kj2022
Hey guys, can somebody explain to me the point of yearly sports titles? wouldn't it be more cost efficient and easier to just release updates through xbox live/psn costing 1200msp/£10? Big-_-t0ny
Because EA would go out of business... Just kidding, they're made because they know people will buy them, even for the smallest of changes, kinda like COD.
kj2022
I don't mind COD, but games like Fifa and PGA don't really need yearly releases, what's changed so much in golf that it needs a yearly release?
Space Cowboy
I don't understand it either, it's just way to make even more money for game companies. Seriously IMO Fifa 2010 is pretty much th same game as Fifa 2012. Maybe some sports fanatics may enjoy these games, but for normal gamers like me one game from this genre is more than enough for a few years. No need to buy another, unless it's really something new. Radoonhagaydoon
I'll probably buy both MLB 13 The Show and MLB 2K13 anyways. Might buy FIFA 13 since I love footy but waiting until the price drops.

Erm... because the game stays the same. Get the ball in the back of the net, right? So...they tweak the physics, make improvements here and there so people feel like it's a different game. And it can be. When you master a particular game then the new one comes out, usually your a sh*t because you have to learn it again. Same rules, same game, different AI etc. Also, the sponors change and transfers etc. Oh and for people that play it like mad, they get new menus etc. It's kind of sickening watching the same menu with same soundtrack. Don't come back telling me they can do that in an update. I'm not justifiying it. Just giving you an answer. I still play in FIFA 11. I don't buy new titles every year. I'm not that stupid. darthYENIK
If you're not a hardcore fan of the sport, you're probably not going to get it. I don't think it's so they make more money, that's just a nice side effect. At this point it's expected. I know I expect a new NHL game every year, I don't always buy it (maybe once every three or four years), but I expect it, and would be upset if they didn't release a new game. But that's the nature of these sports. They really don't change. So why change the video games? It's not like anyone is being forced to buy the new versions year in and year out. 4 Bagger
If you're not a hardcore fan of the sport, you're probably not going to get it. Also this, I get FIFA every year, nearly the day it comes out. For someone who doesn't play the game often enough, they won't notice the difference but if you really enjoy the game and play it a lot, then you will know the slight differences that have been made; probably not enough to bring out a new game every imo, but that's how they make their money. Sgt. Foley
I get MLB every year. So what? It has an updated roster. Maybe even more features.
Wheatley
I don't get this either. I jokingly asked my friend if he has pre-ordered FIFA 14 yet and he said yes, I asked him why since he already bought FIFA 13 and he responded with "Its got new packs and everyone else does it". I don't understand how Tweaking physics (only a little bit), changing some teams or changing the menu costs £45 when it should be a free update or DLC. Now I don't play FIFA because I'm not a fan of football but if I were then I would rather have a longer development cycle and frequent updates than splashing out cash for the same game every year. Although I did buy every Tony Hawk game when it came out year after year but for that they actually changed and added things worth while (look at the changes made between THPS1 and THPS2 or THPS4 and THUG) and when you go back to play the older games it still feels enjoyable. -Wheatley
GTA3Rockstar
It's just a way to make even more money for game companies. There's your answer. This. Also, do you really think they would release, let's say, Madden 2006 for the Xbox 360 and only do updates and tweaks etc. over the past six years? No, because there would be no profit for them in doing so. Even if its minimal. It just makes sense for businesses, everything is about money anyways. Urban Legend
We as consumers must make the change...either that or spam the sh*t out of the Electronic Arts websites because they really are over doing it a bit. Tiger woods for example... new cost 60 USD and then if you were to buy every DLC it cost upwards 120 - 150 USD. But like I said we are the consumers...and we decide what to consume.
