American Gun Control discussion and GTA V

Sorry if this topic is already discussed here, i did a quick search, didn't find anything related.

Do you guys think the recent discussion on Gun Control in the United States will affect the release of GTA V.

How do you think the American press will respond to this game when it comes out?

Do you think parents will be influenced by the press and forbid their kids to buy this game?

In my country the politicians, media and parents don't hate on games at all. THere's never been controversy in my country 'bout games. We literally never have teenagers going on rampages for some reason too. The only thing I like about this place. Oh and no.

No.

GTAV will be an adult game, so what parents think shouldn't matter.

This topic will be ruined by hateful conspiracy idiots, then locked.

How should it effect GTA V when they have just released a shooting game for 6-year olds.

Because of the setting of this game, you walk in a city and can shoot up whatever you want. Games like for example, COD, MW, BF etc are also shooting games, but they are in a war setting so they will be considered simulation games.

After all the recent school shootings i won't be surprised if some politician stands up to ask for a ban on violent video games. Obama also anounced there will be a study on violent video games, see: http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/01/17..._n_2493716.html

How about we wait for such a ban to be put before congress before we get worried about it affecting GTA V? Because at the moment, there is precisely no sign that a ban is going to happen, or that if there was, it would affect V.

Give me a break. Video games like GTA reduce violence instead of raise violence.

After all the recent school shootings i won't be surprised if some politician stands up to ask for a ban on violent video games.

The U.S. Supreme Court last year ruled against a law in California that wanted to ban the sale of violent video games to minors. The constitution protects the sale of video games, and other forms of art and entertainment, through the First Amendment.

There simply is no legal backing behind banning violent video games, at all. It didn't happen with films, and it won't happen with video games. While they may be different in how you interact with these two different forms of entertainment, their development and sale is constitutionally protected within the United States.

As for press coverage, the Grand Theft Auto games have always had a lot of press coverage and attention from politicians. Before the very first GTA was sold, MPs in the UK Parliament were already talking about (and those recordings were used to advertise the game on the radio).

Ultimately, as for the question, "Will this affect the release of GTAV?". The answer is no in that it won't be different from any other GTA release.

You'll get the usual Glenn Becks talking about it, but this is the norm.

I believe that also, i'm trying to say that the general public that don't play video games have a completely different view on violent video games than the people that actually play those games.

The only people who honestly believe that video games will get banned are the sensationalists of the US. The same people saying that our guns will be taken away.

It is completely unconstitutional to ban something that is within the first amendment. If they ban games they will need to ban movies too. It just won't happen.

What MIGHT happen is stricter laws on sale of games to minors. And retailers might have more restrictions, possibly a harder esrb rating as well.

But these things are very hard to push through because of how unamerican it is. Don't worry.

Well put it this way, any interiors based on universities and high school campuses will more than likely be removed or changed to other buildings.

The same as the 9/11 impacted the final product of GTA 3

The only parents who will do this crap are the silly, blind, ignorant ones or the 'holier than thou' ones.

There won't be any new legal restrictions affecting Rockstar in the U.S. There's just no precedent for banning this sort of depiction of violence.

A more realistic challenge is commercial sensitivity to public opinion. As I mentioned in another thread, Rockstar doesn't need to emphasize gun violence in ads. Less than 15% of released GTAV screenshots show a gun in someone's hand!

It comes down to parenting.

If your kids a little anti-social creep, psycho, taking anti-depressants, that parent shouldnt buy that game for they're fuct up kid.

But if your kid can be mature enough to handle it without getting all fuct in the head, shouldnt be a problem.

my dad bought me gta 3 when i was 10, and he bought all of my other GTA's up until i was old enough but he knew i wasnt a little psycho haha.

Well ok, but that's for grown up people. I don't think they would cut it out because of the school shooting if they had programmed it already.

If they wan't something done, the government will use a fear tactic first. And nothing gets Americans on the side of lying politicians better than a good sob story. Why are we so stupid? And by we, I mean 90% of americans. Did you guys know tht it's so bad that they say if you don't give up your gun, you are mentally ill?

I completely agree america has an almost genius propaganda system.

Its so stupid, but it works on most americans.

As a gun owner myself, this whole media outburst on gun control really pisses me off, and why the f*ck is Piers Morgan making so much noise about it, his opinion is void, hes not even american.

I agree with you. Even though guns save FAR more than they kill the media always needs somthing to bitch about. Most people sit down on the're TV all day and watch Television. Television is a great way to get messages into someones mind. The government has been able to pass alot of unconstitutional laws because of television. People are too busy watching TV than to know about things that are happening. Almost like TV was made just for that reason...

I am pretty sure Rockstar confirmed that 9/11 didn't effect anything about GTA 3's release at all.
