GTA_stu
The 90's was a time when if you wanted to see a pair of boobs you had to wait until your parents were asleep and then cruise through the TV channels, looking for a programme that sounded filthy. It was also a time of peado-fear. These periods come and go, peado-fear ebs and flows over the decades, with spikes here and there. There was a definite spike in the 90's. I didn't even know what a paedophile was, but I knew they were bad. There was rumour one was living down my street, which made me and my friends all excited. Not in a "I can't wait to get touched up and mentally scarred" kind of way, but in a "there's danger in the air and it's exciting!" kind of way. My friend said he saw one, and that he had a moustache and was carrying a briefcase. Turns out it was only an innocent man who lived down our street, but for one week in the summer of 1999 he was making kids run away in all directions when he returned from work. Serves him right for having a moustache. ย Edit: Whoops, thought this was the 90's thread. Ah well it's still relevant.

Johnny Playert
ย @Playert you're sharing some good music, but we were obviously in different kind of cliques during middle school because I hadn't heard that one either lol. Here's another one I remember from the late 90s/early 2000s vault:ย - AAF Smooth Criminal - That one was also mad cool. Well i was a skater back then for a short period of time, not too hardcore, i hung out with almost everyone at my school. I was really into many kinds of music. These songs (Don't Speak, Nothing Else Matters) are truly iconic man, whatever genre you were into. Maybe they got a bit more air-time over here, but i can't imagine you haven't heared them once before. Twang.
Ah nostalgia. Shared memories from people who've never met, yet somehow have so much in common. ย Can't help but notice a surge in 90s nostalgia lately, not sure why. I'd say 92-93 would be the last year you could be born in and still be a '90s kid', and those people are just turning 21 or will be this year, and I guess 21 is just a really nostalgic age? I suppose 21 is the age that we all thought was "fully grown up" for some reason. Gives good reason to look back on your childhood before you 'move on to adulthood' or some symbolic transition like that. ย Not complaining or anything, just observing. I feel nostalgia for things that happened not even 2 years ago. Remembering good times is good for your mind and spirit. What I don't dig is people obsessing over the past and not appreciating the times they live in for what they are (rather than just a shadow of a better time). ย Maybe it's just because after high school, everyone embarks on a different path, and the good times you have after that point can't necessarily be as easily shared with others. But that's what makes them special. Parts of your own personal story, your epic saga, that can only be shared with a handful of your closest friends - the people that truly matter to you. In that sense, one could say I'm only 3 years in to MY life, and everything before that was just prologue, a common background you can use to relate to your peers and form stronger social connections. ย I don't really feel that old, especially when I take all that in to consideration. I see kids doing things today that don't make sense to me and recognize that those are the things they'll be nostalgic about in 10-15 years, and they'll be thinking "gadzooks! We were quite foolish, were we not? I laugh heartily at the thought!" and they'll be no more or less adjusted to their world as you are to yours. When they're joking with their drinking buddies about Twitter and YOLO, I'll be remembering the hard-but-good days of my early 20s with a life-affirming satisfaction. TheGodDamnMaster
ย Being the only one in my school who saw Toy Story 2 in theaters. I know it only came out in 1999 which was only about 14 years ago, but it feels like a century. I saw frigging Lion King in theaters.... Although both films are from the 1940s I remember watching Dumbo and Pinocchio religiously when I was a youngin. I watched Pinnochio and Peter Pan a lot. I remember being afraid of some scene in Pinnochio where the carnival owner yells at the donkeys and his face turned red. I haven't watched the movie in years, probably because of that. LuKeltic
When I'm driving a bus and have to turn into my old school to pick school kids up... I'm only 19 so only left the school 3 years ago but I don't recognise any of the kids faces at all as it's like the next generation, when I was there before I knew who a sh*t load of them were or at least recognised them. Also some of the new teachers I'm looking at thinking who the f*ck is this? lol. ย On the other hand the old teachers often recognise me which has the opposite effect. Since leaving school I hate the feeling of being back there; I wasn't bullied or anything but I just prefer life after school so much now. It's like experiencing freedom after prison and then going back onto the prison grounds again.

Diggdydog
Who ever said earlier that you're only a '90s kid if you were born '92 at the latest is 100% right. I was born in '95, a lot of people at sixthform college with me were born in '96 too. Yet the amount of them I hear referring to themselves as '90s kid is ridiculous. I'd say I'm a ... erm... 2000s kid wow that sounds bad.. and someone like my brother, who was born in '88, is a 90s kid. It just annoys me because who the f*ck can vividly remember their life before the age of 5? It's madness! ย OT: I'm only 17 and I'm not dillusioned enough to think for a second that I'm old. I also don't believe my maturity compared to other peers has anything to do with how old I feel, in terms of how they act anyway. ย Although, there are a couple of things. ย The fact that I'm planning on moving from Sixthform and getting an apprenticeship in web design makes me feel that I'm moving on with real life a whole heap quicker than anyone else. By the time I'm 18, I'm projected to be on about 19,000 a year, while they're all still on the final year of A-levels. I just find it insane that by the time the people I've gone through school with (most of them anyway) are leaving university, I will have been working for about 4 years ย Something else that makes me feel older (again older, not old) is when little kids say something like "Mummy that man is on a bike' etc. rather than 'that boy...' I dunno, I've only noticed it in the last year, but it sure feels weird being called a man rather than a boy. ย One more, I find it really really weird that kids who were born in, or after 2000 are starting the high school I just left. 2000 doesn't even feel like it was that long a go! I guess that applies to the forums too, there's bound to be a whole chunk of people born after 2000 on here. Proper wacky! ย ย -sorry if there's any misspellings or this post looks a bit weird, had to type it on my iPhone.
