Bob_Gambino
Hi, So I think I have posted something like this before, if I have sorry. I am trying to figure out if my computer can run GTA 4. People have said I can, but then I launch the game, and its even lagging on the LOWEST settings. And I mean, absolute lowest. If I should be able to run it, is there anyway to boost my framerate? are there some settings I should use? Here are my specs: PROCESSOR: AMD Athlon II X4 645 Processor RAM: 6.2 GB OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 64-bit GPU: GeForce GTX 660 Ti DISK SPACE: 600.4 GB CPU SPEED: 3.1 GHz Thanks in Advance. Andreas
GTA IV should actually run fine on high settings with these PC specifications. Have you installed any patches? If not then you should download Patch 1.0.4.0 for the game. You can download the patch here. Also do not install the newest NVidia graphics card driver because the new driver causes performance problems in GTA IV. If you have already installed it then uninstall the driver, and then install an older driver. Bob_Gambino
Installed the patch, now the game wont run. getting this error: "RGSC.exe cannot start! RGSC must be present and running for the game to run."
Andreas
Try to unistall the game and all additional programs that were installed with GTA IV such as RGSC, then install the game again, but of course install patch 1.0.4.0 again. If you still get that error then try to download Patch 1.0.7.0 here, install it and then try again if GTA IV runs. luceberg
For patch 1.0.4.0, you may need to reinstall RGSC. At any rate, you need to start the game from RGSC.exe and not LaunchGTAIV.exe.

dansgas1000
Patch 4 is always good, try updating your drivers. AMD sucks

Just a couple questions: 1, why should i need to downgrade to be able to play the game properly, and 2, the shadows look terrible and pixelated. any thoughts? Andreas
Just a couple questions: 1, why should i need to downgrade to be able to play the game properly, and 2, the shadows look terrible and pixelated. any thoughts? Well, GTA IV runs with the newer NVidia drivers worse than with the older ones, I don't know why but I know that a lot of people have that problem with the new drivers. Yeah, the shadows look terrible which is fixed since patch 1.0.6.0! Since GTA IV runs now, you can download patch 1.0.7.0 here and then install it. The shadows look better now but of course they need more VRAM. Your graphics card is not that bad so that shouldn't be a problem. unc13bud
Just a couple questions: 1, why should i need to downgrade to be able to play the game properly, and 2, the shadows look terrible and pixelated. any thoughts? you answered your own question. people were whining about the shadows (like you are doing now), so rockstar made the shadows look better(? i can't tell the difference, nor care, as i am too busy playing the game to notice) in patch 7, which reduced performance considerably.
