How do so many people get banned?

to answer the question darrin and cida, and anybody else he did some very off-topic posts, he never posted anything offensive, not all his posts but a good number of them went off on tangents regarding the topic at hand, but I think (going by his log which was revealed to us) what really drove them over the edge was 'PM spamming' while he was temp banned. asking people to post for him etc. you would not have seen that cos PMs are Private. f*ck that is what the P stands for (well for some)

 

also the regularity of his offenses, he did them time and time again within days after coming back from a temp so they just decided enough is enough.

Before I was aware of all the Slamman drama (I had yet to become part of the OGA aka the dedicated slamman board) he sent me a lengthy, uninvited PM. When I asked him what on earth possessed him to do that, he told me my attitude was flippant and that it would be good for me to learn about the struggles of the less fortunate because I can't see past their attempts at keeping their spirits up... for reference, the initial PM he sent me was about how much sh*t he had to through to renew his driver's license.

my only PM from slamman was simply an answer to a question i asked about embedding youtube videos

I think he was banned at the time and may have been within a few days of his busted-ness.

The amount of green in my warn log far outweighs the amount of red though; and the only red I have was back from 2009... If it wasn't for me being a tool back then, I'd be pretty much completely clean (Damn my idiotic ways when I first joined) .

I've only been permabanned from a forum once. Over at Gametrailers, the mods are control freaks, micro-managing everything. They'll find any excuse they can to ban you if you disagree with them on anything. I was temp-banned several times. I finally got IP banned, but I don't care considering their new forums are trash.

Other than some minor trolling warnings and gang flame wars i've been fairly free of warnings or bans. It doesnt take a genius to avoid bans. Obey the rules and if a mod says stop, you stop.

 

People dont realize the mods and staff hold the rights to ban any one for any thing. Yes there's a possibility of biased-ness but dont f*ck up and you'll be fine. You cant come in here and do as you please. You wouldnt go over to a strangers house and walk around naked (typically alcohol or drugs are needed for most people) letting everything hang out.

I knew Murdoc was a nice guy from some of his posts in OFS, which I lurk a lot in but when you read his other posts, mostly in Gaming chat, he was kinda a dick, so basically I'm just reaffirming what many posts before me said.

 

But that's why I don't really post a lot in, say, the Off Topic chat, because I feel like I might say something stupid and be made a fool by some witty remark, which is why I just lurk, even though Gen Chat is my favourite.

 

So yeah most people get banned just for generally being dicks, although I remember back in like '08 I got a warning PM from CharmingCharlie for constantly bumping my topic in the WritersDiscussion, I felt so bad

I have 1 green and two reds.

 

The reds are very very old ones.They were recieved when I was an idiotic newbie.

 

The green is from september 2012.Bit old,but still very happy with it.It's not a full one though.

The bannings are generally high whenever there's a new GTA game around the corner. Higher traffic means higher amounts of idiots and trolls. Not to mention, emotions seem to run high amongst teenagers (who form a large part of our member base) and continuously failing to keep your emotions in check will get you banned.

 

I'd also like to give a dishonorable mention to the Gangs forum as it generates its fair share of idiots on a regular basis; people who think they can get away with multiple/duplicate accounts and the likes.

Also think about all those PBMs (previously banned members). Once they come back and get caught they will be banned right again.

If someone is doing this ten times a day, I don't wonder about a lot people beeing busted.

Anyways I was temporarily banned for being kind of rude. Sometimes I type when I'm at school and my moods sometimes flip. I think I don't post as rude now.

Problem I have with this is that some more known people are being busted randomly and we never get to see the reasons (some of them seem to be just banned by butthurt mods/admins). Do you mods check eachother bannings?

 

Or is there a way to tell why someone's been busted?

If you want an answer to the question "why do so many people get banned", just think of how intelligent- or otherwise- the average person you've met on the street is. And then remember that statistically, it's probable that somewhere around half of people are less intelligent than that.

Declining average ages due in most part to parents, the hype, excitement, and passion that comes with the announcement of a new GTA game which impairs the judgement skills of members causing repeated rule violations, there are a lot of things. When a ban is requested due to calling it quits or a username change, it's normal for the thought to mention it in their signature to slip the mind of a moderator because their job can be extremely hectic and stressful.

 

As for the rule violation side of it, many posters in the GTA V subforum can be very immature people with very poor social skills (yes, I know I was like that not too long ago). Passion and excitement can have very detrimental effects on judgement when your still a little kid physically or even just emotionally. That's where the flaming and insulting or otherwise nonconstructive and infuriatingly pointless comments in the GTA V subforum come from.

 

As people do this repeatedly or do other stuff in a way that makes the situations with the rule violations more and more serious, people get permabanned. In addition to repeated or very serious violations, forum leaders, moderators, and administrators have common sense knowledge to detect when someone just came the forums to be an asshole. This could be through definitively "stupid" usernames i.e. "CallofDutyisBetter", incidents where the user immediately starts insulting other people or through more gruesome incidents like the posing of gay porn or shocking and disgusting images. In fact, there's a misfit out there who periodically creates new accounts under new IP addresses to post gay porn, shiesse porn, pictures of dead bodies, or other gruesome images designed to offend.
