Andrewjr
I am just curious to hear all of your thoughts on this as I am really hoping the driving is better than GTAIV
Buffalo Soldier
Better handling hopefully, although the statement Houser gave not too long ago about it being more like a 'Racing Game' frightens me.
PowerstrokeTurboDiesel
I enjoyed 4's driving but I didnt like how you could hardly ever roll the car or suv over.
rader1
I enjoyed 4's driving but I didnt like how you could hardly ever roll the car or suv over. What? The cars were WAY to easy to roll over. If you hit rubber safety cones at speed the car would do an immediate barrell roll lol
Xx-ADITYA-xX
Better driving mechanics; cars hold onto the ground much more, car physics improved, handling improved, "feels more like a racing game" means that GTA Races are now going to be x5 times more fun and realistic. Convertible roof cars have been introduced. I was wondering, if it's like a 'racing game' would aerodynamic car physics be introduced? Would the convertible roof affect acceleration and speed? No one knows about petrol yet, but as we have seen portable gas containers, could this hint towards aj introduction of a petrol system?

nismo13
Better handling hopefully, although the statement Houser gave not too long ago about it being more like a 'Racing Game' frightens me. But racing games have cars that handle better and realistically. Im pretty sure when he referred to "racing game" he meant simulation racing like forza or the Gran turismo series, not arcade racers like NFS or their own Midnight club. Im a fan of GTA IV driving physics but they are far from realistic. The cars felt kinda "heavy" and "wobbly" there is no other way to explain it lol? I would love if they stiffed' up the cars a bit more and made them more agile.
Miss Darko
Only issue is, racing games, even realistic racing sims, don't typically include non-sports cars, since you wouldn't be racing a basic day-to-day car like that. The hope is that, while sports cars should receive those improvements, 'normal' cars are approached a bit differently so as to increase variety and realism. Cars like that might barrel out of control if you were to drive them at full speed and attempt a turn, while a sports car might be able to handle that. Basically, cars in GTA IV drove too much like civilian cars, even the sports cars. However, having every car drive like a sports car in GTA V would be just as bad. Hopefully what they're going to do is simply make them feel more like what they really are, in both respects. Right now I'm taking solace in the statement that they can "run more physics" on the cars. I feel like this means that they're not going for arcade-y racing game-style driving, but rather racing sim driving. But they still have to take into account the difference between day-to-day civilian cars and the sports cars found in such racing games.

G-Eazy
From the issue of Game Informer that was released yesterday, Rockstar stated that they will be vastly improving many mechanics in the game, such as driving, shooting, and melee combat to name a few. Describing the way driving will feel in “GTA 5,” Dan Houser states that “the cars hold to the ground a bit better. We thought they were big and boatlike in GTA IV, and we feel like it has really leaped forward because we're able to run a little more physics on them. There are not a lot of high level racing games out there at the moment, and that itch is going to be scratched by this game in a way maybe it hasn't been in previous GTAs.” Source: Examiner
infiniteammo
I was of the opinion that the handling in IV was nearly perfect. So I'm looking forward to seeing how they improved on that.

killahmatic
What would be perfect for me would be just slightly, SLIGHTLY better than IV. IV was near perfect but some cars turned a little too slow. Like most people the 'racing game' quote still bothers me. Destroying the handling that they had near perfect in IV would be more disappointing to me than anything else. I've played quite a few racing games, and most of them either have generally terrible handling, or handling thats too realistic, which would never work on city streets in a videogame. Ermac_
the handing in gta iv was perfect to be honest, I admit it can use some more heavy based physics involving the traction, but other than that it is able to demonstrate a good handle system that didnt feel like sht compared to other games. NONative
The issue I had with IV is exactly what Houser said in GI, that the cars were boat like. Driving a car and driving a boat were almost the same on IV.
Ferocious Banger
What I hated in the otherwise lovely handloom in IV was the exaggerated "sway" that the cars had; made the hood view a pain in the rear.
GTA fan from the United Kingdom
The driving in IV & TBoGT was near perfect, the only problem i had was that the engines were too quiet. In V i really want to hear the engines ROARRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!! like they do in real life.

kesta195
I like the phrases 'they hold to the ground a bit better' and 'we've run more physics on them' but not so much 'it feels like a racing game', unless they mean like GT5 or Forza. pg1313
If L.A. Noir is anything to go by, then the cars will handle as if they were attached to train tracks.
Alenko
IV had it right, less arcade, more realistic however it could always do with a tweak.

I really hope the driving is more like LA Noire this time. I know the majority of people here think IV's handling was damn-near perfect, but I don't. Every car in IV handled like a ten-ton truck in my opinion.

sddales
It's true the cars were too boat like. I mean it gave them the sense of weight they needed for all cars that had been sorely missing from a great many games not confined to the GTA series. But seeing as they recognize the problem, I think now we will see some cars that feel truly amazing when you control them. Example: Get behind the wheel of an old Cadillac it's big and boat like and it feels like you can roll all two tons if you jerk the wheel to hard. It picks up speed slow, but in a strong way and takes forever to stop, Get behind the wheel of an Audi (even the largest one) and its handling defies its size. It weighs just as much, but the body resists the tendency to roll, The power makes the thing accelerate like a rocket ship and the brakes will stop on a dime. If they can code the physics to show this difference we are golden.
