like these return on top of a 48 clock it would be nice if time went into a real 24 hour clock until the activity is over. So if you play pool for 30 minutes in real life, 30 minutes will pass in game, and then when you're finished time will return to a 48 minute clock.

Also, I'm in favor of ways to pass time, either setting how long you sleep for when you save(like Far Cry 2), or having a "rest" option at park benches, restaurants, or when you're at home in front of your T.V.. It would allow you to play at certain parts of the day or start missions that only start at certain times(if these types of missions return) without having to save a bunch of times.

Heeeey! Michael was waiting on a park bench in the second trailer so I'm expecting to see some great park bench action in the game.

Daytime (7:00am - 7:00pm) should be 2 mins = 1 hour (daytime being 24 mins long)

Nighttime (7:00pm - 7:00am) should be 1 min = 1 hour (nighttime being 12 mins long)

I would prefer it being the opposite, I love the night life in GTA games. Although Los Santos would suit a longer daytime period.

I've always found it to just be annoying rather than entertaining. In IV, it was cool seeing the lights the first few nights, but then I got numb to it. All it really does is make shoot-outs harder, car chases more dangerous, and it makes me feel gloomy and depressed.

Daytime in GTA, however, makes every day feel wonderful. I am so positive and happy, thinking about what to do... Maybe I'll buy a hotdog, maybe I'll do a few stunt jumps, maybe I'll massacre a bunch of police.

Idk, maybe in V I will grow fonder towards nighttime. I imagine night will be pretty f*cking intense in the countryside, especially with bears! mercie_blink.gif

I'd prefer 3 minutes = 1 hour.

I like driving around Liberty City in the midday but sometimes I found the days too short in IV. It can't be too short that you can't enjoy the daytime.

Night time was terrible in GTA IV. It was muggy and gray and sometimes so dark you couldn't see anything.

Changing the clock and game time would be straight up confusing, especially for developers. It would be weird for time to suddenly go half speed when it hits 7 am. Does your alarm clock change from 9:00 to 9:01 in 30 seconds? No.

If the clock is going to be shortened to fit a game world (the way it has been) it should stay the same 24 hrs.

That being said, I would like the 72 min day, because of the amount of time being required to get from A to B in such a large map.

All I'll say is that I'd like longer nights and longer sunsets/sunrises. f*ck it, longer days in general.

Whatever RDR had would be almost perfect. Even a little bit slower would be nice

That's what I've always wanted GTA clocks to be. You can actually feel the different times of the day in RDR because they last for awhile, unlike GTA where morning quickly turned into midday, and suddenly the sun started setting, especially in the III era.

RDR clock = the best IMO.

Probably the bigger the map = The longer the days

So I would expect the V to run 72 min or 96 min days considering it's bigger than Red Dead and alot bigger than GTA III or IV.

The day night cycle in Just Cause 2 worked well (that was 1 hour = 24 Ingame hours) so I would want similar for V

48-60 minutes. It's boring when you drive on a sunny weather and it goes dark at evenings. Btw, one GTA IV day is 40 real minutes.

I would be okay with 48, but from the news of how HUGE the map is going to be 72 or 96 minutes sounds more suitable.

The length of time should be proportionate to the size of the location realistically. I would find it strange driving from the mountains at midnight and arriving at Los Santos at 3PM, unless if that is how long it would take to get to LA in real life.

A lot of devs do it, and I hate it. It was particularly noticeable in Far Cry 3 and Just Cause 2. It's just weird when a 24 minute day goes past and you get a 10 minute night. They should be equal and, in response to the OP, the day should be 48 minutes at least.

Let's have longer days, 72 minutes with more and easier ways to skip time. Sleeping on park benches is a good idea. Food stops should also advance time. Night time sucked in IV - it was too gloomy and too hard to see details. Hopefully night time in V will be more enjoyable.

72 minutes sounds good to me. It does feel weird when you have to be somewhere in an hour and you have all of two minutes to speed across the city wrecking your car. That for me is an immersion wrecker. 96 minutes makes even more sense, if there is plenty to do and a whole lot of map to cover,

A good feature to implement would be the alarm clock from Far Cry 2 where before you go to sleep you can set an alarm so you can decide how long to sleep for. Can't believe this was omitted in FC3.

It will probably be 48 minutes like in GTA IV. Originally, I preferred 24 like in III-era games, but now I think time goes way too fast in those games. Some people are wanting 72 minute long days. Personally, I wouldn't be able to stand 36 minutes of darkness.
