Rumor: GTA V PC

F*ckin bullsh*t

I got 4GB RAM and GTA IV + EFLC runs fine.

I had 4GB RAM once and thought that GTA:IV ran fine. Then I got 8GB and it ran better.

You see when I had the 4GB, GTA:IV would only run smoothly for around 30 to 40 minutes. Then it would start stuttering because the 4GB had filled up and the system was paging. Moving to 8GB solved that. I was on Vista though which has a huge memory footprint.

i know is off topic but what min cpu will be

Nobody knows but if you want to be able to play GTA V at least on minimum requirements then you need a dual core processor but do not expect anything outstanding. You need a tripple or better a quad core processor to play on medium-high settings.

Windows Vista needs a great ammount of RAM because the Operating System alone eats up a lot of it and GTA IV requires more and more RAM as time goes. That is why 8GB is a great improvement over 4GB RAM even though GTA IV is only a 32-bit software.

Not sure how this got to four pages, it's based on nothing factual.

So this is the source of the article:

http://www.thebitbag.com/2013/01/15/gta-5-max-settings-16gb-ram-pc/

Which was picked up by:

http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/gta-5-pc-release-to-require-16gb-of-ram

The first one is a lowly site with no editorial backing which makes an assumption which is not true and based on no emperical or theoretical knowledge on the subject matter, which is that "GTAV's minimum system requirements will be that of Max Payne 3's highest requirements", ergo, 16gb.

So they're just pulling it out of their own ass, it seems, right? There's no interesting analysis or research that came to that conclusion. Just something pulled out of the air.

RAM only plays a small role in making games run in comparison to the CPU and video card.

While it certainly is true that that a CPU and GPU plays an important role, I don't think the assumption that RAM plays a small role is true. In fact, if you read on game developer websites and publications, it currently is the #1 challenge for AAA developers to get games to run on current-gen console hardware which bears a mere 512mb ram, and already a lot of them are saying 8gb is too low for the next-gen hardware.

That said, it certainly is less challenging on PC where the modern day standards are higher.

----

On topic, like others have said, 16gb is just entirely incorrect. While it may the the requirement for the highest resolution texture setting, it won't be for medium and lower res (after all, the game is running on consoles with 512mb ram!).

As for any PC related discussion, this can continue in the dedicated GTAV PC Thread. I'm locking this in that it'll just fill up with people periodically coming in to say "NO way, no 16gb! f*ck IS THIS!!?"
