Typhus
Well, I neighver! Seriously though, horses are beautiful animals, I would never eat one willingly. Horses have helped men for centuries in both agriculture and war, they are as faithful as dogs in my eyes. Perhaps that's why I find the concept of eating them distasteful. A product made out of the worst cuts of meat, e.i cuts of meat you aren't suppose to eat. And yes, McDonalds does sell ice cream, and ice cream sundaes. Sorry for derailing but I'm pretty sure you can/could eat all the cuts of meat of a cow if you really wanted to. I mean, sh*t didn't get wasted back in the stone age and they still don't get wasted in other countries. Just out of curiosity what parts ''can't'' we eat? As for the whole Tesco thing, they say they didn't know that they were being given stuff with horse meat but who knows. Seems kinda weird that they'd use horse to begin with if they were to put other meat in there. Personally, I'm not really bothered (maybe because I don't use Tesco) or maybe because that its meat and people obviously can't tell the difference in what they are eating. Either way, I'd be more annoyed if it was a scabby horse. Heh. It makes me wonder about what other meat products you get in all of these supermarkets - are they all straight up cow/pig/chicken etc or are they also full of things that are a little odd like horse. YOU THINK YOU'RE SO SMUG- I've decided to never eat burgers again at MacDonalds, I'd rather just stick to two portions of large fries! "I might have laughed if I'd have remembered how." Oddsock
Does anyone else not have anything against eating horse meat? Unless there are particular health risks from eating it, then meat is meat as far as I'm concerned. Reminds me though of when I used to buy what was literally named "Mixed Meat" while I was studying abroad in the Czech Republic. All my roommates made up rumors that I was eating horse meat. That was pretty funny.
Moth
Honestly, I've not eaten at McDonalds since watching Supersize Me. That poor mans liver was nearly destroyed. So you won't eat at McDonalds cause some stupid smuck decided to eat there 3 times a day and ordering the largest sizes of their food? Oh and the fact that he didn't exercise or do anything active during the entire period of the "experiment". What he did to his liver is his own damn fault and not of McDonalds, same thing applies when you try to claim McDonalds makes you fat. If you really cared, you wouldn't be eating there in the first place. And before you ask, I hate Mcdonalds, their food tastes like sh*t, well except their fries. I think it's because people keep horses as pets and they see them as something to love and not something to, well... eat . Um... Finn 7 five 11
^Your analogy is stupid. Typhus
Quite. Got no idea why there's such a resistance to eating horse in the UK. Horse usage in war, horse usage by the police, a tradition of horse riding as a recreational activity. As I said, horses are on the same footing as dogs in the minds of many people. Ziggy455
I believe it's down to tradition and such. Some people won't eat it because it's a rarity to see in a consumers perspective. Some people will eat horse but for me, I'm just used to my horses running the Grand Nationals or giving me lifts to places. It's an entirely opinionated reservation as to whether you want to eat it or not, or whether it's right or wrong. I'll agree that it's healthier than most meat, high in protein and such. I'm glad I never shopped at Tesco, but this does make you sort of worry what other markets put in their meat because I believe other supermarkets like Tesco actually have the same suppliers. Typhus
Funnily enough, I've heard that pigs are one of the five most intelligent creatures on the planet. No idea of the validity of this, but I heard it somewhere. Truth be told, I feel some pity for them. I have nothing against them, I feel a great sense of affection for most animals. In the near future, we may have synthetic meat. Imagine a world in which you can eat all the meat you want, but do so safe in the knowledge that no innocent beast died for your appetite. I think it's a real possibility. Edited January 18, 2013 by Typhus

We already have synthetic meat? Soy products that mimic the taste and texture of meat, albeit with a less appealing taste due to the lack of meat's typically outrageous fat content.
