How does any of that make the act of getting fuel itself any less boring?

It was like getting your car washed in GTA IV.

I'm sure that most people didn't bother with that, they just stole a new car.

For me, all my garages had black Sentinels, thus, everytime I took one for a cruise, I'd first go to the car wash.

If i was doing my assassin missions, I'd get my black n white suit, get in my black sentinel, get it washed and then drive to the pay phone to start the mission.

its Just my play style, it's optional. Isn't that was Open World games are about? Having the option to do it your way?

There was nothing in mafia 2 that forced you to keep your car and refuel it, you could just as easily steal another car.

So, my question is, 10 seconds to refuel with some neat animations, How many times did you endure this for it to become such a boring issue?

Petrol lasts FOREVER in that game. You can drive around for about 3 hours on a full tank and never need to re-fill. And in GTAIV there are only around 4 car washes. In Mafia II there are around 10 all spread around the city. And I'm pretty sure your car re-fills when you put it in your garage.

But in Mafia, however long in takes, it still is required for the user to keep the car he is using. The car washes in IV were completely 100% optional. You never had to go to one to keep your car. To suddenly add a fuel gauge to cars to GTA would be to force a type of gameplay style that a LOT of people do not want and was traditionally not in GTA; car washes, while traditionally not in GTA games, were not forced, so they are not a fair comparison.

I dont know if this off topic or not, because it is a sandbox game, and i will make it not off topic right now by asking- do you think GTAV will be better than Mafia II?

But seriously, I am playing it right now, and it doesn't seem like such a bad game to me. Not sure why it only got a 7.5. Its cool because it actually follows the real mafia code and depicts gangsters better than GTA imo which only has a bunch of rogue generic bad asses.

Graphics aren't so bad either. I think it is a good way of holding me over until GTA. For a while anyway.

I thought Mafia II was pretty great. What I liked most of all about it was how the missions were structured, where they would take up like a whole day in-game. It felt really immersive how you could see how one thing leads to another and stuff goes wrong and then at the end of the day as the sun is setting you return exhausted to your apartment and fall asleep. I hope that GTA V does that with longer missions, and the in-game time effectively stopping when you're on a mission, only progressing at certain points. Given that they are trying to go for a more cinematic take on the series I really hope this will be the case.

A better comparison is having to stock up on armor or ammo before a mission. In GTA it's nearly always necessary to grab a bulletproof vest before starting a mission. If they made armor less necessary and added a fuel gauge, it could only be better in my opinion since gas stations are easier to find than bulletproof vests. Also, there's nothing saying that having to fuel your car will be necessary at all, since you can always steal a new one.

It's the polar opposite twin of Saints Row: it's not a bad game, it's just not what GTA should be because it takes its concept to the extreme. In Mafia II's case, it takes itself WAY too seriously.

I'd rather GTA to take cues from it than Saints Row however.

Yeah. Except for the pain in the ass shooting.

I remember the run up to it, with those awesome trailers and such. They gave the impression that Mafia II was going to be everything that Mafia I was.

When finally playing it, i was amazed with everything. The atmosphere, gameplay and the way everything was executed, I really enjoyed the game all the way through. Then it just ended.

Playing it a second time though, the game was just tedious - It was a been there done that occasion. I think it's because of how story driven and linear the game is. For me time, it's strictly a one time game.

I do appreciate the game for what it is and if you stick to the story and treat the city as a backdrop and not a playground, you'll enjoy it a lot more and I think that was 2k's intention. Although Mafia I is an all round masterpiece.

IMO, Mafia TCOLH had a better story than all GTAs but not RDR. Mafia II's story, on the other hand, was average but I really wanted to know what happened to Joe without having to find out in Mafia 3... GTA and RDR are a lot more fun to play.

Yeah you could off the main menu, you could select what chapter to play. Ithink it was so you could go back to collect Playboy mags (Best collectible ever) and wanted posters.

Yeah, Rockstar could learn something there.

I'd rather collect pages of Playboy mags than to kill flying rats.

It was a great game. I loved the storyline and the game's pacing. The thing is, there's like no replayability value in Mafia II, you could only play it maybe once or twice and then that's it. The game lacks side missions and side activities, which GTA V will have plenty of, so I'm sure GTA V will be a lot better. Mafia II is a well-made game though.

It wasn't a horrible game, but if I had to decide its value, to me it would be worth no more than $30. Even though I paid the full $67.79

When I wanted to do free roam, what I would do, is I would wait until the game gave me a passive objective, like driving to Joe's house, but instead I would go rob stores, buy guns, explore, look at the in-game pornography, etc... lol.gif

Some things that I liked in Mafia 2 that should transition into GTAV:

-Aiming your weapon resulted in a RDR-like aiming system for s few seconds. Your character would hold his gun out, aiming it, without you doing anything. This would be useful for when you're running, going around corners, freefalling, maybe even climbing.

-Minor crimes result in a ticket

-More severe crimes can be bribed for the the right price

-Food/beverages at the safehouse that give you a temporary health boost (until you get badly damaged again)

-Ability to have every weapon in the game all at one time. Who likes picking tiers? Give us all guns, but make it ablanced by sharing the ammo.

-Ability to rob stores' cash registers along with their merchandise (my favourite feature)

-Gas. It's not even a hassle; the only time I re-fueled it in Mafia 2 was because I wanted to see it in action. Besides, gas in V is pretty much confirmed via the Gas Can weapon.

EDIT: Oh, and Porn! I award Mafia 2 for best in-game collectable. Ever.

I liked most chapters, but it was reaaaaally slow. The car models are accurate, but their speed should be faster...

It also had too much driving to the other side of town(which is really boring) and fewer shootouts(the only thing I liked

in the gameplay.) Weapons had bad bullet accuracy, hich means they had good model/texture accuracy for 1943-53(long story huh?).

I also liked the playboy collection( blush.gif ) and Vito was a good character.

Compared to GTA V,I think it will be COMPLETELY different. Some features will be cut and others will be added by R*.

IN GTA V's storyline however, maybe one of the protagonists gets busted (remember Ajax in The Warriors?) and you go to prison like in Mafia II

That's all I think.

I really liked it, but I think it's largely misunderstood. Kind of like LA Noire really.

It makes me cringes when people complain that you can't do this and that in free roam because to me it's not a "sandbox" game in the sense GTA is. Fuel and speeding tickets were easily avoidable. I think I only filled up once and never got a speeding ticket because I always used the speed limiter when appropriate.

The city of Empire Bay is well designed too. One of the very few cities IMO to give GTA IV's LC a run for its money in terms of detail. The only real gripe I have is it's a bit short.

In saying that it's a different game to GTA. It shares very little in common actually. It's more in line with LA Noire which is another game that puts heavy emphasis on its respective time period with the city as a back drop and story driven also.

I'd honestly take Mafia II over most games. I like to like the games most don't. wink.gif

Agreed very short

Mafia 2 was on "OK" game and im being generous at that.

The story was pretty good and the graphics and realism were a plus, but i felt all the missions had the same design, you were either a gunman or a chauffeur for your mob friends or both.

It had next to nothing to do outside the story but then again a lot of people say it was never meant to be an open world game.

They also cut a lot of content before release.

I think thats comparing 2 very different games, they have a few similarities but theyre quite different.

IMO though i prefer the GTA series so i know ill like V better.

Oh yeah that's great right? "Oh look an extremely rare car. Oh cool I'm halfway home and GOD DAMMIT OUT OF FUEL! Oh, greeeeeeeeeeeeat, now I get to keep this sh*t compact!"

Reloading ammo is one thing. It takes maybe 1 to 2 seconds. Refueling takes at least a minute, a minute during which nothing is happening. Not to mention ammo is only used when you want to use it, whether it's engaging in mission based firefights or just shooting cops and pedestrians. Now, unless everyone is planning to walk and bike everywhere (Spoiler Alert: I'm definitely not), then everyone who drives in the game will HAVE to stop to get fuel at some point, which sucks. I don't like getting virtual gas. Buying ammo is at least optional for rampages and shootouts, since melee weapons are also available. "What about bikes?" What about bikes? Why the hell should I have to stick to bikes instead of driving my favorite sports cars around because some jack off wanted fuel and realistic fuel consumption?

Like it or not, this will drastically force me to change my gameplay style. Ammo is not necessarily a necessity. You have cars that you can use as weapons and you've also got melee and the guns and ammo the bad guys drop. Unless every car I hit drops free gasoline and I can fill up by running it over, there's no way I'm going to accept this feature.

f*ck.

Guess I can look forward to cleaning toilets in V now! Fantastic. Well, I've recently (about an hour ago) gotten back into justice league stuff, so I guess Arkham City could use a bit more play time.

The narrative, atmosphere , graphics and mechanics was totally awesome, one of the best games ive played, the only things that sucked were the length of the game.

But gta 5 will be totally better.

No. They didn't.

Yes, that news story popped up a while back saying that 2K were helping Rockstar North with GTA:V. But then 2K came out and issued a denial. Most people know this, but there's still the odd person, like your good self, that missed the subsequent denial news item.

Without a doubt one of my favourite games (after GTA5 obvs, and that's not even out yet wink.gif ) I loved pretty much everything about it. But then I read that there's a craaazy amount of cut content, like a full games worth, so disappointing. I think GTA5 should depict mobsters like they did in Mafia II... But then again it was the 50s.

I liked it until the story missions finished, I had no interest in it after that. I still own it though.

It didn't take long to notice the cut & paste npc's. I remember a mission icon remaining on the map, even though I knew I'd completed it. There was a, what seemed like a 'random encounter' (fixing someone's car) at the beginning of the game & I thought that was cool. Nothing like that happened again throughout the game. Just a wasted opportunity all round.

I think the best thing that Mafia 2 had was the 'crime scene' feature.

If you robbed a clothes store, and got away, you could stand on the other side of the street and watch police go inside and investigate and actually spend time at the crime scene after you've left, which is something GTA has never had.

In GTA the crime is completely forgotten about as soon as you lose the police, even if you've murdered a crowd of people on a busy street, the police will just carry on with their lives.

I think that this added to the realism of the game, but still, GTA is and always will be superior overall.
