Did anyone here like Mafia II?

...and the ending was just awful, I hate cliffhangers and that cliffhanger was just awful...

Are you f*cking kidding me?

The ending was awesome! What f*cking cliffhanger?? Spoiler-> They kill Joey, because he wasn't part of the deal.

That was the best way they could have ended it really, that is what you'd expect from a film like the Godfather or Goodfellas.

Mafia II was and still is one of my favorite games, it did just about everything right in my opinion and the fact that you had to get gas just made it even better.

A lot of the time when people play another open world game, they compare it to GTA, which is a big mistake.

Mafia 2 never tried to imitate GTA in any way, it was based much more on realism and linear storytelling, not to mention it was set in a completely different time to any GTA game. I think that it was a very well designed game, and an enjoyable one, even if it doesn't have much replay value.

Same as Saints Row, although it is very similar to GTA, even the developers have said their not trying to compete directly with GTA, and they design a much more 'cartoonish, crazy' game.

I think due to the mass popularity of GTA, it's hard for any other open world to get a chance to prove themselves.

Mafia 1 is a masterpiece and I do not use that word lightly. It is actually my favorite game of all time if I had to single out one game.

Mafia 2 on the other hand was just a decent game. It was good enough that I wanted to finish it but not much of it was particularly memorable and the ending was purely bizzarre. I was disappointed that it largely couldn't capture the magic that made Mafia 1 so special, but, it would have been a miracle if Mafia 2 had done that.

Started off decent. I like how snow made it harder to drive, but it got annoying.

Every single aspect of the game was a fail. The city was boring, the characters boring, the story boring. something about mafia i think, but im not sure. The gameplay was frustrating, the missions infuriating, the DLC and cost etc, It's just what GTA would be like if you took all the fun out of it.

Even Saints Row 3 is better.

I wont be getting #3, at least not new.

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

I played the Demo and enjoyed the 'Simulation' handling. I don't plan on getting the full game tho.

I have not played Mafia II nor than Mafia I sadly, but it's a pretty cool Mafia video game from what I read in reviews and YouTube aswell. For Grand Theft Auto V beating Mafia II? Dude, why? It is just an awesome video game in all respect man. smile.gif

I loved Mafia 2, I got really immersed into the game and was disappointed once I had completed it! The DLC for it is good too, it has some great driving controls if you switch the handling to simulation!

They may say they don't want to directly compete but their actions show otherwise, like making that trailer 'comparing' the games

I didn't know so much people would have such negative things to say about it... "/ i never played mafia 1 so i guess I had nothing to compare 2 too. In actuality, I enjoyed mafia 2, especially the store robberies and wanted system. The gun play was indeed bad, and now that i read others reactions, I change my stance on it's car customization...at first I liked it (maybe because of the little garage scene that was used to show changes being made) but now i can totally see how it's lazy, preset changes just like a forum member said.

I hate to ever ask for anything SR3 related in GTA5 but that type of customization without the lame kiddy spin on it would be pretty awesome.

The Notorious MOB

Mafia II is better than GTA at portraying Mafia elements no doubt but that is Mafia's only focus so the developers don't need to give you a slice of life of working for several different gangs like GTA does. You also have to remember that the Mafia is very different nowadays to how it was in the 40s and 50s.. I think GTA IV captured this quite well. If the Mafia games continue on chronologically then the next game will probably be set in the 60s or 70s then the one after that in the 80s.. after the 80s the Mafia generally began to lose alot of power so they could likely only get one more game out of the franchise after that, because GTA moves with the current trends of certain periods the gang elements of their games never get stale.

I thought Mafia II was really solid, and I'm glad I played it. It did some things really well.

Problem is, for me at least, is that it didn't really feel like a "sandbox" game. It felt like there wasn't any good reason for it to be open-world. The city looked good, I enjoyed the driving, but there wasn't anything out there. The game was basically one linear mission to another, with dull driving sections taking you from one side of town to the other in between. Outside of that, there was basically zero content.

The main story was interesting, though, and I liked most of the missions.

Oh yeah that's great right? "Oh look an extremely rare car. Oh cool I'm halfway home and GOD DAMMIT OUT OF FUEL! Oh, greeeeeeeeeeeeat

dozingoff.gif wait, were you playing the same game??

That never actually happened in mafia 2, all found vehicles had more than enough fuel.

If it didn't, it never actually stopped working when you ran out, it just jerked around till you refueled.

I quite enjoyed it. I haven't played Mafia 1, so i had no expectations from the game. It was different in a good way, but did lack a few things. If i was to rate it, it'd be about 6 or 7 out of 10.

Master of San Andreas

Mafia II was one of the greatest games I ever played, the cars, the graphics ,the realism ,the petrol bunk, the speed limit and police laws (which were realistic) and of course robbing stores. It had features which any GTA Game didn't have.

But if it just had free roam after game I would have been very happy. There is the free ride mod in which you can free roam after game but it is only for PC though.

I find it hard to compare a game released in 2010,to a game (which has not yet released) releasing in 2013.(Especially a comparing with a GTA game on a GTA Forum)

Redneck Shotgun

The story and dialouge in mafia 2 was the worst sh*t ever. Ripping of goodfellas( which is a good movie) and still make it boring. And joes italian dialect was overdone and Vito felt like a retard.

I dont know if this off topic or not, because it is a sandbox game, and i will make it not off topic right now by asking- do you think GTAV will be better than Mafia II?

Why is this even a discussion? Mafia 2 was f*cking horrible!

Mafia II was awesome. Too bad there was nothing to do when you finished the game!

That was the biggest let down of MAFIA II

I like Mafia II. The story was decient, but moreso gameplay elements that made it a decient game.

If open world games implimented gas in vehicles, I think that Mafia II did it great and that it would please damn near all people who either like or don't like the idea of gas. (It took a LOOONG time to run out of gas, and when you did, the car just jerked around and drove slow.)

I felt like the police was good also. From the way they pulled you over for speeding (They actually don't pull me over unless I am like 20 miles over the limit), payment/bribing of law breaking, licence plate and wanted poster; If some of these were ever put into a GTA game, it would make the police AI more dangerous lol.

The amount of things you can buy: gas, car wash, food, drinks, guns, ammo, car customizing. A good varity of things to spend your money on.

Car handling was cool, moreso that you right trigger on your controller was truly like a gas pedal. If you put the handling on simualtion and pull the right trigger all the way on a car with some power, you actually do a standing burnout. Cars got dirty (like GTA 4), brakes squealed (GTA 4 took it a step further by making brakes squeal when your car is dirty), suspentions squeeked (GTA 4, when the car is dirty), road noise on different pavements (Can't remember if GTA 4 did, which I think so, but I know LA Noire did). But the one thing I like about R* is the transmission animation on their vehicles: On GTA 4, if you lightly pulled the trigger, the car would shift normally, but when you mash the gas, the car will do its RPM range on each gear. And in LA Noire, you could shift the gears if you let go of the trigger for a sec. (I think you can do the same in GTA 4)

I like Mafia II, but its hard to compare to GTA. GTA is a free roam, and Mafia II is a "open" linear story with free roaming elements.

My opinion, of course.
