MiamiVice1984
If we dont get a release date this month i think its safe to say its been delayed within R*. And they dont have to make the delay public since they never gone public with a release date.
Miss Darko
^ Well, if it slips past Spring then they'll have to announce that the game will no longer release in the Spring, so we'll definitely be aware of such a delay.

rampage08
so what you're saying is that, they will put some new, never-before-seen infos on the new website ? Lots of information I'm sure still to be released. They did allude to some of the things they have yet to discuss, like the economy and multiplayer. And not sure if everyone's aware, but these updates usually happen over several phases or "updates". That's how it's always been. So not saying this is how it's going to be, but for example, imagine a launch with various information/features/images, and then later on, a new section opens up on Multiplayer alongside the related previews. That's just speculation though based on how they've done things over the years. ah i see, thanks we'll see then, it would be awesome if its like what you've said

I remember how that was for GTA: Vice City and SA, lots of hidden video and pictures content to discover, really cool stuff. I think that was the case for GTA IV as well. I'm worrying about nothing, it's not time to worry yet.

Snake Without a Tongue
Look at the amount of coverage RDR, LA Noire and MP3 received, it was A LOT! Those were all new titles. They had to be sold to the public. GTA sells itself. But yeah, if the end of this month and next month don't produce some marketing, it'll probably mean a delay. MosquitoSmasher
There could be an internal delay, let's say they are aiming for April, it's possible that it will get delayed to May...but we won't know about it. But it's also possible they announce it public for April and still delay it to May, like what happened to Max Payne 3. Any other delay means late 2013 and i don't see that happening. Coral_City
Why do so many of you think it's going to be delayed or something is wrong - because the lack of f*cking NEWS? Keep in mind the Housers have mentioned they're not keen on releasing ridiculous amounts on info, and part of the experience is learning about the game when you play it. We already have the basic knowledge about the game, and seen a couple of trailers. That should be enough to let you know if you want it. But no, it's not about that anymore! You just want to know, know, know! It's like the withdrawal of info causes you to be more idiotic, and refuse to actually stop and think. Rubbish. Just because it's GTA, doesn't mean they're immune to lack of marketing. It will hurt them in some capacity.
Andreas
But i do remember that GTA IV and pretty much any Rockstar game that released after that received a sh*tload of coverage.[...] Still, shouldn't we be seeing more marketing by now? You know..those big ass posters on skyscrapers? GTA IV was released in April 2008 and with some calculations I made a couple of months ago, I figured out that today there are 5.7 times more consoles on the market than in March 2008 so a month before GTA IV was released, and still about 3.6 times more consoles than back in March 2009! The small console base and the fact that GTA IV was the first openworld game in HD with RAGE from Rockstar Games, were most likely the reasons why Rockstar had to promote the game the way they have done it. Other Rockstars titles like Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire and Max Payne 3 had heavy marketing campaigns because they are smaller titles and obviously not as famous as Grand Theft Auto, although RDR was the reason that Take-Two's fiscal year 2011 was the best Non-GTA year in their history but that wasn't expected. Also if I am not mistaken then the poster on skyscrapers will happen in the last couple of months before the release if not even slightly later! Unless Rockstar is simply staying true to what they said..about keeping plenty of information back. You have answered your own question. GTA V is Rockstars biggest title yet, alone the fact that this is the end of the current console cycle tells us, that the game will be this, what GTA San Andreas was in the PS2 and XBox era; the biggest title of the whole console era from Rockstar. GTA is more than 15 years old now and it is so famous that it markets itself. Sorry but you're out of your mind if you think February can go by with no release date and substantial news and still launch in Spring. We're not a good 5-6 months till launch. That puts us at June 15-July 15 you realize that right? We're 3-4 months from launch. We have a release window which is Spring 2013. Red Dead Redemption was delayed a few times, later then the game should have been released in April 2010 but Rockstar announced in early March that the game has been pushed back from April 27th to May 18th. In other words; it's not that absurd to think that the release date for GTA V could be announced in March for a release in May. Rockstar tries to avoid any delays so they might go that far, we will have to see. IV's release date was announced at the end of Janaury 2008. Although I'm a PC guy, it was pretty cool from Rockstar to announce the release date of GTA IV to my birthday. I hope that Rockstar will give me a gift again in exactly eight days. OriZarhiKing5
IMO, we can consider the box art reveal the kick-off of the all out marketing campaign. They are just doing things differently this time around. That way we will have more to learn about the game and we can get more out of it. This will be the 101'st time that the marketing officialy starts according to the fans. Every time something new releases everybody says it's the beginning of the marketing campaign... gevans81
I've resigned myself to the fact that GTA V won't be out until October at the earliest, if in fact it does come out in Spring /Summer well then that's a nice little bonus. AtomicPunk
The game is supposed to come out between April and June. Sure that's still a few months away from now, but aside from the cover story and the few previews, we know so very little. Don't get me wrong, personally i prefer that, not knowing a whole lot about this game, i much prefer having to find it out all by myself while exploring. But i do remember that GTA IV and pretty much any Rockstar game that released after that received a sh*tload of coverage. Take for example radio stations and the songs that will be on it...except for Radar Love and the Nightride FM station we don't know much else. Then again....it was March in 2008 when they revealed them for GTA IV at the time, so i guess this is not much of a concern. Still, shouldn't we be seeing more marketing by now? You know..those big ass posters on skyscrapers? I'm probably worrying about nothing, cause we ARE getting the box-art reveal this month and that should hopefully mean the start of a bit more marketing. It's clear though that there was a whole lot more coverage and marketing for GTA IV compared to GTA V so far and i don't know..i guess i find that a bit worrisome. This is their biggest and most ambitious GTA yet, i guess you'd expect to see a bit more coverage on it. Unless Rockstar is simply staying true to what they said..about keeping plenty of information back. Look at the amount of coverage RDR, LA Noire and MP3 received, it was A LOT! Just like ya'll i'm so looking forward to this game, so much more than any other goddammn game this year, i just don't want any negative news regarding a release. Anyone else on the same boat as me or not at all? You're right, man. It doesn't make any sense at all and here lately, it's had me wondering too. It's like, everytime we think marketing has started, R* pulls back and goes all silent again. That sh*ts gotten annoying, for real. Why isn't their an interactive website by now? If R* truly intend on releasing V in April-June, then they need to get this train going. It's like they still aren't sure or something. I will be so pissed if they delay it 'til October. R* isn't even talking about it. They should be making some appearences or releasing little tidbits or screenshots to keep the hype train going. I think in the marketing area, R* are complete idiots who are not 'intouch' with their fanbase. Also, keep in mind that it's January 16 2013 and we have no release date yet. That's troubling to me. Miss Darko
Isn't that the way it always works, though? Info and screens come out in short bursts, followed by periods of silence. R* doesn't really do the whole 'bit of info every other day' thing, and nor should they. They've even stated that they want to hold back on information for this game. The only important bit of info is the release date, and that should come in due time. And it's not like marketing ends once the game is released. I'm not completely brushing away concerns. A delay is always possible until the game goes golden, but I think it's a fallacy to say that R* isn't acting as they always do.
Dutch Psycho
only 1 week ago they released some artwork and the anouncement of the boxart reveal later this month. so first we wait for the box art reveal and see what happens after that they still got lots of time to reveal third trailer and info, release date etc.theres no need for panic.theres no release in feb and march for sure thats 59 days(include weekends) + 14 days to go this month. thats about 73 days atleast for them to give us what we want and that's a lot of time. tiringthepigpen
I think the current media reporting and Obama crusade against gun violence is going to put a damper on R* marketing this game. They'd be smart to keep off the radar right now. Take-two, the parent company of R* is reporting earnings on Feb 15th or 17th. I suspect the forward-looking income section of the report will be a big indicator of what quarter GTA V will be launched.

killahmatic
No offense, OP, but this topic is pointless. Basically because the biggest information related to the game usually wont come out until the final months, and at this point we still have a solid 3-5 months. Now, I cant tell you the timeline of every GTA release, I don't keep that stuff in my head, but this feels generally the same as every release before. a few trailers, a bunch of screens, a couple interviews and features, cover comes out... more details as the game gets close, and then they release it. Nasir_Jones
We're completely fine. Spring release is still the target for release. It's been a month since the tragedy. We will see the box art reveal this month and a trailer in February. R* is good at handling these kinds of things.
