Crumplet
The story won't be dark at all. You don't know that for sure, mate, as GTA-King said, don't let the vibrant, sunny atmosphere fool you. Trevor is a deeply disturbed, relentlessly unhinged psychopath with no moral boundaries (as of yet), Franklin is leaving the hood which in the eyes of some of his 'homies' may be perceived as betrayal, and Michael is a middle-aged man conforming to his former criminal lifestyle in order to establish some degree of excitement in his life. This game has a very large oppertunity to take a turn down a darkened road, when you think about it, it'd make little sense for this game to not be at least somewhat dark, in some aspects. BUT THE BENZ
On an emotional level it certainly won't be deeper than Max Payne 3....seeing the protagonist shed a tear, having sort of a breakdown? Unmatched!

Unmatched! Is it odd I didn't find myself very drawn into the story of MP3? don't get me wrong, it's a brilliant game and in no way am I bashing it, I honestly just didn't find the story to be all that intriguing to be completely honest. Off topic, I know, I'm just interested to see if anyone feels the same.
Hydro_PlayboyX
R* sure knows how to make you feel attached to the protagonist, i didn't play RDR but when I saw the ending on YouTube I felt a bit sad, and I cant imagine how I would feel if I played the whole campaign. I really hope that r* will keep that skill of making us attached to characters
Bonfy
I loved RDR, it's actually my favourite game ever. I love it's emotionality and all, but at the same time I didn't like GTA IV's seriousness that much. It just didn't feel right in a GTA world to me. I hope GTA V will be more lighthearted. Not at the SA level, but surely getting closer to SA than to IV.
aaronimpact
I'm all for a dark and gritty storyline. I don't mind fun in a realistic sense but I don't want no "green goo" storylines.

I didn't like the story much either, didn't really have any emotions coming out of me while playing the campaign. I might have misinterpreted the thread. Thought OP means the ingame character's emotions and how they were visualized and so on. I was referring to Max as seen in the intro. There he looks at the picture of his loved ones and starts to cry. A brilliant way to show the character's emotions I thought. An amazing cutscene. The whole intro is just brilliant. Personally I was drawn into the story, though it didn't touch me on an emotional level like being sad, or mad for what happened throughout the game. RDR or LA Noire's character development/endings certainly had a different impact than MP3 did. But also in MP3 there were occasions that had me like "daaaamn" , or "WTF?!" - but mostly I felt excitement. I was simply stunned from what I've seen and totally curious to see what happens next. My expectations for this game were high (Max Payne and I go a loooong way, to keep a rather long story short) but MP3 just blew me away in terms of graphics and gunplay, and the story kept me interested too. I was releasing endorphines like my life depended on it.
Algonquin Assassin
I loved RDR, it's actually my favourite game ever. Not at the SA level, but surely getting closer to SA than to IV. GTA IV wasn't that serious. Yes the whole driving force of Niko seeking vengeance wasn't the most happy one, but there were times in the story where it took a load off itself. The dialogue had plenty of sarcastic and witty undertone which tends to get underlooked and hell most of it came from Niko himself yet he's written off as a Debby Downer who always complained. Maybe I just understood him better than most and of course the in game internet is a prime resource too. R* were very clever interwining a serious context with a humouress undertone in GTA IV. Moreso than the GTA III era which relied on exaggerations and over the top characters IMO. GTA IV's approach to me was simple, smart, funny and sad all rolled into one. Master of San Andreas
Maybe if it goes deep to the point where maybe one of the protagonists get killed? like RDR? That would be really emotional. Ah yes.... I see Miami has a point there, GTA IV was more emotional than the whole III era.I mean there were alot of choices most importantly the Deal or Revenge thing. I can see R* introducing a character who you will grow to love, admire and generally feel connected to, then tearing them away in the most horrific manner possible, then putting you directly into a revenge mission, much like RDR. It's an incredible way to grip the player, and they know it.
ITSLOCBABY
They have a brilliant way in giving players the whole package. I thought GTA IV and TLAD had gripping, connecting story lines that pretty much made sense throughout. TBoGT I didn't really connect with, probably because I hated Gay Tony. I think GTA V will have a perfect balance between fun, humour and emotion. Probably each character's story will have a different feel to it. However I don't think the story will end well for Michael or Trevor. Michael won't be lucky enough to get out of 'the game' twice and Trevor, well he'll be his own downfall. I can see Franklin coming out of it a little like CJ. But I guess it's all speculation, can't wait to get into it!
