How city destruction SHOULD WORK!

People seem to think IF buildings are destructible, then they should have to be totally destroyed, and turned into nothing more than dust. That is totally pointless, and would use FAR to much data.

 

If i was to chose how and what destruction should be in the game in terms of city destruction, and giving our gens restrictions..this is what i would do.

 

Here are the things that should ONLY be destructible.

 

Power stations- Destroying these should cause a huge boom!!!! but its not the explosion itself that causes the most damage. What ever power station is taken down should result in the close down of each city. E.G. The closes power station to Los Santos city that is shut down should turn of almost all power in the city, causing alarms to go off, almost no lights from buildings, night clubs to close down, and after time, cause rioting. For a small time, during the worst part of rioting, clothing and other buy-able things are free.

 

Radio towers- Destroying radio towers should result in the loss of radio stations and police communication. Radio stations in cars are off air, and instead of our normal stations there is a long (off air) tone, or "We will be back shortly" tone. and after time, alternate stations will pop up for us to select, with really crappy djs, and very very...very alternate music. As for how police wold work, it would take a LONG time to get a felony. If you shoot down a bunch of cops, unless any survive you get no wanted level at all, and depending on how many radio towers you took down, the police stars should just be question marks indicating that total loss of communication has occurs.

 

Bridges- Simple, placing the correct amount of C4s on bridges, should be detonated to make them collapse isolating the city.

 

Now..A very controversial thing but i can guarantee, when we are on free roam, we WILL see some fool drive into a building in a jet, but if rock star decide to make this have a impact, then it shouldn't be as easy as just crashing a plane into a building, you should have to place explosives in the place, and hit the correct part of a building, at the right speed, while detonating the explosive. This should be the same for every building, but not to make them collapse, just a fire ball with black smoke.

 

 

So what you think guys, i know the debate of destroying things is heavy anyway, but these are just my ideas.

The only destructible thing i would want in GTA is if your taking cover behind walls and wooden objects....thats it

The only things that should be destructible are the small things, benches, telephone poles, fire hydrants, bus stops, hot dog stands, etc.

 

I could see them adding large crack effects to buildings after explosions, but nothing more.

It wasn't open-world but it had amazing destruction in it.

I don't think it is possible. Let's say you destroy some buildings, would it be dissapeared or will it be rebuild in a few minuts? And if they don't rebuid it, you can then destroy whole the city and that will make it impossible to finish some mission..

What are you trying to say? These are completely different games.

 

You can't compare a game that tries to simulate a real world with simple war games.

What are you trying to say? These are completely different games.

How about after the player has left the site, construction crews appear to rebuild the destroyed area. And in around 7 days, the building will be fully repaired.

I'm just saying that they can handle detailed types of destruction.

Look at Battlefield 3. There are... ~3 houses you can destroy completely. And those are repetitive placed all over the maps. The destruction is impressive the first times you play it, but you will notice it's alway more or less the same. So unless you want a city full of the same looking buildings, this is not happening (yet).

The problem is that you're comparing your proposed vision of GTA destructibility with warfare games. It's one thing to destroy structures on a battlefield. But it's somewhat impractical in GTA.

 

What if you go destroy a good number of the major buildings? What then? The buildings are gone, it's nothing like Los Santos (L.A.) any more. All you've got are big mounds of rubble. If they were to magically spring back into being buildings in just a few hours or even a week the game loses all credibility and the immersion is lost.

 

What happens about buildings that you need later in the game? They'd have to be protected. If you are prevented from destroying some buildings, but can decimate others, that won't be plausible either. It'd just look really weird.

 

For me a fully destructible environment is just not practical for a game like GTA.

instead of city destruction i would like the game to just have better environmental destruction. what i mean is that for example when you try to drive something very heavy like a tank over the top of a car you should be able to squash the car almost completely (like in Prototype or Saint Row 3) rather than just partially damaging it. and i don't like the trees in all of the GTA games being indestructible, they should be destructible like the traffic lights (the post).

I want the game to have Crysis (IF possible) or Just Cause 2 destruction, Tree destruction was f*cking incredible with JC2

 

 

 

Also, Red Faction Guerrilla has the best destruction, It's fully dynamic unlike BF3's, It would TOTALLY impossible to have that kind of destruction.

I think it's still too much for this gen's consoles. but there should be a bigger variety of particle effects (sparks, fire, dust, etc) for blowing things up.

 

You could expand on what was in IV and have pillars and corners of buildings crumble, exposing rebar / insulation on just about every building.

Destruction is good? Yeah like for a 2008 game, Even BC2 had less scripted destruction, Such a shame, I would NEVER want a new game with BF3 destruction.

I'd rather it be like JC2, there are big structures that can be destroyed but they aren't huge buildings, but are still pretty big and have a neat explosion.

 

That combined with chipping away cover would good.

I hope there are more destructible thing this time ONLY in free-roam online.

I mean the delay, and what was said in take 2s conference call should include these.
