J32T3R
I'm so tired of this we have had these BS snows that they hype up like it's gonna be a 20+ snow storm, usually ends up in a coating or plain rain
BullworthAcademy
Worst in 30 years?Seriously? I'm not even cold. I guess that would have something to do with the fact that you're indoors. Unless, of course, you're some kind of moron who chose to sit outside in this weather with his PC. In that case, bravo. Nope, I just went outside with gloves and I wasn't even cold. To be fair, it didn't feel as cold as it usually does when it snows here.. not to me atleast. In fact, I was almost too warm with just a raincoat on over a hoodie and tshirt. I definitely remember it being colder. Edited January 19, 2013 by OverTheBelow
SilentSeas
There's only been a minor flurry in central Essex, in most cases it hasn't even settled. Yet the local schools still felt the need to close, while half of the trains have been cancelled.
ainsz
Here's a tweet from Jeremy Clarkson a few days back: "@JeremyClarkson: People of the world. Stay away from Britain. It is locked in ice chaos. On high ground, the snow is 2cm deep. Authorities are losing control" It truly captures how "dildonic" our country is at reacting to snow. It's just cultures and their climates. Snow is a rarity in England. I know, I live in Nottinghamshire. We've got pretty good snowfall at the moment where I am! Slingaa
Here in Manchester, there's barely anything. There's constant slight flurries of it but it doesn't stick and it melts pretty much straight away. There's been no school/college closures round this area and not a substantial amount of traffic like there has been in other places. I'm in Chester and we've got a good three or four inches of snow so far (it's still snowing). Had to bloody cycle to and from work in it too. I'm not far from you, I live near Shrewsbury and we've had a lot of snow.

DarrinPA
We've been it pretty hard with this predicted 'three weeks of snow.' Governments put the weather level to Red Snow. As long as it's not yellow snow you'll be fine. I'm Jealous. Unfortunatly Chicago has been missed by every storm. The rest of the USA has had a decent amount, but here we've only had dustings. I WANT snow!

DarrinPA
That is one of the best thing to watch on Youtube, snowy or icy roads that everybody [pedestrians or cars] slid down into each other.
Guest
Oh, the joys of a downward sloping driveway. I slipped and hurt my arm whilst walking to the car. Snow isn't fun anymore. Oh, and here in Derbyshire it's only yellow warning for snow. sh*tty school stayed open. Can't be arsed to explain why, but the headteacher's a stuck up prick. Crokey
I find it pretty hilarious that on the Finland Sweden Norway axis this is everyday life during the winter and airports are never really closed form more than 20 minutes, but when it snows in the UK London all hell brakes loose. ...and the UK ceases. (and fixed) A light dusting here in Sunny Scotland, nothing special it's only when it reaches "measured in feet" things start to go arse for tit. Still, can't stand the stuff, hate the cold. El Zilcho
Thin layer here in the Fylde, Lancashire. We may be by the coast but there's more snow here than in Preston (at my college), as well as that irritating stealthy black ice that makes your life flash before your eyes when inadvertently skating across it. I want some decent snowfall so that if I'm freezing, at least I can admire the whiteness while I freeze my testicles off. Rebel
This morning at 6AM in Leicester was fine, it started snowing at about 9/10am and it stopped around 6pm. Either way, its not the worst I've ever seen but its f*cked up our roads. If you want to use a B road around here you're better off walking it than driving. I heared from the weather report its meant to be snowing until Sunday....well I'm not so sure about that here but either way its been bad enough tonight where I've had to go into work and I'm the only one there (apart from people who own it) so no deliveries and nobody to help me out. On a side note, its fun working in wellies. I'm not too fussed if it continues to snow, its quite nice. I'm going to be mad though if its not cleared enough by Tuesday when I'm going to IKEA. I disdain the pessimistic doom and gloom reporting that is spewed by the news when snow rolls around. Charlie Brooker perfectly summed it up once - it really was a case of television appearing to be on the same wavelength as me. epoxi
Haha, looks like the British act even worse when it comes to snow than here. Happens every year typical of us Brits lol. It's on the news how there is a big snow coming, so they send all the gritters out and it doesn't arrive. Then they give a date, warning we'll get a certain amount and no one believes them, the day comes and it doesn't stop! Buses, trains, airports, schools all close. Even the doctors want to go home. As much as I'd love to moan about public transport etc. , to be honest I think our geographical position that just makes predicting the weather so difficult. We are at the border of the Gulf stream and the icy North winds so the weather is pretty much a lottery.
MIKON8ERISBACK
The most of the United Kingdom has a very mild climate especially taking into account their high latitude with very little snow and lots of liquid rain except for a few mountainous regions in Scotland and portions of Ireland. In addition, England is an island which is surrounded by relatively warm ocean water moderated by the Gulf Stream and North Atlantic Current which helps to create warm air. As a result, major winter weather events are quite rare in most areas. The past few winters have been unusually brutal. Large amounts of snow have fallen and record low temperatures below the 0 degrees Fahrenheit/-18 degree Celsius mark have been reached in areas where it's normally mild enough to grow some species of palm trees. I really wish the global warming alarmists would quit changing their stories regarding the situation. First, global temperatures worldwide were forecast to rise by considerable margins to the point that Canadians would no longer have an impression of what a traditional Canadian winter would be, now their story is that although global temperatures are rising and ice caps melting, this may also result in cooler temperatures in other regions and the name was changed from "global warming" to "climate change". They have maintained their stance of anthropogenic "climate change" even though the Canadian Arctic is currently billowing in below average temperatures with unspeakably cold windchills hitting the 50 below mark. Getting back to the British issue, local utility companies are warning customers that their gas "boilers" may fail on them when faced with intensive demand. It is said to be the coldest winter in 100 years with temperatures hitting the -20 degrees Celsius mark. In most areas of Canada, this is not at all a far fetched scenario even with the moderating effects of the Great Lakes, but for the UK; a country with all those geographical features that I mentioned above, this is ridiculous, however, Mother Nature does move in mysterious ways. Schools all around have been cancelled for the time being and transportation in general is showing signs of illness, so really, there's no reason to go outside period unless it's to do a little shoveling. When shoveling, not only is extreme cold and it's effects on your body a concern, but so is the risk of heart attacks. As you all know, use common sense when dealing with a disaster such as this and remember that many Canadians and Americans actually have accidentally killed themselves by giving themselves heart attacks when dealing with the strenuous shoveling process. Overall Earth temperature is rising though. Only because we have cold winters again in our northern hemisphere doesn't mean it's everywhere like this. Look at Australia, they had the worst heat wave in a long time, and this is happening nearly every year now. I think that most of the global warming talk is overrated, but it's there. Now to the British weather at the moment: If I look at the surface pressure map you can clearly identify a high pressure system over scandinavia which is pushing cold air towards the UK, however this won't last forever. There's a low pressure system currently moving towards the UK which unleashed its power today, together with a warm front from an older low pressure system, hence the "heavy" snow fall. However this system will most likely not continue to stay there, and it should normally end up pushing warm air to the UK again, so the warnings about -20c are in my opinion totally overrated. If you check the weather forecast you can also see that there's rather going to be an increase in tempature again. London for example is 5c by Monday, in long term the forecast reaches over 10c by the end of January. This just proves my theory pretty much.
