From what I gathered, some people think Michael's too old, but most everyone is cool with his backstory. As for Franklin, people either hate him because they think (1) he's just another CJ, or (2) they don't want to play the hood/banger guy. The people that like him are almost the exact opposite of the first two examples. Those that like him would also like to know more, and are generally pleased so far. This brings me to Trevor.

It seems everyone is okay with him just being a psycho. I can't wait to play as him, but when I'm not taking certain liberties with him that I wouldn't dare take as Mike or Frankie, I'd like there to be some depth to him. I'm not just talking backstory. I want him to be more than a laugh in a cutscene, or the holy f*cking sh*t guy. My fear is that R* added him last(fact), and he's not gonna be a well rounded character. People say Franklin's uninteresting, but I see Trevor as the least developed of the trio.

Just my thoughts.

I read somewhere that he displays emotion or compassion during the game in the right circumstance. All of these characters are fully fleshed man. Don't worry.

I hope if you randomly switch to Trevor that he'll be standing on a mountaintop crying in a thunderstorm.

LMAO! good times, good times.

@Bluepolitician: I hope your right. I really wanna play as three well developed characters.

Everybody think they "know" who these characters are from the tiny sampling we've received through a couple of trailers, screenshots and articles based on very limited exposure to the game. I'm sure there is a lot more to these 3 characters than can be assumed from the information thats been revealed so far.

As far as the information they have gave us, I personally LOVE Trevor and I think he is going to be one of the best characters in the whole gta series.

I think he'll be one of the funest charcters we've played, but I don't know. In my opinion, going by what we know at the time. Trevor couldn't hold a title on his own. People will say the same about Franklin, but we haven't seen much of him. Trevor's had a little more exsposure, and people just seem to accept that he's only a psycho. Just saying.

Yeah, some people think he's old but he isn't. He is "only" in his early 40's. bored.gif

Actually there are multiple articles about the protags. I was reading one yesterday that went pretty deep into the characters and each of their backgrounds. We all know more about the protags than the map itself. I woul honestly say we all have a pretty good understanding of the three however the game itself is going to reveal a lot more.

If you want to add some depth to a psycho, R* should add his other side, to be rational with certain things .

for example,he treat animals very friendly and never hurt them.

See, that's what I mean when I say everyones just accepting him. Same age as Michael, but since he's a psycho it's alright. By the way I don't have a problem with Michaels age. To me he's the Liam Neeson type.

OT: I think they could've gave Trevor something more. I would love if he used to be a crooked cop who worked bank jobs with Michael, who got dishonorbly discharged from the air force, and tryed to do standup comedy, but failed, and then tryed his hand at selling drugs. A whole laundry list of failures, but that would give him depth to me.

Trevor...just being a psycho....

Its only peoples opinions on characters that we basically know nothing about.

as for "i hope theres more to Trevor" I'm sure we'll see a little bit why he prefers to live in the middle of nowhere, and we'll get to see his military past somehow benefit what he'll be doing during the story.

His back story seems fairly interesting. He's an ex military pilot who also has a past in doing bank heists with Micheal, and now deals with the drug trade. He may "just be a psycho", but seems to have a past that would do that to a person. I believe one interview even mentioned that there was more to him than meets the eye (paraphrasing)

I don't dislike any of the protags, but I will say this....where as Mike may have the more interesting back story, he doesn't seem to have the best side activities. I mean Trevor can light gas trails (at least I think it's exclusive to him) and take to the air immediately, Franklin has chop (rather he is playable or not is yet to be determined, but he does serve some purpose) and possibly repo missions, whereas Micheal can do yoga. He might have some better activities than that, but most of the ones we have heard about sound rather boring compared to the others abilities. I have serious worries that some version of "lets do some yoga, honey" or "how bout a game of tennis dad"will replace "hey cousin, lets go bowling" as my main annoyance...only bowling sounds like more fun than either of those things, and I only ever bowled because I was forced too.

see no evil...

Ever drink old milk? Eat rotten meat? Bad cheese? When you swallow it, you digest it. And when you digest it you get sick from it. Your body absorbs it, and when your body realizes it’s no good your body needs to release it quickly, in some way. It’s the same with evil. When we see evil, we digest it, and when we digest it the evil becomes a part of us. We then need to release it in some way, which often has a negative result. Seeing violence causes us to act more violently. Similarly, when we “See Evil” we internalize it. And when we internalize evil, it becomes a part of us, which means eventually the evil needs to find its way out. If it does not exit, the evil wreaks havoc on our bodies and minds.

So, when I think of Trevor (and the fact that R* labeled him the See No Evil wise monkey), I think of a man who has alot of hate buried deep within... because he sees all the evil around him. Honestly, I think we could see Trevor fight alot of his inner demons in V. If not, then I expect he will dance with them instead. But he has GOT to be at least somewhat sympathetic. Hell, we sympathised with James Earl Cash, and he was a killer on death row.

I hope hes into really fat girls and he pounds brews during every cutscene. I want to see him burn some dumb broad with a cigarette too. And just to add a little humor i hope he calls Franklin 'Boy'.

On Michael's age:

He's said to be in his early 40's, so I would say he's at the most 44 years old. That's younger than Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, George Clooney; yet nobody ever bitches that they're too old for action roles. Hell, Matt Damon is in his early 40's as well. Someone mentioned Liam Neeson earlier in this thread, who is 60, and much older than Michael. The main difference between Michael and them is that Michael isn't a movie star, he's a videogame character. Gamers are so insanely use to playing the 20 something action hero that playing as someone a little older makes them think they'll be unable to do stuff a more athletic character could do, when that's really not the case.

Put it this way: Would you rather be Brad Pitt in Killing them Softly, or Liam Hemsworth in The Expendables?

To me, Vercetti craved the power more than he did the money. I don't know, that's what I got from his character anyway.

Actually, people don't want to play Franklin because of his race. Fact: most GTA players are f*cking racist twats.

Edit: Don't forget, Tommy was a sh*tty character. Plain, generic gangster with no personality. Don't get me started on Claude.

CJ on the other hand was the only fully fleshed out GTA character. He started off as your stereotypical gangbanger who comes back home, but over the course of the game realizes that getting out of Ganton was more important than salvaging what was left of the neighbourhood. This is evidenced during "Home Coming" when CJ goes to pick up Sweet, and Sweet responds "What the f*ck is this bullsh*t?"

This is Rockstar we are talking about. Every protagonist that Dan Houser(& crew) has created or written this gen, has been multi faceted. Even if you didn't connect with the character, you can't deny that they were well written. Just like Franklin, who most people seem to think is just another gangbanger, there will be much more to Trevor (and Franklin) than meets the eye.

True. He didn't seem to enjoy anything but the power. Very Vague. What's power without ambition. I just hope Trevor has something he wants other than chaos. Even the Joker had goals.

@ Coral_City: You can't lump eveyone who doesn't like him into that category. That's why I didn't state that, even though I know some do for that reason.

I believe Trevor has been described as sentimental and loyal. He's certainly going to be loyal to Michael and Franklin, I think there will be a good sense of camaraderie between the three characters behind all the bickering. He's an unhinged loose cannon, but I think he will legitimately care about certain things and that will make him sympathetic. More importantly, it will be his relationship with the other two characters that will make him sympathetic. He probably trusts Michael quite a bit even if he says he doesn't, which could be a very sympathetic moment for Trevor if Michael ends up betraying him or it turns out that he's already betrayed him, which is related to his being in the witness protection program. This actually applies to every character, if you think about it. They're not the greatest main characters on their own, but as a group they're great, because of how they contrast and affect each other.

To this end, Trevor's character makes a lot of sense, because he contrasts Michael. The dynamic would be somewhat odd if it were just Michael and Franklin. The thing is, R* have confirmed that they came up with Trevor last. But that doesn't mean he was a last minute addition. He could be last by a couple days of discussion. Certainly it was before they wrote the script. And R* seemed to want each character to have a sort of meta symbolism with GTA as a whole. Michael represents a typical GTA protagonist who's won, Franklin represents a typical GTA protagonist at their usual point, looking to make a name for himself. And Trevor represents the player who acts upon his own wishes. But we can see that this isn't all they are, it simply gives us clues to their dynamic. I think his lack of desire to change is an important aspect of this, as it contrasts Michael's hypocrisy and Franklin's ambition.

And certainly we know he's no Joker. I think an important part of the storyline will be enforcing his drug "enterprise" in his area from marauders and bikers, a conflict that gets more complicated as the FIB gets him involved with Michael and he starts doing the heists. So he has goals. And he cares about the other two, and we see that he doesn't trust Franklin at first which is certainly a call for character development.

Joker just did it for the lolz. Honestly though, I don't see Trevor as I do The Joker. I think Trevor's ultimate goal is running his drug/gun enterprise. Maybe there is problems with money, so he starts doing heists with Michael and Franklin. Who knows. He has to have some sort of drive in order for his story to be enjoyable. R* knows this I'm sure. icon14.gif

Very helpful. I can rest easy now. I guess I didn't look into the characters enough, but you two have restored my faith.

p.s. The Joker did it for the lolz, but he also wanted to prove that everyone could be broken.

That's true about the Joker. He just wanted everyone to be equal... like him.

But yeah, there's got be some kind of depth to Trevor. I mean, when I look at this picture, I see a broken man. I don't know... his facial expression has alot of pain. Maybe he didn't want to kill the guy on the ground?
