Did anyone here like Mafia II?

I dont know if this off topic or not, because it is a sandbox game, and i will make it not off topic right now by asking- do you think GTAV will be better than Mafia II?

But seriously, I am playing it right now, and it doesn't seem like such a bad game to me. Not sure why it only got a 7.5. Its cool because it actually follows the real mafia code and depicts gangsters better than GTA imo which only has a bunch of rogue generic bad asses.

Graphics aren't so bad either. I think it is a good way of holding me over until GTA. For a while anyway.

You know GTA V will be better than Mafia 2. There was no proper end-story free-roam and the ending was just awful, I hate cliffhangers and that cliffhanger was just awful. Also the car handling was sh*t and the sorry excuse for car customisation (preset upgrades, car paint and changing numberplate) was just terrible too. Good story though, apart from the fact that the last mission glitched out for me and I spent like 2 days figuring out how to fix it.

I tried to like it, but there was too much i simply didn't like at all. For one..the guns didn't feel right, not satisfying enough when i used them. I didn't dig the characters and the story. And except for a few missions it just felt...sh*t...boring to me. Loved the first one, II was a big let down.

I loved Mafia II. I'd have to say it was one of my favorite games.

But, I do think that GTA 5 will be by far better than Mafia II though. Seeing that GTA's map will be huge, more things to do, etc. There were some things in Mafia II that would cool to have in V.

Godfather 1 was better than Mafia 2. that game failed to deliver everything a mob game SHOULD deliver. it had no rackets to take over and protect, no hitman missions, no drug missions, no "protect the boss" missions, no nothing....

but i DID however like the Store Robbery missions, those should definitely be in GTA5.

Mafia 2 was a pretty decent game, i liked how they implemented the whole gas feature it seemed right, for the question of whether or not GTA V will be better than mafia seems almost like a rhetorical question. GTA IV was better than mafia 2, hell GTA SA was better than mafia 2. The game was good it just didnt feel right compared to the other GTAs.

I did to a certain extent. One thing in particular that I loved was the robbery mechanic. This was simply amazing. I also liked bribing cops and the music. But overall I would rate it a 7/10. Since it lacked important features.

Don't get me started on M2. Cut content, DLC must haves, short story span, undeveloped characters, and a whole lot of garbage in between. The game strived for realism and failed on the fun part

Mafia 2 was awesome.

You had fuel

You could get speeding *tickets* and surrender to the cops for a fine. (The best feature)

You could rob gas stations and make a clean getaway

I have hoped that Rockstar borrow some elements from Mafia 2, regardless, Mafia 2 wasn't as good as GTA IV.

Mafia 2 can not be compared to GTA V.

Look at it this way, if you had a choice between GTA V and Mafia 2, Well, you'd pick GTA V.

Now, Mafia 3 could be a different story. Either way, GTA will always be a preferred game in my collection.

I loved the game to be honest. I haven't played it in months though. Upon completing it, I gave it to my little cousin. I may get it again. I had a little gripe with how you lost the nice place you had and never got a nice place to replace it.

Mafia 2? It's the biggest waste of money I have ever spent money on. The open world is completely redundant, losing all your stuff and failed drug deal plot points are re used like hell, and the game itself makes me do chores. CHORES! Cleaning toilets, lifting crates, selling cigarettes, driving my drunk friends home because I'm apparently a damn soccer mom, and a bullsh*t cliffhanger ending.

I wouldn't pick mafia II above Body Harvest, let alone the GTA series.

Lock n' Stock

Only played the demo version. Fun I suppose. Cover system worked well, car handling was decent, physics were pretty good and the city had enough detail (less so on the PS3 version because of lazy programming). The cutscenes even had great voice acting and almost looked pre-rendered. I was turned off all together though by the linear setup, why would you not include a free roam?

The linear set up is the least of the game's problems. If you don't like constantly sitting in traffic and a bunch of little chores scattered everywhere, then run. Run far away.

Although if you do get it and like it, there's DLC episodes which have free roam. Not that the free roam adds much though, as the city basically lacks any side activity of any kind besides maybe robberies and rampages.

My thoughts exactly. The first Mafia was a classic. The second was an underdeveloped cash-in.

Speeding tickets. The most annoying part of the game. Every time I speed. Every time I hit a car. It's f*cking annoying. It really is. How am I supposed to have fun destroying stuff when I get cops on me every 2 seconds.

As for fuel, I tried stopping at the gas station. Not fun. At all. I don't see how anyone could consider it fun. You just sit there and watch a guy fill up your car. It's not exciting, it's not enjoyable. I don't get why people would ever want it in GTA V.

I loved Mafia. The cinematic cutscenes, realistic driving physics and especially the quite amazing soundtrack, it was a great game in my opinion.

But you must keep in mind that Mafia II was aimed to be more of a story-driven game rather than anything else, and GTA V on the other hand doesn't fall on the same category as Mafia; it's an [open-world] sandbox game, you can't compare both games, specially on a GTA forum where most (if not all) members would be biased toward GTA obviously.

I LOVED certain things about it like the music, atmosphere, police system. The car handling was and still is the best any game has ever had and I don't think GTA V is going to top that.

But because SOOO many things were cut, making the storyline incomplete, the sidemissions nonexistant, and a lot of characters gone, it gets a lower score.

The whole time i played it, I only had to refuel once.

It wasn't tedious and it wasn't repetitive like trying to feed your character before he dies.

The fuel system in that game made it awesome to have that feature.

Of all the cars I stole, the lowest fuel level was a quarter.. which on a continuous play would last you well over 3 hours (if you kept the same car)

Hmm. I have to disagree, GTA IV has better driving physics in my opinion.

Strange game, for some reason I actually like it but there were many things that annoyed me. The speeding tickets ect were interesting at the start but they really pissed me off near the end. Also not a fan from losing health when crashing with your car. I could post a whole list of the things I didn't like but I cba. Personally I'd say the game was ok, nothing more, nothing less.

How does any of that make the act of getting fuel itself any less boring?

I really liked it, but I think it's largely misunderstood. Kind of like LA Noire really.

It makes me cringes when people complain that you can't do this and that in free roam because to me it's not a "sandbox" game in the sense GTA is. Fuel and speeding tickets were easily avoidable. I think I only filled up once and never got a speeding ticket because I always used the speed limiter when appropriate.

The city of Empire Bay is well designed too. One of the very few cities IMO to give GTA IV's LC a run for its money in terms of detail. The only real gripe I have is it's a bit short.

In saying that it's a different game to GTA. It shares very little in common actually. It's more in line with LA Noire which is another game that puts heavy emphasis on its respective time period with the city as a back drop and story driven also.

I'd honestly take Mafia II over most games. I like to like the games most don't. wink.gif

I like driving fast in sandbox games, so the fact that I am unable to do so without having to evade the cops again and again really gets me mad.

You're right, though. It isn't a sandbox in the sense that GTA is. So why the f*ck do people keep asking for features from it? What would traffic laws or gas add to V?

It's the polar opposite twin of Saints Row: it's not a bad game, it's just not what GTA should be because it takes its concept to the extreme. In Mafia II's case, it takes itself WAY too seriously.

I'd rather GTA to take cues from it than Saints Row however.

I feel the opposite.
